I have a 2009 GTS - it's a 957, instead of a 955, and it has the big 4.8L naturally aspirated V8. Got it a few years ago, and paid $17k when it had 83k miles - and I love it (it's my daily driver). Some of the issues shown still apply (Cardan shaft bearing, front seat backs, worn bushings and boots) - but others are not an issue : water pipes are not plastic (although I believe there is a plastic barb that is glued in on the front, and the glue can wear out), bore scoring is not an issue (different manufacture process). You did not mention replacing the "dog bone" engine torque damper - the rubber in that gets old and worn (easy fix), nor looking for water under the front mats (the drain for A/C condensation can get plugged, causing water to accumulate in the cabin under the front mats - which is an issue, because the wiring harness there can be compromised). Wrenching yourself is the way to go to save $$$ - I've replaced thermostat, water pump, serpentine belt, CV axle, plugs and coils, hood shock, fixed seat backs, and fixed sagging head liner. Note that you will break things while fixing other things (can be intentional - but usually not) - I cracked the line from the Air/Oil Separator (AOS) to the intake manifold when I tried to disconnect it because it was so brittle, and had to replace it with a new one (although a quick fix with metallic tape worked for a couple weeks while I waited for the part). The GTS may also be a bit easier to work on - no auxiliary air pumps at the back of the engine. I also had to get a set of wheels for snow tires, as I could not source snow tires for the 21" wheels, and ended up getting a set of 19" wheels for snow tires. Without doing anything else, I have taken it both to the track and out on logging roads in Colorado and Montana (even in the winter), and not had any issues. Only complaint is gas usage - if I throw it over a cliff, it might get 14 mpg on the way down. Put it in sport mode and floor it, and you can see the needle fall towards empty. I also wish it was the manual transmission (another rare option).
I have a 2014 4.8 GTS which replaced my 2005 S 4.5 which had bore scoring at 225K. Lost cylinder 6, but the 4.8 NA has been Bullet proof. My Diesel is awesome pushing 300K and still super tight. The Diesel S 4.2 is the best of them all but I had to ship it from D gray market.
Very excited to see this video. I have owned a 2006 Cayenne Turbo S for about 1 year now. Its a secondary machine for me so hasn't been a daily driver. I was quite comfortable purchasing it from a close friend, since i knew what work he and the previous owner had done. It feels extremely grounded and has alot of power, even by todays standards. It really is an outlier in the Porsche history books. only 1500 Turbo S produced in 2006, 600-700 which took delivery in the States and Canada. all subjective numbers but i have heard these stats a few times now. Apparently for the final year of the MK1 955, Porsche pulled their Lemans team together to collaborate and engineer the specifics, this might be one of the reasons we were given such a monster for its time. It also happens to be the largest Porsche brake package done factory to date and only seen on the 2006 Turbo S. Its incredible to think the current 2023 Cayenne Turbo, only has 20 more HP totaling 540 HP. This Cayenne Turbo S was the fastest production Porsche from 2006-2010, excluding the Carrera GT. There is something special about the suspension on these, its not as sensitive as other German air ride and failure rates are alot lower vs other mid 2000s German luxury vehicles. Transmission is an Aisin, modified by VW, but also used by Toyota in their Landcruiser and Lexus GX460/LX570. You can probably tell by now that I am quite smitten about this vehicle. I didn't chase this 06 Turbo S but the opportunity came by and I couldn't say no.
I’ve had my cayenne s for 12 years now and it’s been surprising reliable for what it is. Currently sitting at 317k km or 196k miles. Another common thing is the exhaust flex pipes go out on older ones as well as front wheel bearings aren’t uncommon. Also the engine torque arm is a weak point as well as the expansion tank. Mines got steel springs and I haven’t touched any suspension component in the 12 years I had it. They were really overbuilt cars !!

Otherwise the pulleys and belt have never been touched and the a/c components are still original and work fine.

Almost pulled the trigger on one of these three years ago.. Just hard to find one with everything I wanted on it.Instead, I picked up a 2012 Tdi Q7 that I'm starting an Overland build on. The usual, 3" lift, 1" drop, 18's with 275/70's. I have a base cayman 981 with lot's of miles, and I'm starting to see some safari builds on Caymans that are intriguing. Migh be fun!

I dnn't know yet whether or not the plastic pipes have been replaced. It looks good and he has all the service records although I have not looked to see what has been done. Hi guys, great video!!! I am currently looking into a later 2016 958 Turbo, 64k mi. Curious on your thoughts on that model year, looks like no recalls and the plastic coolant piping was corrected. I am a very mechanical and technical guy. Currently have a 914-V8 😊 and have had 928 and other 914 so not new to the Porsche maintenance and requirements. Any advice is appreciated!!!
That’s not been our experience. These are 20 year old Porsches so you will have some expense, but ours has been fairly reliable (except when we broke it offroad).

