If you cannot format the USB because it says write protected and tried everything: this worked for me:
    Step1 - type 'list disk'
Step2 - type 'select disk *' (* you may need to replace * with the drive letter of your media)
    Step3 - type "convert mbr"
If it throws an error say unconvertable etc, type clean , then repeat Step 3

Thanks for this, the tutorial on the clear password utility was clutch. I had an acer aspire 5552 without boot device options, but noticed if you take out the HDD, it boots from usb! The utility worked, and I have access to the bios. So anyone who doesn't have usb boot options, try removing the hdd, maybe you'll get lucky like me.

Excellent vid. Based on the positive feedback in the comments regarding the first method I'd like to add a tip. In order to boot from the flash you have to select the flash drive from the boot menu at startup. On some laptops it may ask for a password at this point as well. All is not lost. In order to force the system to boot from the flash, simply disconnect your internal hard drive first (make sure your laptop is powered down before disconnecting the hard drive), then boot with the flash drive plugged in. It should then boot from the flash and you can follow on with the tutorial.
Also the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool may not work in Windows 10 for some flash drives. You can try another flash drive or do the format process on an older version of Windows for example: Windows XP.

search cmd -> write "List Disk".
Then see which disk number is the disk you want to format and fix it.
if number 1 is your usb disk: then just write "SELECT DISK 1"
      write "CLEAN"
      then write "Convert GPT"
      Then write "Convert MBR"
Now try again it should work.

No! It only works for CERTAIN Acers. And yes, then you can cheer. But sometimes the previous owner blocked booting from usb and cd. Thank God modern boot methods escape this blocking, so I can install Windows 10 or the newest Linux Mint. But installing a second operating system turns into a nightmare.
Do you see? Never forget your password for a modern Acer. Nice laptops, why not, but the combination of a forgotten password and restrictions on bootable devices, well, you should think twice about the risks.

When pressing F12, it only shows 1. Windows Boot Manager. No other drives are there.

The acer aspire v3 471 does not clear password when the battery is removed. I don't know how I can clear on this notebook.
