100%, but, when you hop into the car for the first time you feel absolutely hopelessly lost. You feel like a boomer using a computer. It's bad, but not a knock because as an owner you'll get used to it.
I remember in the early 80s when my high school friend's dad got a second gen Prelude, which my friend drove as much as the dad did. That row of buttons along the dash was so nice and actuated vents with just a press. It was a whole different world of luxury to me after years of big, ugly knobs that were stiff to turn, and felt gravely and imprecise. I ended up with my own later gen Acuras and Preludes, and my current F30 3 series still has the same basic, simple push button layout. I don't want screens, or at least more than I have already. If I needed to replace the BMW, I'd probably do like Todd and just try to get a new, better version of what I have, and mainly just for the buttons and lack of screens in general.

Agreed, informs people on how to make good choices based on what is truly needed and wants. Very nice choice for family vehicle, that you can still have fun in.
add to that the style of music they chose and generally choose for different intros/outros and different transitions. It's really refreshing feeling connected with the guys more than just consuming content like so many other youtube channels which are awesome don't get me wrong. Hi, from Japan!! I always think you are a good husband and a good dad. You really put importance on how your wife feel for new family car. You really think things for her. Not only this time, you mention about your family in your films occasionally. I always can feel how much you love your family. I really love Everyday Driver because you and Paul are nice person. I think many other viewers feel so, too.
I like that you mentioned "knowing it's history". That's why I kept my 2000 Subaru Legacy Wagon until last year. I was the original owner, so I knew every detail of it's history. Even though I had to have the engine rebuilt for thousands of dollars one time, which cost a lot more than the car was even worth after it was fixed, it still felt better spent than trying to get an unknown used car for around the same cost.
As someone still daily driving their 2002 Outback, I'm with you on this. I can't replace the 17 year history I have with the car, and I know my own maintenance was fastidious.
Did the same thing... upgraded from a 1st gen Cayenne S to a 958 GTS. Loved it so much, ended up adding a 958 Diesel for the wife. Incredible machines... timeless... performance 2nd to none... utility - long road trips w 3 kids in the back, dog in trunk, and thule topper on top. Great choice, best of luck!
I also upgraded from a 955 Cayenne S that we owned for 10 years and went to a 958 Cayenne S. Went from 16 mpg avg in the 955 to now we see 22-24 mpg with the new DFI engine in the 958. I also could not see myself in anything else other than a Porsche. In the SUV world, I love how they handle and feel rock solid. Great choice and congrats!
My wife and currently own a 2012 Cayenne S hybrid premium package plus. We bought it at 120k miles for 20k it only had two owners and one was my father in law. We knew the history of the SUV so we felt comfortable purchasing with that mileage and it has been the best and one of the most reliable cars we have owned. It still had the Porsche CPO warranty for another year when we bought it. And we have put about 100k miles in the three years we have owned. We’ve really only had two surprise repairs so far a thermostat and vacuum lines and the check valve on the vacuum pump. The oil changes are so easy on these cars I do them myself but we have changed certain parts preemptively as to avoid surprise fixes down the road all in all in three it’s cost about 13k to maintain and fix, the most expensive being when we had to deal with the vacuum issues coming in at around 4500$ but got a entire new vacuum system and then fixed a lot of other things like coolent hoses that showed signs of age had slight cracking. And we had a button for window control break so we bought a new door console for it. We have coil overs instead of airbags so never worried there. All in all nothing else drives like it. Thought about trying Mercedes or Maserati but the Cayenne is just over all amazing drive. And not to much gone wrong at high mileage and still get 28mpg combined or 32-36mpg on highway depending on if it’s mountains or open road
I recently bought the exact same car myself, only in Carrera White exterior. Absolutely love it. Looks great, drives great, and playing with the different electric modes is fun in itself.
Kudos to you! I own a 14 GTS and absolutely love it! It has the same air suspension and ( Knock on wood ) I’ve never had any issues with it. The only thing to watch out for are plastic bits to break ( Air vent controls, window switches and lock and unlock switches ) which are all priced pretty reasonably online and easy to replace.

My wife drove a 958 Cayenne for nearly 10 years. She loved it. Too bad you didn’t go for the diesel like we had, but TBH, the E Hybrid is great and you do get the updated PCM. We replaced her Cayenne with….another Cayenne. Lol. ‘23 E Hybrid. Loving it so far. Like you, we haven’t gotten rid of our old one. The ONLY reason I am considering getting rid of it is because if we do keep it, my son will be driving it. And that’s just not right for a 16 year old with a fresh license. Lol. Enjoy yours! The 958 is fantastic to drive!

