***** For the TDK the ending was kinda bad but I don't see Harvey Dent as a main villain it just would not have worked and TDKR sucked and the reason why was because there was so many plot holes
I agree. As much as I love the epicness of the Marvel First Ten Years complete with it's indelible finale, Endgame, I still think all those Marvel big deals are standing off to the side, looking at The Dark Knight with a single tear of envy in their proverbial eye.
@Spengler56 funny enough, it's actually the other way around for the Joker adaptations. Jack read the books, and ledger didn't. He watched and analysed the film of Joker's origin: "The Man Who Laughs" and read up on historic anarchists and serial killers. The material relating to the books was conveyed completely through the script in which the Nolan brothers read the novels obsessively.
I agree with what they're saying, but I really dislike how Roeper calls it "pop entertainment". I know he's showering praise on the movie, but that phrase kind of cheapens it and suggests that, while very good, can be discarded after viewing. Personally, I think the Dark Knight is much richer and deeper to be called "pop entertainment". Nitpicky, I know, but it does bug me.
To me, he's describing this picture the same way as critics described progressive rock. It has many of the hallmarks of pop, but greatly expands and twists them into something grander and more substantial. Pop is not inherently disposable, it's just there is so much bullshit people think it is.
@Myytmovies Yes,Bill Finger is almost never mentioned,it always just says "Batman created by Bob Kane". Even Kane himself wished he had given Bill a byline. Anyway,it's cool that you pointed that out
haha, it's funny how my prediction was spot on. After watching the movie I was mesmerized by it but at the same time, I'm pretty sure that there will be a bunch of people who thinks that the movie was good just because the sympathy to Heath Ledger. Regardless of that, it's still the best comic adaptation for me.
speaking of flaws, did anyone else catch the 'fingerprint off a shattered bullet'?? wouldn't the fingerprint be on the shell if he pushed it in???? i can understand a 'partial' fingerprint, but i was just wondering
So, anyone think this'll be better than Spider-Man 3? Or what about Superman Returns? I'm up for taking bets on this. Could possibly be the best superhero film yet.
Gary oldman could've played the joker if they offered it to him back in the late 80's but he would've been too dark for people to handle at the time. I think he could've also played harvey dent too is there any other character he could've played if they did batman right the first time and offered him a role?
At this time back in 08, Roger Ebert left the show to undergoes his treatment for thyroid cancer. He was diagnosed in 07 and had his surgery the next summer. So Roeper started having guest reviewers on the show. Michael Phillips was on the most
I was lucky enough to see an early screening of this film, let me just say....ITS FREAKIN AMAZING!!!! Usually when I get hyped about a movie, I leave disappointed, not the case here. If anything it exceeded all my expectations!!!
Every joker role from here on out will be compared to Ledgers Joker. Legendary performance. Also Bale is one of the best actors all time, his Bruce Wayne is perfect.
@Abr022575 The Nolan pictures haven't taken that much of a stab either, aside from the bullet in the wall forensics. The film doesn't need to have detective work per say, but it seemed that Burton was just "all over the place" in trying to find a way to properly envision the comic into film. Don't forget though, one of Burton's greatest flaws is style over substance, it's just done on a much more subtle note than directors who are normally criticized for such problems.
I love Bale as Batman but can you imagine Daniel Day Lewis as him?! He's a little old to play him now but maybe there could be some film that goes into an aging Batman.
@welovetofu Infernal Affairs was too compressed. The Departed expanded the story expertly so you actually understood the stress in being placed undercover and cared more about the characters.
@09tranm Here's what I think should win this year... Best Picture:SN Inception or True Grit. Best actor: Jeff Bridges hands down Best original screenplay: INCEPTION Best adapted screenplay: SN Best supporting actor: Christian Bale or Jeremy Renner. That's how I want the Oscars to go.
I wish we could hear Roger Ebert's opinion on this film and wish him the best in his ongoing battle with thyroid cancer. Anyway, I think the two reviewers got it all right in this glowing review of the film. I would have to struggle hard to find anything wrong with this wonderfully-crafted and superbly-acted (especially Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning turn as the Joker) masterpiece.
@stickinthemud1524 well 1. there is an entire day inbetween joker being "in jail" and the " ferries " scene. second,he didnt have 2 pick 2 fairies. all the fairies but one where going to have civilians on it, so all he had to do was find out which the prisoners would be on. that would be simple because it would be all over the news before they even boarded. and he did have cops on his pay roll, or did you forget that the Joker was not just a one many army ???
@sirdoodlebug219 I think any problems with his action directing are compensated for by the fact that he uses mostly physical effects and he doesn't favour quick cuts and close ups in fight scenes so you get a good sense of what's going on. I think when you look at films like The Prestiege and Inception you can see his ability to handle very complex, multi-layered stories. I think you have to admire his ambition, at a time in hollywood wen alot of directors (studios more so) want to play it safe
"...and should be considered for a nomination as "Best Picture"...

Unfair what they said about Nicholas’s performance in ‘89 Batman, he was very menacing.
I agree. As much as I love the epicness of the Marvel First Ten Years complete with it's indelible finale, Endgame, I still think all those Marvel big deals are standing off to the side, looking at The Dark Knight with a single tear of envy in their proverbial eye.
What was the flashy moment he talked about at 3:46? Was it the magic trick?
thanks for the video, its alot better than the handcam footage. 3 days left folks. I'm brimming with anticipation!
Well, what did you think of the movie?
Oh this was Ebert in name only, they had adopted the “see it” thing over the thumbs up thing.

Was looking forward to Ebert but these guys pretty much nailed it. TDK is a very difficult film to dislike.
@Spengler56 in the same interview he said he was given the books but did not read them very thoroughly. He did live in that hotel room though.
Critically one of the most underrated films of the decade...brilliant story, brilliant acting.
I want to know what his “slight quibble” about the run time was. What could have been cut? What is this film classic’s weakest moment?
What was the one flashy performance Michael Phillips was talking about?
@Abr022575 P.S. Apparently you forgot the ending to TDK. "Because HE'S NOT A HERO, he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight."
heath ledger's performance is indeed haunting. no one will ever top that in the near future. no one.
BEST. MOVIE. EVER.
I will never, ever watch Nicholson's Joker again. EVER.
@Thirdalproductions
yes it was dark but still a bit over the top in a few scenes.
Got this film on blu ray. Love it! Cant wait for dkr. I love bane and think hes going to be the best villain in the entire trilogy personally
You can find Ebert's own review on his site.
I love Bale as Batman but can you imagine Daniel Day Lewis as him?! He's a little old to play him now but maybe there could be some film that goes into an aging Batman.
@WhiteFlowerLei76
as opposed to what, iron man 2?
@welovetofu Infernal Affairs was too compressed. The Departed expanded the story expertly so you actually understood the stress in being placed undercover and cared more about the characters.
agreed. some things definately lacking in the film. Rachell? Harvey? Gothem or Chicago? Couldn't tell...
@Nagraath Decent leaning towards thumbs down or thumbs up?
@sirdoodlebug219 I think any problems with his action directing are compensated for by the fact that he uses mostly physical effects and he doesn't favour quick cuts and close ups in fight scenes so you get a good sense of what's going on. I think when you look at films like The Prestiege and Inception you can see his ability to handle very complex, multi-layered stories. I think you have to admire his ambition, at a time in hollywood wen alot of directors (studios more so) want to play it safe
