You want to see him rock with his Cello watch PTX "Radioactive" (featuring violinist Lindsey Stirling), and you'll see the difference between the instruments musically :) also you can see him show off his celloboxing skills in "Shallow" as well. Great reaction, thanks
I adore KO! He plays the Saxophone also. And I saw him playing the drums in a tic tok the other day. He's super smart. A college grad who had been accepted into med school when he went to join Pentatonix. He speaks several languages. Check out "Shallow" for a great example of his celloboxing.
He speaks 5 languages, one of them fluent in Chinese Mandarin. He's Classically trained from the age of 5 in Piano, Sax and Cello. He preformed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall twice, 1st time with the Sax, 17yrs old and 2nd time on the Cello 18yrs old. He was accepted into Yale at 17 and was finished Pre-Med by the time he joined PTX in 2011, at the age of 21, to compete in NBC's The Sing Off. He is a musical and academic prodigy plus a good God praising Christian to boot. He lives his best life doing what he's most passionate about, MUSIC!! Although he has joked around that his parents are still waiting and hoping he goes back into medicine and finishes becoming a doctor. lol
The stringed instruments are according to size and scale. Just like Soprano, Alto, Contralto/Countertenor, Tenor, Baritone, Bass...Strings are: Violin, Viola (larger than a violin, but still played under the chin), Cello (CH-ello), and Bass. The reason this Cello is thin is because it is electric.
Exactly! Good description! Also, you can add effects to the electric cello, like the distortion-pedal on the electric guitar. That's why they can sound somewhat simular.
The most important difference is range; the size difference is an artifact of how the different pitches are achieved: the violin can be smaller because it has the highest pitch range and thus does not need long strings. The bass is the largest of the four because it needs longer strings to hit those low notes, for much the same reason that a pipe organ's largest pipes are for the lowest notes. The cello is in many was the nicest of the stringed instruments, because it has a range very similar to the human vocal range. In principle there is also such a thing as a stringed instrument pitched even lower than bass (sometimes called a "quadruple bass viol" or an "octobasse"), but it's rare, and rather impractical because it's huge (you have to stand on a ladder to play it, unless there's a hole in the floor for it to be recessed in). Likewise, you can make one smaller than a violin, but it's going to be pretty high-pitched, just as a piccolo is higher than a flute.
The violin not only produces much higher notes, but also has different pitched strings. i.e. A violin has the (from highest to lowest) E, A, D, & G strings. The viola (my instrument) is still played on the shoulder, but I have the A, D, G, & C strings. The cello has the same strings as the viola (A, D, G, & C), but it's exactly an octave lower in pitch (sound frequency), and typically held between the knees in a seated position. The stand-up bass (aka the double bass) is played while standing or supported by a stool. I believe they have the E-A-D-G-string combo like the violins, but 5 or 6 octaves lower in pitch. Octave is pronounced like olive and is the 8-note distance between whatever your core or starting pitch is. I hope all of that makes sense. I need more coffee. ☕ Nothin but 💙 & respect from Texas!
The cello he is playing is an electric one. He named it Mr. Carter......his traditional cello is what we usually see him play, her name is Beyonce. Videos where he is playing with PTX you would like are Say Something, Radioactive, & Thank You (Scott also plays piano).
One of my favorite things about PTX: they let each other grow, express themselves independently and flourish - and then they come back together and make beautiful music for us!!
Kevin is one of the most humble, talented, and intelligent performers out there. Violin is smaller, under the chin, and has a much higher range. He can play the cello standing up or the traditional way, sitting down with it between his knees. Pronounced Chello. It's in Italian word. Cello - the C has a CH sound. Like Ciao which is pronounced "chow". This is a greeting in Italian.
If you want 'ch ello' and beat boxing (aka 'celloboxing') I would love you too react to Kevin's own composition 'Renegade'. It is hauntingly beautiful. Loved this reaction and so glad you're checking out some of KO's solo stuff. He does a pretty sick cover of Sign of the Times - Harry Styles. Keep em coming please, I love your energy and insight :)
Thanks for your reaction to this one! As you know from some of the other comments Kevin has played saxophone and cello at Carnegie Hall back in his teenage years. He coined the word "Celloboxing" years ago and became a member of Pentatonix when they googled beatboxing and found him celloboxing. I have heard that Webster dictionary will include 'celloboxing' in their next edition. He calls his regular cello "Beyonce" but I don't remember the name of this cello. He is playing his electric cello here like I have never seen played this way. You would enjoy Pentatonix cover of "Radioactive" with Lindsey Sterling.
I just Subscribed. I've watched most of your Pentatonix vids and I love the way you give Kevin and Kirsty their respect.. most focus on Mitch or Scott.. and previous Avi. People don't realize how much Kevin and Kirsty do to make Pentatonix what it is.
The difference between a cello and a violin is that cello is more like a bass instrument and has a darker sound Than a violin which has of a fairytale and enchanting sound and vibe to it
in a nutshell, violin has higher tones while cello (che-lo) goes deeper, someone who is more musically versed can explain it in more detail. if you want to see more of rocking with cello check out 2Cellos and Apocalyptica
You need to check out the covers "Say Something" and "Radioactive" to see Kevin beatbox and Play The Cello at the same time. In this video as you can tell, he does do the beatboxing and he will play the cello...but not exactly at the same time. Yep, he invented cello- boxing (beat boxing).
You just made me a fan!!I just subscribed...thank you so much for your great reaction to Kevin "K.O."!!😄👍 cello and violin are both string instruments, the cello (pronounced with a " ch" sound) is obviously larger and plays lower notes primarily... The violin is much smaller and plays mostly higher notes.😄✌
Thank you for that explanation. I knew there was a range thing with it (that obviously they got higher the smaller they were), but didn't know the strings themselves were different notes between the instruments. Very cool that you play viola, I feel like I don't hear many people playing it (they either go with violin or cello from the people I know) these days.
Violin much higher keyed instrument, with different pitched strings, Cello (Jello starting with CH instead of J) is several octaves lower than the violin. KO is insanely talent. Now I know where all my talent went LOL. loved it Bro!!(added; try 2cellos "Thunderstruck")
cello (chelloh think Jell-O but with ch lol ) is deeper and a BIT richer, violin is higher and more umm, transportive? Some notes you just can't reach on one or the other w/o tuning and/or tools (like a capo)
You want to see him rock with his Cello watch PTX "Radioactive" (featuring violinist Lindsey Stirling), and you'll see the difference between the instruments musically :) also you can see him show off his celloboxing skills in "Shallow" as well. Great reaction, thanks
Don't you love the way he smiles at the end. He's like was that good? Hell Yeah it was 🔥
When you said " This is Epic " I was like you ain't heard nothing yet. 🤪