Great review per usual. Would like to hear how the the new Cayenne holds up as miles and time go on.. would also like to hear maintenance/repair and costs of each.
Your original Cayenne series inspired me to purchase my 2012 Cayenne S 2 years ago. We've had her for 2 years and 30k km, and it's been a dream to drive with no big issues. We were lucky to buy an example that had the transfer case replaced direct from Porsche at the beginning of our ownership, but I'm curious to see your experience with that. I hear the hybrid/diesel doesn't have the transfer case issues that the normal models do. They really are great cars with engineering magic to make it drive like it does.
"I am the guy with two black Porsche Cayennes." Come on... If it's so great, then relax and enjoy it! I wouldn't mind at all if I was the guy with two blue Honda Accord Wagons. And the best part: BUTTONS! I love buttons! Screens are cute, but complicated, distracting, and unpractical. Buttons are simple and they just do the job - which is what you want when you're driving. Thanks for another excellent video!
9:08 the brakes don't offer any regen, it's the electric motor producing drag. It would be accurate to say that the motor is braking, but not that the brakes are regening.
Can't go wrong with a Porsche, but it's hard to go back to anything else. I have the aluminum wheel also, looks so nice. I have 25k on my Macan and im talking to my dealership now on getting a new one. Thing is, they're so freaking expensive, but like they say, There's no substitute!..Congratulations!!!
I would first like to thank you and your team for providing some of the most unbiased and knowledge-fulfilling information to the viewer as there can be! I like listening to the insight, bright and colorful humor, and deep librarian-ist conversations. Can I ask for you and your co-host to bring a discussion of how you see the change over to electric-powered vehicles will change the landscape of the "family trip"? I have watched many of your channel's videos on cross-country treks, and that is something I do with my family on an annual basis. And it brings an uneasy feeling that as we transition to electric vehicles, the idea of being able to travel to remote locations and thru all climates... will become the next dinosaur of the past. With shorter ranges, less available grid networks, and frankly- not being able to safely get away from the beaten path to venture into the unknown, without fear of the vehicle dying and leaving us stranded. Or, using our precious battery life to keep warm in the middle of night, while we sleep under the stars, will be a balance of frostbite or driving home. You can imaging the many scenarios that this dilemma can raise an eye brow. Thanks again - enjoy the journeys and I look forward to the new adventures on the way! Cheers
Congratulations!!! You have been hinting for months that your MOF wanted a new staff car. We have all been waiting on the edge of our seats, wondering what you would get. Great and very “Brave” choice. From basic stripped model to loaded one. I’m nervous, but I look forward to your experiences. Please ask your wife to make a video talking to my MOF so I can get one to! Cheers!
I think thats a good find. I found a 2008 FX45 about 2 years ago. It is the best performing car/truck that I have owned. I have all modern safety systems...lane keep ast and adaptive cruise. There are great cars out there...my car sold for 60K new...got mine for 9 100K miles on it with dealer service records...I'm happy. Hope you and your family enjoy your new wheels.
There are some advantages to owning cars from the same brand. I own 3 cars from a single brand and have owned plenty of them previously. I've always been treated well at every dealership for this brand, built good relationships with parts people, and have been very pleased with how these cars drive and handle family and racecar duties. Sometimes, you just shouldn't change what you enjoy and is working well to begin with.
Love the new purchase. I was thinking of getting one, but my MOF has to have the new tech and a place for her phone. We got a brand new 2023 Macan S but I love the idea of a few year old E-Hyrbrid Cayenne. Hopefully the car will give you as many fun times and great trips as the old Cayenne.
Great choice. The tech is very up to date. And it rides really well. The market has really come down on used Cayenne's. I wish it was true on 992 911's!
Always better two black Cayennes than one:)) Last week I bought exactly the same as your first Cayenne and of course, for my wife! Your videos helped me a lot! Thanks and take care!
Damn, your old Cayenne and my 1989 928 S4 get about the same MPG and I beat that thing mercilessly. Good to hear that that newer generation seems to be holding up alright. Just be sure to use that corporate parts sharing to your advantage and source as much as you can from VW/Audi instead of Porsche when you need to fix it. You'll save a bunch of money!
