Out in New Mexico, many long years ago There in a shack on the desert, one night in a storm Amid streaks of lightnin' and loud desert thunder To a young Mexican couple, a baby was born Just as the baby cried, thunder and lightnin' died Moon gave it's light to the world and the stars did the same Mother and Father, both proud of the daughter That heaven had sent them, Faleena was this baby's name When she was seventeen, bothered by crazy dreams She ran away from the shack and left them to roam Father and Mother, both asked one another What made her run away, what made Faleena leave home Tired of the desert nights, poverty, grief and strife She ran away late one night in the moon's golden gleam She didn't know where she'd go, but she'd get there And she would find happiness, if she would follow her dream After she ran away, she went to Sante Fe And in the year that she stayed there, she learned about life In just a little while, she learned that with a smile She could have pretty clothes, she could be any man's wife Rich men romanced her, they dined and they danced her She understood men and she treated them all just the same A form that was fine and rare, dark shining glossy hair Lovely to look at Faleena was this woman's name Restless in Sante Fe, she had to get away To any town where the lights had a much brighter glow One cowboy mentioned the town of El Paso They never stopped dancin' and money like whiskey did flow She bought a one-way, a ticket from Sante Fe Three days and nights on a stage with a rest now and then She didn't mind that, she knew she would find that Her new life would be more exciting than where she had been The stage made it's last stop, up there on the mountain top To let her see all of the lights at the foot of the hill Her world was brighter and deep down inside her An uncontrolled beating, her young heart just wouldn't be still She got a hotel, a room at the Lily Belle Quickly she changed to a form-fitting black satin dress Ev'ry man stopped to stare, at this form fine and rare Even the women remarked of the charm she possessed Dancin' and laughter, was what she was after And Rosa's Cantina had lights, with love in the gleam That's what she hunted and that's what she wanted Rosa's was one place, a nice girl would never be seen It was the same way, it was back in Sante Fe Men would make fools of themselves at the thought of romance Rosa took heed of, the place was in need of This kind of excitement, so she paid Faleena to dance A year passed and maybe more and then through the swingin' doors Came a young cowboy so tall and so handsomely dressed This one was new in town, hadn't been seen around He was so different, he wasn't like all of the rest Faleena danced close to him, then threw a rose to him Quickly he walked to her table and there he sat down And in a day or so, wherever folks would go They'd see this young cowboy, showin' Faleena the town Six weeks he went with her, each minute spent with her But he was insanely jealous of glances she'd give Inside he was a-hurtin', from all of her flirtin' That was her nature and that was the way that she lived She flirted one night, it started a gun-fight And after the smoke cleared away, on the floor lay a man Faleena's young lover, had shot down another And he had to leave there, so out through the back door he ran The next day at five o'clock, she heard a rifle shot Quickly she ran to the door, that was facin' the pass She saw her cowboy, her wild-ridin' cowboy Low in the saddle, her cowboy was ridin' in fast She ran to meet him, to kiss and to greet him He saw her and motioned her back, with a wave of his hand Bullets were flyin', Feleena was cryin' As she saw him fall from the saddle and into the sand Faleena knelt near him, to hold and to hear him When she felt the warm blood that flowed from the wound in his side He raised to kiss her and she heard him whisper "Never forget me, Faleena it's over, goodbye." Quickly she grabbed for, the six-gun that he wore And screamin' in anger and placin' the gun to her breast Bury us both deep and maybe we'll find peace And pullin' the trigger, she fell 'cross the dead cowboy's chest Out in El Paso, whenever the wind blows If you listen closely at night, you'll hear in the wind A woman is cryin', it's not the wind sighin' Old timer's tell you, Feleena is callin' for him You'll hear them talkin' and you'll hear them walkin' You'll hear them laugh and you'll look, but there's no one around Don't be alarmed, there is really no harm there It's only the young cowboy, showin' Faleena the town
Daaaang bro. This is such good writing. I had shivers. I just found out there was a counterpart song to el paso from feleena's perspective. That ending was haunting.
In case there are any here who do not realize it, this rendition by Marty is a Masterpiece! Magnificent in its simplicity with no backup or fancy audio gimmicks…
One of the best things on all of RUclips. The images he paints are so vivid and the story moves so powerfully to where you know it’s going to go, but all it is is three guitar chords and a voice.
Thank you for posting this truly classic piece of music. I have always been a Marty Robbins admirer and have appreciated his music since i was a child. I was not aware this song existed until a few years ago when I came across it on you Tube. I never heard it on the radio - probably because of the length of the song so I do not believe the song ever got the praise that it so richly deserves. El Paso has always been one of my all time favorite pieces of music and Feleena is such a perfect follow up. This video is also a classic - filmed in black and white makes it even more special and the setting is perfect, as is the old timer behind the bar. Thanks again for posting thiod
You'll hear them laugh and you'll look, but there's no one around Don't be alarmed, there is really no harm there (It's only the young cowboy, showing Faleena the town) my body shivers when i hear this