So not true replacing the is pricy you have Brembo 955 gen but brembo 957 is way bigger and more expencive. I have two cayennes and done many modifications on my 955...so i know difference. 955 brake discs for 331kw is more cheaper than for 957, 368kw model.
Also you can put 18' original rims on 368kw model support, there will be approx 2mm gap between rim and support. I use this rims for winter driving R18 255/55 tires.
Hey I have a question pls I own my self a Porsche cayenne Turbo S 2006 Olive Green metallic Slick top (no sunroof) And 20 inch Sport techno rims It’s my car rare how many of them was build like my one ?
I just purchased a 2003 cayenne S 4.5 last week & I am VERY HAPPY SO FAR!!! But a few Gremlins are starting to show. Fuel consumption for one, but GOES GREAT! But My right hand rear door latch is not locking at the moment, Would be great to get a heads up on cost for latch & procedure on replacement of latch?? Great content SO far guys. 👍
I had one that had a bad door handle, the microswitch inside was broken. I asked my mechanic (not Rob) how much to fix and he quoted me $500 for replacement. If you are fairly handy, I don’t think it’s complicated. I don’t have one to fix now or I would make a video for you.
I've only seen one with the spare tire; driving in traffic' really neat seeing you swing it out and close. Spot-on analysis and review! I've had my 2004 turbo for twelve years, and it only has 72k miles. I've already dealt with the headlight wiring harnesses, and had to replace one headlight because of the wiring in the headlight. My rear hatch struts are weak and I just bought a new pair for a little Spring project. Alcantara headliner is just starting to droop a little. It sits in the garage on a trickle charger Nov-March in Illinois. In my first year of owning this "truck", it was a little expensive - the low pressure fuel pump died, then suddenly realizing the horns didn't work and having to remove the front bumper to replace them.... I hated it before I loved it. I'll probably keep it forever. Someday I want to find out what might be under the front passenger seat. Many cars put the battery on the passenger side, but Cayenne's is under the driver's seat. Seems wrong from a weight balancing standpoint, perhaps the fuel tank is mostly on the pass. side(?) I generally enjoy working on my Mercedes cars more, but the Cayenne is pretty mechanic friendly too.
Hello guys which Cayenne I have to buy 3.2 v6 or 4.5 v8 s ? Or 4.8 v8 or 3.6v6 ? But its more expensive the two last ones I live in France and I want to drive with gpl too for making économie :).. some people says too me 4.5 v8 s or more fragile than v6 ?
My favourite Cayenne is a VW Touareg V10. You can put the engine into a cayenne if you want given they're essentially the same truck...Cayenne has sportier suspension options and better brakes but you'll be replacing those soon after buying it regardless of which route you go. Reason I say the V10 is better is because it's got over 550lb-ft of torque to make up for the fact these trucks are heavy. While only 300HP on the stock tune you it's also happy to make around 450 with a simple remap if you're willing to sacrifice some torque and delete some emissions equipment...Better know how to wrench on your own diesel though as nobody seems to want to work on them.
Is the muffler mod mentioned in the video called the 'gundo' hack? From your description, I don't think it is. I'm looking to do something like this on my 08 S. Any info appreciated.
@@husmanbros Apparently, the hack is only applicable to 955's as the 957's have a slightly different muffler exit that rotates downwards on exiting the muffler. So not a straight pathway into the muffer.
The video had a lot of corporate-esque language used. I don't know why they couldn't speak naturally. This is not some accounting or marketing PowerPoint presentation.
Please ask the person holding the camera to decide what they want to focus on first, shine the light there, and then hold that camera in place. Sorry to have to say it, but the picture is so unstable and shaky as to make it useless at times. Hope it helps.
And a screw with a cap was simplest - we tried several different glues, etc, but the texas heat and road vibrations beat them all. Ultimately this is a nearly 20 year old car we take offroad.
Talk about confusing schizophrenia from these guys. At 11:04 he calls these three vehicles "CARS" and a few seconds later he calls them "TRUCKS"!!! I'd say skip the confusion and call them high performance luxury SUV's. I love my 2014 Cayenne GTS fully optioned. Great tow vehicle for my 4400 lb two azle travel trailer. Actually fun to pull the trailer. Especially on entrance ramps ha ha. Nobody expects you to get up to highway speed that fast.
This guy is full of bs when he says that the turbo can't hold to the turbo s when pulling. The difference between the 955/9PA turbo and turbo s is just a factory soft tuning (aside from bigger braking discs). The 70 aditional horsepower are tuned for high end speeds, not for 0-100 / 100-200 acceleration. This is consemnated, don't take my word for it. Go check the times/specs, are posted online
I got nothing from these guys.I just wanted to know what to look for When buying 955 957 porsche. What a waste of time these guys started talking like they were selling the vehicle
All I hear is....., I replaced this, changed this thing out, overfilled oil, remove engine, tricks to do such, how to look at cooling at cooling pipes, spark pads, replacing trickle charger....if i keep watching this guy and the everything he's doing in just 1 vid, frankly i dont know whats more exhausting. Listening to him drone on about all the wrong things about this ride....listening to him hearing himself talk and worst yet, how anyone can listen to this trying to convince that these late models examples are still relevant is a waste of time. Face it...the era is over long ago. Technology has made these metal piles absolete. Stop trying to fix past engineering faux pas. If you have this many subject points that need fixing, just let regular Joe's this is out of there league and stop false hope. And smh, all this for a Volkswagen based engine and trying to want to be on steroids, with a shell of a turtle. Reminds me of the little VW Bug... I think i can, i think i can.....

