Magistrates threaten to strike over judicial pay gap

Magistrates are threatening to go on strike over the pay gap. The Judicial Officers Association of South Africa, an organisation representing over 800 magistrates, says its members want the state to close the pay gap between magistrates and judges.

What stops you as magistrate to become Advocate, you chose this occupation.

Nothing, but don't you think they should make the judiciary attractive to the best and brightest? Isn't it in your own interests to have decisions that make/break people's lives to be made by the most competent person? Don't be so blasé, you will find that you care very much if you ever land in court.

Magistrates have more than 10 years experience and was appointed when this situation of salaries did not exist. This is the result of years of neglect by Gov. While Gov workers got increases of 5-7% a year, Mag got 2-3% and some years no increase.

These people collectively are standing together and doing something about the situation, given what is being said here. We who read your comments don't know you, but we can form our own opinions by the way in which you comment. Which leaves much to be desired.
