Turbo vs. Base - Porsche 958 Cayenne

- As my 911 has just been put to bed for the winter, it's time to get out and have some fun in the Cayenne. In this video we look at how the Base version of the Porsche 958 Cayenne stacks up against the Turbo. We have my black 2011 Cayenne Base (958.1) alongside my friend's white 2016 Cayenne Turbo (958.2).
A huge thank you to Chris for the use of his Turbo and also for being a good sport, making his debut appearance in one my videos here which I hope won't be his last!

The base is exponentially more reliable and a fraction the maintenance cost.

That's actually a good thing, it means the ZF is really as quick as they say (even though it could never be as quick as a PDK).
Moreover a ZF is definitely a better choice than a PDK when it comes to towing and offroad, that's why it's a standard equipment on Cayennes.

It's an Aisin transmission
In terms of looks I much rather prefer pre-facelift models, esp. the GTS. They just look so much more like classic Porsches with the triangular bonnet and those flat headlamps. The only thin I prefer about 958.2 are the rear light.

Like the video buddy. I have a remapped, upgraded exhaust & plenum 957 turbo and it is stunning. Always have a smile like yours when mash the right foot lol

Great vid. I owned 957 base, and drive 958 turbo. It’s a huge difference and absolutely different cars. Also, winter tires significantly slow the acceleration.. you should try turbo in summer 🙂✊🏼

I’m a sucker for red interiors. I very recently traded my Accord for a Lexus GS F Sport with the red interior. Had the red interior in my e46 M3. Do want a red interior in my future 997, but not complete red, just seats and door cards similar to that Cayenne Turbo. Anyways, looking forward to the next video, especially since I wasn’t expecting anything until next years driving season. In the meanwhile, Merry Christmas!!

2016 958.2 turbo with a $400 completely tame burger jb4 tune and it's a sub 4 second 0-60. These are massively overbuilt and underrated. with a softronics tune they are screamers. More reliable than a chevy truck, even with air suspension and twin turbos
How does the air suspension compare to the base model in the different settings?
My dream car. I almost bought a used one, but 100k mikes scared me away.

Deciding this right now. Bases in my area as low as 15k. Turbo? 28. S is still also around the 25 mark
I wouldn’t get a base again, but then at 15k it would be hard to say no to!
@@AutoAmateur headed to look in 2 days. Looking at s's in the 20 range, and a couple turbos right under 30. Not sure which way to go. Gts not really around.

No PDK in the turbo, same 8 speed tiptronic as the base.

Surely of the 60+ comments someone has commented > you wont be disappointed when the Turbo requires addtl shop attention > certainly a premium paid on a few levels for the turbo...as it should be, of course.
2011 S Cayenne V8 here & it's plenty for me > no pricey air suspension to go out either > some say the S is the sweet spot & I have to be in agreement... especially w/the V8.
Disclosure > if I win the lottery you'll surely find me behind a turbo 😜 > until then the V8 will do me just fine tyvm.
I actually now how the 958 S. It’s great!! Still nothing close to the Turbo for speed and sheer thrills though.
Hate the auto start / stop...My BMW X3 35M Sport fortunately has the button to disengage this stupid feature. Nice Ride on the Turbo.
Yeah my base Cayenne has the option but I don’t have to turn it off every time I start the car. I wonder why they didn’t keep that feature in the 2016+ models?

Hahahaha. That’s really funny Jonathan. It was sooooo dull driving my base model home after driving the Turbo. I actually did go home and take the 911 out for a quick spin though. I definitely felt better about life after that. Haha. 😆