To rate in terms of his self-penned musical achievements, IMHO this song is in second place with "The Chair" being the best. I just don't see how "The Chair" can be beat. There is no song like it. And Marty is the greatest/singersongwriter of all time.
Beautiful song, but a sad tragic story. But love make you do crazy things you didn't know you had in you. when you find the one you know and clearly they did find true love.
First of Elvis did not write "In the ghetto". It was written by Mac Davis. Marty wrote "Feleena". The songs' stories are not alike. Elvis is no where near the talent Marty was. Marty wrote over 200 songs. Elvis only co-wrote 2 songs that were mostly done by Red West.
What you don't like the WAP video dog!? And don't forget to get your security bulshit from Snoop Dogg and the other guy. They've been advertising that all over RUclips. Its gotta be good homie! This generation is a joke
Please never delete this.
I love how it’s the sister song to El Paso, from Feleena’s perspective
Yeah, it’s like the same story been told by two different individuals, awesome
As great as 1959's El Paso was, this answer song of sorts is just over the top pure genius. An absolute masterpiece of high drama.
Out in New Mexico, many long years ago
There in a shack on the desert, one night in a storm
Amid streaks of lightnin' and loud desert thunder
To a young Mexican couple, a baby was born
Just as the baby cried, thunder and lightnin' died
Moon gave it's light to the world and the stars did the same
Mother and Father, both proud of the daughter
That heaven had sent them, Faleena was this baby's name
When she was seventeen, bothered by crazy dreams
She ran away from the shack and left them to roam
Father and Mother, both asked one another
What made her run away, what made Faleena leave home
Tired of the desert nights, poverty, grief and strife
She ran away late one night in the moon's golden gleam
She didn't know where she'd go, but she'd get there
And she would find happiness, if she would follow her dream
After she ran away, she went to Sante Fe
And in the year that she stayed there, she learned about life
In just a little while, she learned that with a smile
She could have pretty clothes, she could be any man's wife
Rich men romanced her, they dined and they danced her
She understood men and she treated them all just the same
A form that was fine and rare, dark shining glossy hair
Lovely to look at Faleena was this woman's name
Restless in Sante Fe, she had to get away
To any town where the lights had a much brighter glow
One cowboy mentioned the town of El Paso
They never stopped dancin' and money like whiskey did flow
She bought a one-way, a ticket from Sante Fe
Three days and nights on a stage with a rest now and then
She didn't mind that, she knew she would find that
Her new life would be more exciting than where she had been
The stage made it's last stop, up there on the mountain top
To let her see all of the lights at the foot of the hill
Her world was brighter and deep down inside her
An uncontrolled beating, her young heart just wouldn't be still
She got a hotel, a room at the Lily Belle
Quickly she changed to a form-fitting black satin dress
Ev'ry man stopped to stare, at this form fine and rare
Even the women remarked of the charm she possessed
Dancin' and laughter, was what she was after
And Rosa's Cantina had lights, with love in the gleam
That's what she hunted and that's what she wanted
Rosa's was one place, a nice girl would never be seen
It was the same way, it was back in Sante Fe
Men would make fools of themselves at the thought of romance
Rosa took heed of, the place was in need of
This kind of excitement, so she paid Faleena to dance
A year passed and maybe more and then through the swingin' doors
Came a young cowboy so tall and so handsomely dressed
This one was new in town, hadn't been seen around
He was so different, he wasn't like all of the rest
Faleena danced close to him, then threw a rose to him
Quickly he walked to her table and there he sat down
And in a day or so, wherever folks would go
They'd see this young cowboy, showin' Faleena the town
Six weeks he went with her, each minute spent with her
But he was insanely jealous of glances she'd give
Inside he was a-hurtin', from all of her flirtin'
That was her nature and that was the way that she lived
She flirted one night, it started a gun-fight
And after the smoke cleared away, on the floor lay a man
Faleena's young lover, had shot down another
And he had to leave there, so out through the back door he ran
The next day at five o'clock, she heard a rifle shot
Quickly she ran to the door, that was facin' the pass
She saw her cowboy, her wild-ridin' cowboy
Low in the saddle, her cowboy was ridin' in fast
She ran to meet him, to kiss and to greet him
He saw her and motioned her back, with a wave of his hand
Bullets were flyin', Feleena was cryin'
As she saw him fall from the saddle and into the sand
Faleena knelt near him, to hold and to hear him
When she felt the warm blood that flowed from the wound in his side
He raised to kiss her and she heard him whisper
"Never forget me, Faleena it's over, goodbye."
Quickly she grabbed for, the six-gun that he wore
And screamin' in anger and placin' the gun to her breast
Bury us both deep and maybe we'll find peace
And pullin' the trigger, she fell 'cross the dead cowboy's chest
Out in El Paso, whenever the wind blows
If you listen closely at night, you'll hear in the wind
A woman is cryin', it's not the wind sighin'
Old timer's tell you, Feleena is callin' for him
You'll hear them talkin' and you'll hear them walkin'
You'll hear them laugh and you'll look, but there's no one around
Don't be alarmed, there is really no harm there
It's only the young cowboy, showin' Faleena the town

