Actually Willy (who wrote it) does a wonderful version. Probably better. It's about a disabled guy in Fort Worth, I think, that Willy used to see on the streets (by Leonard's Dept Store) selling pencils and, at Christmas, paper.
Three of my all-time favorites, three giants (and many others), have recorded this beautiful Christmas song: Willie Nelson (who wrote it), Roy Orbison, and Marty Robbins. Each of their versions is wonderful.
One of the most moving and beautiful Christmas songs ever written and Marty does a great job but, no one does it as well as ole Roy Orbison. His voice is so perfect and sad it makes me cry every time I hear it.
Willie Nelson seldom missed a thing. A legless man sitting on a sidewalk, on a board with wheels, selling pencils during the Christmas season. Willie's body may have passed him by, but his brain didn't. The man selling pencils and pretty paper, leaves a strong visualization of himself and had no idea that the whole world, sees him selling that box of pencils along with some pretty paper. Willie helps us see a lot of things, we don't see ourselves. Thanks Willie. Robbins did a great job showing us the legless man also.
Hi Don , so you are from Glendale , well so am I . you made have heard my name a lot , I'm fighting to get something in Glendale for Marty Robbins . I have loved this man forever . No one can match his voice . Keep loving Marty . your Marty friend , Betty
Marty was a friend of mine, I spoke with Debbie the day Marty passed away... he never lost his smile and jovial personality right to the end.

Marty, Roy and Willie are 3 of the best and this is one of the best Christmas songs one can enjoy all year round as well.