I’ve been looking forward to this Cayenne “installment”. You gave me the confidence to buy a 2020 base last weekend! Got rid of a wrangler I’d owned for 10 years and 100k. Moving from jeep to Porsche is like moving from Piper cub to F-18. I’d prefer fewer bells and whistles, but they are fun to have as long as they are working well. Specifically chose a base over platinum to avoid a few more potential issues and to have 19” wheels. Having minimal sidewall on a truck that may see some rougher roads just makes zero sense. At least you have a spare! Audi removes them leaving the owner with the need for cell phone, Towing membership and prayer. Well done review. Thank you.
Great buy Todd I went a similar route of sorts I went from a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 Double Cab 2-wheel drive LT with most of the high-tech and luxury features that were big in 2015 to a 2018 Grand Cherokee Summit with all of the high-tech and luxury features and better fuel mileage
Great video, Todd. I've had a 2009 Cayenne S for about four years and honestly can't find anything I like better. Hate all the screens in new cars and won't buy new. I may end up going down this exact path!🙂
9:00 Technical note: When lifting off the throttle, the brakes aren't offering regen. The brakes are doing nothing. The electric motor is acting as a generator and providing drag to the drivetrain.
Watching your video: get the Rennline Magnetic mount. Mounts the phone up next to the PCM, looks great. You can get a magnetic wireless charger for it if yo7 have a compatible phone. Also, check out the storage hidden on the front of the seats! Consider selling those wheels and getting the 20’s. The tires are much more reasonable and blowout proof.
Curious if you ever buy an extended warranty for your Porsches? Bought one for our Macan and a size able chunk of the cost was made up with the first repair.
A terrific choice for the family. There really aren't many alternatives once you've owned a Cayenne. Maybe you can try a Land Cruiser next time around?
I did the same car sin as well - I went from a 2010 370z sport to a 2017 370z Nismo. In the end - it was one of the best 'all around sports cars' to me and provided enough differences in the cosmetic as well as having the recaros to make it worth it. But yeah, I do recommend the same thing - never go with the same car as you had before bc you'll regret it.
I had a 957 Cayenne Turbo for a few years there. Still miss it, it was a great car in every aspect as long as you could avoid thinking about the fuel effiency.
Late last year I picked up my 2023 Audi Q5 55 TFSI e and love it. At least 5 days a week I drive in EV only mode. Agree PHEV isn't for everyone, but the higher MPG is nice.
I'm excited you have a new family car that Kate loves. However, I hope the coming months and years don't sour your love and enjoyment of it. I had 4 of these Hybrid Cayennes in my fleet as a Fleet Manager at my last job, and all 4 of them were basket cases. Each one of them had fewer miles than the one you purchased, and each one their hybrid systems failed multiple times, bricking the vehicle. Each one also consumed oil like it was candy. For the fleet I managed, they were not great. Hopefull, your experience is vastly better than mine.
Really enjoyed the video update - hilarious but I am not surprised it's a newer cayenne. Two choices: keep the old cayenne as the winter car and for your son down the road. That actually may make the most financial sense ... or sell it and get a Jeep Wrangler for your winter car / son's first car and your wife would be happy with that too.
Got the wife the same 17 Cayenne S Ehybrid. It’s pretty good at most everything. Wife can get to work and halfway home before the ice turns on. Excellent on road trips. Good choice
The Cayennes continue to be a good deal if you can afford the fuel to run them and do the mechanical work yourself. I had a black and tan Cayenne TT and loved it. Reliability wasn’t bad and I averaged 15mpg. Her name was Miss Piggy.
Very good choice, that thing is very solid and reliable. Also love the design of this generation, it's much much better then the 1.gen. Youll be happy with this for a long time! Cayenne are like a Swiss army knife. You can do basically anything you want. Pretty hard offloading (with the right tires), daily communiting, driving very sporty at the push of a button. For me if there is only one car to have, it would be a Cayenne.
Hey man, is 2023, its ok to be the guy with two black Cayennes now. I bought probably the cheapest Gen 2 Cayenne Turbo in the country right before Covid. Its been amazing and really reliable. Crazy high miles on it with the Air and Hydraulic suspension. I can't think of anything else would rather drive. Gets about 20mpg combined too. Its bliss.
@@oraclemiata845 Well, with 199k miles I'm sure I'll see something. So far the only catastrophe was a spring clamp coming off the power steering/Sway bar cooler line. That was a bear to put a new hose clamp on.