Also you can put 18' original rims on 368kw model support, there will be approx 2mm gap between rim and support. I use this rims for winter driving R18 255/55 tires.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
First Cayenne came in 2002... Cayenne S had 340hp and Turbo 450hp.
My home slice is selling his first generation cayenne. 2007 Cayenne with 98k miles for $8500
What about the Transfer case issues ?
We haven’t had any t case issues on any Cayennes we have had.
Great video, just a suggestion. Remove the trap background track.
Noted!
Hey I have a question pls
I own my self a Porsche cayenne Turbo S
2006
Olive Green metallic
Slick top (no sunroof)
And 20 inch Sport techno rims
It’s my car rare how many of them was build like my one ?
Good question that I don’t think we have the answer to. Hard to tell exact color codes per model year.
@@husmanbros are YOU maybe interested on buying it ?

Thanks!
And yes, these are a thirsty V8
Seems wrong from a weight balancing standpoint, perhaps the fuel tank is mostly on the pass. side(?)
I generally enjoy working on my Mercedes cars more, but the Cayenne is pretty mechanic friendly too.
Just subscribed I want one

I love this videos
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always V8
The door run away 😂
I miss my touareg
Is the muffler mod mentioned in the video called the 'gundo' hack? From your description, I don't think it is. I'm looking to do something like this on my 08 S. Any info appreciated.
Not sure about the name but the hack mentioned in the video should be applicable to most cayennes
@@husmanbros Apparently, the hack is only applicable to 955's as the 957's have a slightly different muffler exit that rotates downwards on exiting the muffler. So not a straight pathway into the muffer.
The music is distracting and unnecessary, but I still 👍 for the valuable information.
Great video, What are your thoughts on the diesel version?
Rob is actually looking into getting a diesel to build next. He has a newer diesel as well. They are fantastic
didnt tell about the 3.2 V6.
What is so hard about saying SUV instead of truck for these dudes XD
We consider them more trucks than SUVs based on our experience with them
The video had a lot of corporate-esque language used.
Good to know, what time stamp in the video are you referring to specifically? Would help to know.
@@husmanbros From 13:57 on until 17:48. But that could be just me in which case I apologize. Still, a very good program.
"some people run a screw in the seat backs" ruff buggers.... many simple ways to attach seat backs.
And a screw with a cap was simplest - we tried several different glues, etc, but the texas heat and road vibrations beat them all. Ultimately this is a nearly 20 year old car we take offroad.
I'd be interested in your 2006 turbo S , reach out to me
I have one and am interested in selling
Ha ha, Hunt Brothers. Few people these days under 60 probably even knows what they attempted.
Hi ho silver!
That swing out spare tire is beautiful
We agree!
It’s hard to keep it consistent when it is all improv. We will try to do better.
❤Help me find one?
We are selling ours on bat soon
@@husmanbros Mahalo Thanks!
I’d sell mine for 6000
@@dubbjohnson Thanks. I'm shopping around.Does it need anything? miles? I'd like to repaint one.. Would need to . ship to Maui.
The video they are referencing is Harry going up Hell's gate in a bone stock S: ruclips.net/video/sUevAlAjB_0/видео.html
That’s the one!
It is not a truck and it irks me hearing guys call them that. It's an SUV.
Life is tough, hang in there bud.
So bigger brakes do nothing for improved towing experience?
@@husmanbros he used the word "pulling" in the context of acceleration, not towing.
The turbo s is not stock.
@@husmanbros then why compare it to the stock version of the other models? Is pointless.
Wearing a “the world is flat” shirt when talking about V8 Porsches.
My “the world is a V” shirt was in the wash
I really really wanted to watch this but that constant music is driving me insane.
We will keep that in mind, thanks for the feedback.
I got nothing from these guys.I just wanted to know what to look for When buying 955 957 porsche. What a waste of time these guys started talking like they were selling the vehicle
Unfortunately, we have no Cayennes to sell you. Thanks for the views tho!
You have too much sun there. Thats why these roofliners drop. And most of the time you are short of the money. Stop crying baby. I got this.
What to look for when buying a Cayenne? Buy a Touareg.
