Marty Robbins Pride And The Badge

- Marty Robbins was an incredible artist. An artist who could paint pictures of his beloved west where he came from and which he loved so much. Without Marty Robbins western music might have all but been forgotten; he breathed new life into it in 1959 when he recorded his masterpiece album 'Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs' which has stood the test of time with it's spellbinding and poetical storylines. Whenever anyone around the world thinks of cowboy music Marty is undoubtedly at the top of mosts people's lists and deservedly so for he brought back the sound of a time long gone with the quality of his songwriting and that wonderful voice.
Marty Robbins was not only one of the greatest singers of all time, but for sheer unadulterated talent I can't think of anyone better. - Видеоклипы
I am here today to listen to this song in memory of another Law Man who has gone to his maker! We buried him today with full honors as it should be. He served 8 years with Special Forces and then carried a badge for another 23 years, a Federal Agent that will always be remembered. Dave and I were partners for many years. God Bless Him and Welcome Him Home!
JOHN TAYLOR: I'm very sorry about your partner. I hope to meet both of you in heaven. God have mercy on Dave's soul.
God bless you and Your partner you are true American heroes!
Crew
God Bless you, and God Bless Dave. We are free because good men are willing to do violence on behalf of what is right. A man who isn't capable of doing violence in the cause of right isn't "peaceful". He's just harmless. He's also useless.
God bless.
23 years I wore a badge in Texas, My son has been wearing a badge in Texas for over eight years and my grandson is already talking about when he gets old to carry a badge
36 years for me in Texas as a Texas Highway Patrolman and Sheriff
Thank you for your family's service. A badge is a heavy burden these days. I'd still wear mine with pride and honor if I wasn't so damn old
26 years in Memphis, Tn.

Thanks to all who Wear it with Pride!
As a young teenager I knew and sang every song Marty Robbins recorded. He was, and still is my hero. In 1965, at the age of 15, I was blessed to sit on the piano stool with the great Marty Robbins. He was doing a show in Newton, Ms. at an old school house. He asked me to sing. Nervous and scared I asked him to play "Don't Worry 'bout me." I did my best to imitate him as he so graciously laughed with joy. They say impersonation is the pinnacle of complement and I tried hard. Marty Robbins has no equal. I plan on singing with him again one day. I am now a retired law enforcement officer. Love this song.
That's awesome. I would have been 5 yrs old then.. my mom n I wore out the Gunfighter ballads album ❤
There's a whole western movie in the lyrics of each one of Marty's songs
KatP71 what is it called?
Specifically High Noon in this one.
Those words are so true
Or a good scene that you'd see in rdr2 online
I'd like a movie of "Little Joe the Wrangler" ---
But of course ; "The Cowboys" kinda fits -- lol
I'm 77 years old and have been a Marty Robbins fan since I was a teenager but this is the first time I ever heard this song. A pure Marty Robbins classic.
When the US of A was the land of morals and courage.
Saddest line is at the end "to them I'm just a killer and they could not care less bout my pride or bout the badge I wear upon my chest" still holds far to true.
Which is itself a mystery. Youd think a town that was single handedly saved from violent outlaws by their deputy would be somewhat more appreciative.
A lot of people in the Old West saw law officers as hired killers -- just above bounty hunters
i feel you bro what they of him
@@comettamer This also still holds true
Especially now. Imagine beating a man to death because he's out to protect the people
storyteller without equal
Amen So Very True
Dylan and Simon are pretty damn good, but Marty is my favorite.
Love Marty a great cowboy singer we used to sing some songs when I was a child 👩🌺
Marty Robbins was and still is the greatest country & western singer/songwriter that ever lived
+Janet Gayle One of the best for sure ..
Without doubt Janet. The greatest ever blessed with a beautiful voice with a great range filled with a soulful sincerity.
+Janet Gayle i agree love him
Janet Gayle Marty Rbbins 'songs never get old
Janet Gayle YES BUT YA GOTA PUT JOHNNY IN AS WELL YO XXXXX SUNDAYS E DA BEST ..MY TIME W MY DADDY
What many not know is that Marty's ancestor was a Texas Ranger. He's not singing a song, he's telling us a story about his family. He's telling us a truth of life.
This has to be one of the most legendary songs I’ve ever heard. How Marty’s name isn’t a household one is a total mystery.
His name IS a household name here. Had the pleasure of seeing him in San Diego in the late 70’s the BEST show I had ever seen just Marty a piano and no screaming and yelling.🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸
I am now 72. I was raised in New Jersey. I listened to Marty every day when in High School. He is one of the best singers and song writers of all times!
@Big D I am today's youth, 15 years old and listening to Marty!
No one, but no one will ever equal him.
Proud to have been a US Army Military Police during the Vietnam Era and after .