Well done good sir. I really knew this would happen. For how good the old one was and something that fits your needs and price point, I kinda saw this coming a mile away. Again, good choice and enjoy. 🎉🙌🏼🙌🏼.
Congrats!! Hinted at my wife getting a Cayenne before I got her looking at Boxsters after a PCA weekend. We’ll see where that goes. Probably nowhere fast.
I came to the comments to say the same thing. I have a 2011 Turbo and it has those hidden compartments in the front of both seats. I've seen people in the user groups that have owned one for years and never knew about them. Very well hidden.
That first Cayenne review was my intro to the channel all those years ago. So glad you kept it. it has been reasuring to see it come up every few years on the channel. I agree, just keep it and run it as a beater. Be great to see you get another 10-20k miles from it. I also agree it has the worse steering wheel ever.
Both were driven and considered. The GLS was deemed too big, and the GLE too expensive in the preferred year and spec (wanting one with the MBUX system etc). Thanks for watching!
Congrats! I wish you and your wife lots of trouble free miles! It will be interesting to see if getting and owning a hybrid (be it a Prosche hybrid) is a good idea or not. I am always scared of the complexity and the possible service costs of a hybrid car.
This would be the car to replace my 2015 Cayenne Diesel should it get totaled out. Open road mpg on our diesel going through Wyoming at 85 mph yielded 31mpg for our 3k trip. Very comfortable touring car. I’ve since turned it into an overlander with off road tires and a 2” lift. So nice to go places where my buddies with Wranglers go! We have a Boxster and a Macan with the same center console button layout and also really like having buttons; nice going between cars and having the same instrumentation layout. Great video.
Sounds like it’s time to have fun with the old cayenne- treat it to the safari style upgrades. Minor lift, wrap it, big ol roof rack with gear for winter trips
cool car. it's kind of a unicorn in this spec with the air suspension. This generation of Porsche air suspension is pretty reliable (compared at least to other manufacturers). When it comes time to replace tires, you can go 285/40/21 for about 10% more sidewall.
@everydaydriver Todd, great helpful review on used Cayennes! I like all your details, prices and comparisons to each of the cayennes. Coincidentally three years ago from yours and Paul's recommendation that you liked Volvos I bought a 2010 Volvo xc60 v6 engine white with tan interior 160k miles for $10k for my wife and she loved driving it. Then my 18 year old daughter needed a car so she now drives that 2010 volvo and loves driving it. Then in October 2022 I found a 2017 Volvo xc90 white with tan interior with 77k miles for $25k. It has all the new tech, dynamic ride like the Porsche but not a hybrid but still gets 25mpg since it's a 4cyl, turbo, with a supercharger. My wife loves driving this newer model. Plus the 2017 xc90 has 3 rows of seats and much more space than the 2010 xc60. It seems that I did the same thing as you except my cars are the light side and yours are the dark side. In my Yoda voice...Consider this you must my young padawan? hmmm? 😅 let'sdrag race your 2017 Cayenne VS my 2017 Volvo xc90. 😉 Seriously though you might want to have your son drive the 2010 Cayenne when he turns 16. Safe and yet it's a Porsche.
Maybe I’m just on a retro-future kick, but lots of buttons looks luxurious to me. It’s clean, shows you have a lot of functions, and just looks sick.

Wow you guys still have this thing! Haven’t watched the channel for a little while so I’m very surprised to see it!
I purchased the 2018 Hybrid and love it. Running 275X45 Good Year Eagles LS2 on 20" wheels, very happy with it.
She likes what she likes! The hybrid aspect really makes the Cayenne a much saner everyday proposition.
There are great cars out there...my car sold for 60K new...got mine for 9
100K miles on it with dealer service records...I'm happy.
Very glad the Cayenne videos were helpful to you. Thank you for watching!
Good for you guys. I'm not even a Cayenne fan, but I like that one.
Thank you.
Congratulations on the new E-Hybrid Cayenne! And thanks for another great video! Cheers from Charlotte, NC
It's going to be ok Todd...Nice choice! And always good to keep the wife happy (she has good taste as well)!
I may end up going down this exact path!🙂
checking now to see if you have an update for us!
New Cayenne video coming in a week!
@@EverydayDriver great stuff!
The whole time you were describing what you wanted while saying the old Cayenne was great, I was saying get a higher spec, newer Cayenne. Congrats!!!