Drums in tik tok was Matt

Also cello has no frets. Those lines you see on neck of guitar etc.

They all do their side gigs. but ALWAYS come back together.

Kevin is 🔥
I think this is the first one lots of people see, but I think his KOver of "Sign of the Times" is even better.
This was other worldly!!! Does anyone else see people excelling with their talent and low key wish they could do it too? 🤦🏾
No low-key about it! High-key wish I could do it too! 😂
Kevin + looper = Out of the World!
He is blessed in talent, intelligence, and personality. So happy you heard this.
Pentatonix Shallow
Yeah baby! "The human 808" K O✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻 great reaction👏🏻👏🏻
You: why is it sounds like a guitar?
Me: that's the idea but with the cello.😉
One man band!!! This dude is too 🔥 💯.. killed it
Kevin, is a genius, when it comes to musical talent!
Wish I could and more than one thumbs up on this one.

Kevin's a whole orchestra, he's Awesome!
Kevin is so very talented and this just gives you a sneak peak. I loved it!

Fire, fire, fire! Straight fire from start to stop!
Was hoping you'd do this one! Love his smile at the end, he knows he killed it!
Kevin is awesome, no other words for it....
This had been the reaction I've been waiting for! So glad a patreon requested it. Thank you for doing this. Kevin deserves some shine time.
Also Kevin is classically trained on the cello. And play's many other instruments not including his voice 🤭. He is probably a musical genius
So glad you gave this a listen. He has serious skills!!!
This is such fun, you can see/hear Kevin literally mix himself!
So glad you did this! Loved your reaction. Knew you’d be amazed 🤩
This is why with Kevin and Avi's Talent, they worked so well together and they will forever be meat and potatoes!!!!
CHEL - oh. It's electric, which means he can put filters on it...such as an electric guitar filter.
Loved it I'm so excited you did this
I also recommend checking his Renegade album it's incredible!
The difference between a cello and a violin is that cello is more like a bass instrument and has a darker sound Than a violin which has of a fairytale and enchanting sound and vibe to it
Squeeee!! You’re doing it!!
Exactly how I felt!
in a nutshell, violin has higher tones while cello (che-lo) goes deeper, someone who is more musically versed can explain it in more detail. if you want to see more of rocking with cello check out 2Cellos and Apocalyptica
I told you

Suggest you react to KO's most recent release, Renegade.
I looooove this!! And yes, he made that cello (cell-o) sound like a MF electric guitar!! Gotta check out his cover of Sogn of the Times!! ☮️
You just made me a fan!!I just subscribed...thank you so much for your great reaction to Kevin "K.O."!!😄👍 cello and violin are both string instruments, the cello (pronounced with a " ch" sound) is obviously larger and plays lower notes primarily... We all KNEW you would love this!! 😅 🤗😍
Kevin covers "the sign of the times" and it is seriously 🔥
So talented❤❤❤
Kevin is fire 🔥 in this video.
Also, love your McLovin' T-shirt! 🤣
Crazy ..I loved it ❤️
This was great! I was looking forward to your reaction. Please also react to KO’s Sign of the Times.
Avi was classically trained and Kevin was trained as well.
I could be wrong but I believe that’s an electric cello, which is why it sounded and looked like that.
It's a ch sound in cello and it's more bass than a violin. And that's a semi-electric cello that's why it sounds like an electric guitar
I'd reccomend you "La ragazza con il cuore di latta" by Irama. It will break your heart in too many pieces but it's worth it
Violin much higher keyed instrument, with different pitched strings, Cello (Jello starting with CH instead of J) is several octaves lower than the violin. KO is insanely talent. Now I know where all my talent went LOL. loved it Bro!!(added; try 2cellos "Thunderstruck")
You don't need to worry about if it is cello or chello, just call her by her name...Beyonce
Carrie Underwood Temporary home and Chris Stapleton Tennessee Whiskey
cello (chelloh think Jell-O but with ch lol ) is deeper and a BIT richer, violin is higher and more umm, transportive? Some notes you just can't reach on one or the other w/o tuning and/or tools (like a capo)
#KevinIsABeast
Chello 😏
Hello love your reaction videos, can you also do a reaction with kai solo "Mmmh" if you still haven't.
Thank you❤