Wore my badge with pride in Texas for 37 years (P.D.). My uncle wore one in Texas in the '50s (S.O). My sister-in-law wore one here (S.O.) and now my nephew wears one (Texas Ranger). Marty's song pretty much sums up what it takes to gear up everyday and head out...pride.
Blessed are the peace makers. Treat people like a million bucks…. But have a plan to kill then
Love to your family! As a Northern Californian and Police Officer… we disagree with these policies and Administration In California . I pray your family stays safe!
Thanks for you service
32 years in this game nothing would be more rewarding to me than if one of would earn a Ranger's Star some day.
It is really sad that the last verse of the song sums up the feels that many of the public feel for our brave men and women that wear the badge today, they put their lives on the line every day to protect those who despise them, with very little thanks or appreciation
Cops suck it’s not heroic anymore it’s about arresting citizens
A cops job is not to protect the public, it’s to enforce state authority. While that may have been a noble cause in the past, it no longer is as we live in an illegitimate state. Cops today serve their pension and narcissism, with maybe 10% being honest lawmen.
The last verse hits hard for badge wearers.
Marty Robbins had a talent that we will never see or hear again, in these modern times.
You want to listen to some of Dave Stamey's ballads. He doesn't sing about gunfighters, but his cowboys are true to life. Start with The Vaquero Song. Marty Robbins was a great talent and there are others, but the tank isn't empty yet.
70 years old and
he still brings tears to my eyes
Bobby Chism me too
68 years stil show emotion. I do on most of his songs.
@@williamjones2340 15 years old, and just ran into Marty.
@@novus1589 I'm 15 and I first heard him in Fallout New Vegas to be honest. Definitely one of my favorite singers and I listen to very few modern bands/singers, the only ones being Colter Wall and The Dead South, both from Canada 🇨🇦
@@novus1589 I also love Johnny Cash
Hearing this takes me back to the day Marty Robbins died. A promotion list came out that day, so there was a party that night. That was the day Ed Barstow made Sergeant on the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
Mike Keele I cried like a 5 yo the day when the newscaster announced " C/W great Martin David Robinson, aka Marty Robbins has died". I lived in Jamaica then.
The day he died, we were preparing for a promotion party. My buddy Ed, had just made sergeant and the party was for him. That night, Wink Martingale was scheduled the do a memorial special of Robbins' life. That send-off tribute was so special to us that we ducked out of the party for an hour to listen in.
I saw Marty perform live twice. Once, in 1962, when there was a huge Country show at the Hollywood Bowl. The next time was ten years later, when he was appearing at the Fremont Hotel in Las Vegas. I think that show cost $7.00 to see in their main ballroom.
I wish radio stations would play some of the old country masters. Marty, John, Patsy, Johnny Lee, Loretta, Faron, George, Ect,they may find their listeners would love it!!!!!!
It is so refreshing to see sensible folks giving Marty Robbins his true credentials the greatest without a doubt 🧐
the greatest part of this song and others like it is you can picture the words that are sung. really love this song.
I loved that! I love that he has a small collection of songs about the same story. Next time, Listen to El Paso, and then Faleena(From El Paso). It tells the story from the perspective of "Him" and then his love. It's amazing how into detail he was so long ago.
Outlaw Bear: don’t forget El Paso city, it’s about the cowboy from El Paso being reincarnated in modern day
Agreed
I grew up with gunfighters ballad and the trail songs and now at age 54 i still enjoy Marty Robbins songs as if i am hearing them for the first time.
I discovered him at 18 and I've been listening to him since and I'm 21 now. best singer storyteller I've ever heard.
Devon Abrahams I found him by chance when I was about 17 haha many years ago. I had the pleasure of seeing him at Wembley his last show in the UK.
@@matthewryan7209 you're 25 now
Saw Marty at the Long beach arena back in 1978 what Entertainer he was, my wife had not seen him before in person only on TV, she was hooked on him, Marty you are missed there will never be another like you.
All Marty Robbins songs are great but this one is iconic
I agree. Pride and the Badge is very special.
Its a shame this type of western / country music is dead. Its amazing in its simplicity. It doesn't need expensive recording / dubbing equipment.
Problem is you don’t get people who can do the western story telling anymore Marty and Johnny Cash were some of the last ones well not the very last. But the last of the most famous and very well know to do this type of song. Sad because I grew up on this and enjoy it a lot.
Such a sad song. But I still love it. No one sings better than Mr. Marty Robbins
Carole Shaffer it’s not sad at all. Those that gave their life “for nothing” against bad men and worse odds gave their life so that others, inspired by those that died for justice, carry on. Those that gave everything built western civilization. Give thanks and live with honor. ᛟ
I don't listen to these songs while driving because I'm so busy visualizing what's happening in the song that I'm not paying proper attention to what's happening on the road.