I’m on my second Cayenne Diesel. Fantastic vehicles that do everything.
Curious if you ever buy an extended warranty for your Porsches? Bought one for our Macan and a size able chunk of the cost was made up with the first repair.
I’m considering getting one, which warranty did you get and recommend?
I've a '13 Cayenne diesel; we get over 30MPG @ 80 on the highway; best "road car" I've had; getting it 5 years ago for "half-price" was awesome too
A terrific choice for the family. There really aren't many alternatives once you've owned a Cayenne. Maybe you can try a Land Cruiser next time around?
Winter tires on the new 21" wheels for next year. Than perhaps new 20" wheels with a good 275 all-season for the base tire?
I did the same car sin as well - I went from a 2010 370z sport to a 2017 370z Nismo. In the end - it was one of the best 'all around sports cars' to me and provided enough differences in the cosmetic as well as having the recaros to make it worth it. But yeah, I do recommend the same thing - never go with the same car as you had before bc you'll regret it.
This is the video I have been waiting for, so happy your wife got to have an upgrade :)!
You used the phrase "Keep the old Cayenne for a Winter beater." You're in deep, man. :D
Thanks for sharing all that wisdom and helpful information.
This was my favourite review from this channel so far. Honest.
I’d say you’re only option is to get a third black Cayenne.
Some 19 inches steel wheels would be good for these conditions then you can swap for your fancy 21's in the summer
I had a 957 Cayenne Turbo for a few years there. Still miss it, it was a great car in every aspect as long as you could avoid thinking about the fuel effiency.
I knew the second gen Cayenne would be perfect for you guys. But I think you could have gotten the diesel instead. We get 29mpg and handles great
Late last year I picked up my 2023 Audi Q5 55 TFSI e and love it.
Congrats!!! I think it’s an awesome choice and wish you the best of luck with it!!
I have been waiting for this for so long
Congratulations on the new car, great choice and I can relate to the story about tyre prices. Crazy.
I am oddly excited about this video. Can't wait to see what it is!
I found a great 2016 CPO hybrid, but I am getting warned against it due to the batter…any advice?
Very good choice, that thing is very solid and reliable. Also love the design of this generation, it's much much better then the 1.gen. Youll be happy with this for a long time! Cayenne are like a Swiss army knife. You can do basically anything you want. Pretty hard offloading (with the right tires), daily communiting, driving very sporty at the push of a button. For me if there is only one car to have, it would be a Cayenne.
Love our 958 Cayenne. Best generation in my opinion.
Its bliss.
Glad to hear this and glad you enjoy it!
But just wait….
Congratulations! I hope you and your wife are happy with it.
I have a 2016 Cayenne and it has two very small storage areas underneath the front seats. You may have them as well :)
I came to the comments to say the same thing. I have a 2011 Turbo and it has those hidden compartments in the front of both seats. I've seen people in the user groups that have owned one for years and never knew about them. Very well hidden.
keep the old cayenne. you know its history and it has served you well
Advice for thee but not for me... Just kidding Todd. Great video as always. Looking forward to hearing more in the podcast in the coming year.
Todd - what are your thoughts on potential re-sale of the e-hybrid down the line? Love the video
Did you guys ever consider the Mercedes-Benz GLE/ML or GLS/GL as a replacement? If so, why didn’t you go that route.
How much would it cost to wrap the 2010 in a different color, you could try that.
Rims that big on an suv are insane. Also, you should clean that steering wheel with some leather cleaner, it’s looking super shiny 😊
Inexpensive wrap for the old Cayenne? Can I suggest Gulf Blue? Probably makes no sense on a beater, but at least they won't both be the same colour!
Good choice Todd!! A happy wife is a happy life 🙂
Curious to get your opinion on a cayenne vs mdx type s?
I just watched the whole series today at work. Back from lunch,!I’m on RUclips and what do I fine? This. 😂
That's great to hear. Thanks for watching!
cool car. it's kind of a unicorn in this spec with the air suspension.
In my Yoda voice...Consider this you must my young padawan? hmmm? 😅
let'sdrag race your 2017 Cayenne VS my 2017 Volvo xc90. 😉
Seriously though you might want to have your son drive the 2010 Cayenne when he turns 16. Safe and yet it's a Porsche.
Cool to hear this. Thanks for sharing and watching as always!
congrats on the new cayenne! what are your thoughts on the 2016 diesel cayenne?