No matter how many times I play this classic I still feel tears . Such a great tune.
You have to be born with this amazing talent to write and sing like Marty. No one else like him.

Marty's grandfather was a medicine man who had musical talent. Marty was born with a great voice and the ability to write great songs.
There aren't that many genius singer songwriters, such as Pete Townshend, Warren Zevon, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Hank Sr and Marty Robbins.
a song of love and tragedy by the greatest singer songwriter and performer who ever lived unequalled

When you can sit, play 3 or 4 cords, and make a Masterpice. What an amazing time.
Sure do miss it 😥
This is by FAR the very best version. Thank you
Definitely!
Absolutly,
Marty Robbins was more than a singer, he is a story teller. I can listen to him tell stories like this for hours.
Marty Robbins was the greatest. His voice lives on forever.
Marty Robbins Ei Paso Triilogy is one of the greatest ever. The original videos are magnificent.
In case there are any here who do not realize it, this rendition by Marty is a Masterpiece! Magnificent in its simplicity with no backup or fancy audio gimmicks…
I will never understand that this vid hasn't more views.

Absolutely stunning song and performance!
Awesome, totally solo with no backup band or singers and just Marty with his favorite Martin 5-18 guitar.
Marty Robbins was an amazing story teller! I remember hearing this song many years ago for the first time and it still has that same impact.
I loved El Paso and El Paso City. I don't think I'd ever heard this one before!
The best song ever from El Paso y Santa Fe... Feleena (Felina) 2022 here
a truly amazing story, beautifully told by a legend.
I'm the old sherriff watching who's to shakey to do anything. Lol
My Favourite song sang/performed by my Favourite, MARTY ROBBINS. Thanks for this Video.

The 7.57 mins just fly by... No repeated verse and chorus shite in this song.....
You'll hear them laugh and you'll look, but there's no one around
Don't be alarmed, there is really no harm there
(It's only the young cowboy, showing Faleena the town)
my body shivers when i hear this
French guy here.As for me, this is TRUE american songs.Thx dad for the imports, as Marty remains merely unknown outside USA
Marty was very popular in the Netherlands. Jim Reeves was very popular in Norway.
Marty. What more can be said.

I love playing Marty robins because even if the chords aren’t that hard to play, it sounds angelic
Just Marty and his Martin 5-18 “Terz” guitar. No backup or fancy acoustics. There was a Musician. There was a Master.
Hank Sr. and Marty IMHO were the two most talented singer/songwriters in the history of C&W. I know I will catch some hell for this comment.
thanks for posting this
Only heard of this guy because of Breaking Bad. I can't believe it has taken me this long, thought El Paso was good but this is something else.
The Drifter, Ghost Town episode
I want to name my daughter faleena someday in honor of mr marty
...and now you know the rest of the story...
Man this thing is rarer than rare.
None better than the songs he sings about the west
How has no one made a movie based on the El Paso trilogy would be epic
Beautiful song, but a sad tragic story. But love make you do crazy things you didn't know you had in you. when you find the one you know and clearly they did find true love.
I called my Spanish acoustic guitar feelena. God I played her all the time
Fantastic song..... Fitting for El Paso
😍😍😍😍