BRINGS BACK GOOD MEMORIES OF BEING A POLICEMAN.
THANK THE LORD I NEVER HAD TO SHOOT MY GUN.
AN AWESOME STORY TELLER .
THIS IS MY WIFE;S FAVORITE.
I like it as well. I'm 12
I really Happy for you that you didn't have use you weapon!!! Marty was excellent story teller.
I is sorely missed him. I wish like very many, many wish people their is singer ballad singer as this GOOD....
I'm thinking about making a change in my life, and find a somewhat small town to move to, and try to work for the local police department, or sheriff. Maybe I should just look around for places I could become a deputy and see where I can afford a home. I'm in my mid 30s, I work out most days of the week, I think I could be a force of good adding to law enforcement. I've been pondering this path in life for the past few years, as a way to do it as honest and honorably as possible, to actually serve my community.
My whole point is when I hear songs like this one, especially Marty Robbins songs, some Billy Walker, I think about how our country has been the past few years, and I think "maybe this is my path to take. Find a department that will get me trained and hire me. I imagine there are places that need warm bodies that actually want to help uphold law and order in their community. Maybe I'm nuts. I really think I might do this.
We should take this song and Play it at Beginning of Shift Muster in Every Police Department in America. It will instill Pride and Purpose in every Officers heart as he leaves to do the job he's sworn to do.
Smoking a cigar and listening to Marty Robbins. He's incredible.
I find that this music is better than the country the radio today so i like to call it western
No comparison, Marty Robbins was the best ever to do it, even when the other bests were around.
all of that from memory. there was no teleprompter. He was amazing. Nobody will ever come close to his singing.
This song is more relevant than ever
The king of country
For me in C&W, it is Hank Sr. and Marty and everyone else. Sorry, they call George Strait, are you kidding - Marty wrote over 200 songs (like this classic song) and Strait has barely only written a handful. Jimmie Rodger is the godfather of Country as he founded it.
So very prophetic of society today. Everybody takes pictures and videos but no one thinks to help.
no one will ever take Marty's place plenty of good singers but no one can copy his style
A movie for your mind, truly beautiful
I've been listening Marty Robin while living in Jamaica as a young kid. Personally no other artist can cover the pictures of the wild west than Marty Robins. Not even Willie Nelson. Just Close your eyes and your in a Western Movie when he is singing. Big Tune. Thx
This and Georgia blood my favourite Marty robins songs
Marty is the best story teller/musician of all time, he sings with passion and skill.
'From their looks I know exactly what they think of me'. 'they could not care less about my pride or the badge I wear upon my chest.' I LOVE this song and what it stands for.
The ranger's motto is no man in the wrong can stand up to a man in the right, if the man in the right keeps on a coming.
I was lucky enough to count this dear Man among my friends for the last 10 years of his life. I love and miss him and there will never be another Marty Robbins. What a talent!
I found a newspaper clipping advertising a Marty Robbins show at six flags over mid-america, back in 1974.
Now, this song didn't come out for another five years after that show, but the thought of seeing him perform this at that amphitheater has captured my imagination since discovering that advertisement. Shame that there is no live footage.
Was a great Balladeer
We need a little more this in America today June 2020
Great cowboy 🤠 singer ever my favorite hands down and very handsome 👩💝
The simple pleasure of listening to a master of his craft painting a story with words in a way that you can understand...Where is such talent today...?.

There is a lot of talent out there. Unfortunately, what is played on the radio is crap. I am a big fan of Andrew Combs and Lindi Ortega.
There is very little these past two decades...
Ok boomer
We know why Marty Robbins wasn't a movie producer, he would write a movie & sing it in roughly 3-4 minutes. He left nothing to the imagination. Every detail was in the song. All that was left, was the color of their boots & attire.
Without a doubt, the best western singer, ever.
No one could sing a western song like
him!
What an artist. A gifted songwriter and singer. His songs still sound wonderful. Will we remember the rubbish that is produced nowadays in five years let alone fifty. You died too young Marty.
I would most definitely buy the DVD!
Marty Robbins was the best of the best i like a lot of the country singers but he has always been the top I'm 51 and i think today's country singers could learn something from him even after his death you have to put your heart and soul into your song
OUTSTANDING
I like to think of this as the same deputy from Tall Handsome Stranger because of the same unwillingness
I dont cry at a lot of stuff but man this made me cry almost in pride
None greater in Country, ever... 🤩😍🍀
I LOVE THIS SONG IT REMINDS ME OF MY BELOVED HUSBAND.
I really love everything about this song, I love the melody, I love the storytelling, I love the story, I love the protagonist, I love how people view him as a killer in the end, rather than the expected hero celebration. The badge he wears with pride, is his motivating factor, his saving grace, and all he has in the end.
Oh! Also, I love the random out of place inflections of Robbins' voice...
Kind of how motorcycle gang members treat their patch.
It sounds so much more somber than Marty Robbin's other gunslinger ballads. It reminds me of Johnny Cash's big iron cove.
great singer great song great man
My favorite singer of all time I hear his voice I get chills
I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Marty Robbins in a live concert. Was seated about ten fee away from this amazing entertainer.
Grandma 1n
You are correct, but this is not the world I grew up in and swore to protect. Another Law Man who just died last month said "THIS ISN'T OUR WORLD ANYMORE! He wore a badge longer than I have, but he was correct! This isn't our world anymore, but we still took an oath and I for one will keep that oath until the end.
Have a very Merry Christmas and God Bless You.
John
+John Taylor I hope and pray that God will keep you safe / protect you, John. You can help Him along, too, by being super careful! I told one of my sons not too long ago, I don't like this world anymore. MY world was probably safer than what YOU grew up in.Anywho, Merry Christmas and God Bless You, too. B.
An amazing set of lyrics with just right solo guitar. An amazing storyteller.
Amazing how a song can make you cry . . .
Still the best story telling song I’ve ever heard. Like listening to a slick ass movie
What a story in a song. This was a great man.
I love everything this man ever sang.
This song would be the best theme song for a re-make of "High Noon", as it is about a town Marshal who gets no help from the townfolk when confronting 5 outlaws; which is the premise of "High Noon".
Those who have had the experience of fear so intense that the mouth really is so dry that you might as well have a mouthful of dust and that miserable rolling feeling below your belt buckle threatens to take control know what it costs to stand up and get moving anyway.
Those who haven't had those experiences really don't know what this song is about. It occurred to me to wonder at how many people thought of the movie High Noon when they were facing down their own demons?
you damm right about perfect analyis
His muse was burnin'! These are terrific poems put to music. Too many people-like I used to-only know El Paso. Alive forever for this gold Mr Marty Robbins.
Tony joe white-Willy and
So beautiful!
haha i feel so outa place but when you know good music you know good music.
got my 1st taste of marty in a game known as fallout new vegas. big iron now i can sing 40 percent of his songs lol hes got like 500 XD
Magic country singer my favourite
I love this song and all of his gunslinger songs. He could tell a story in his songs like no one else. I've never heard anyone come close to having that talent as he does. All his music tells a story but especially his ballads. When I was younger I didn't appreciate his music as much as I do now.
What an amazing voice, never mind the incredible story telling
This is a deep song❤❤
Who misses those years?❤❤
Wish I could have met Marty
What a great songwriter he was! This is my favorite Marty song.
Lil pantha I so agree there will never be a singer like marty
awesome song awesome singer. the best western singer ever
What a great talent Marty was! I saw him on stage in 1954. He had just come out of the Navy and sang many Hawaiian songs. Been hooked on his singing for 63 years!
Unbeatable
I am glad I was able to meet him a few times when I was younger. Now I make sure to teach the younger generation about him so he will live on.
I was able to meet him and follow him to his shows in the Midwest in the late 1970s and early 1980s. That was one special thing my mom and I shared. Going to his shows and he would remember us at each show. Cool thing about Marty was that he would stay for hours signing autographs for EVERY Single fan. If he didn't have time, then nobody got an autograph. I always wondered over the last 32 years what he would have sung or acted in if he didn't take that one step beyond in 1982.
This is one of my favorite songs of Marty Robbins as far as I'm concerned, he was the best.
I so much love this song. It is so mesmerizing. Marty's lyrics are just as good or better than Bob Dylan's.
This song is one of Marty's true masterpieces.
I have worn a badge for all of my adult life from one government agency or another, I say a prayer every day for my brothern that also were the badge, because the world to day is not the world we had when we joined to protect the people of our country from the evil that is out there now. The world is far more dangerous now than then, but I would not change my decision for anything! BE SAFE OUT THERE!
The real criminals cannot be apprehended because they operate under the color of law.

se7ensnakes I do agree with you on that. But I believe there are some in law enforcement that mean good.
Marty told stories in all his songs especially western songs this one would parallel the movie high noon my favorite singer of all time
One of my favorite Marty Robbins. And I have a lot of them
The most awesome voice ever I get chills still today hearing him my favorite singer of all time
I had never heard this song. There are no longer songs like this any more. Thank you for sharing this song.
That is an incredible box set (of course! All Bear Family productions are stellar)! This is one of my favorite ones from the album! Marty was so, so talented.
I love all of Marty's songs, but I like his self-penned songs the most. And "Pride and the Badge" is one of my favorites, along with "San Francisco Teardrops" and "The City."
Dammmm this tale IS FUCKING AMAZING
greatly relevant today
