Computer circuitry can hold power for a while after you take the battery out. That's why he says to take it out for at least 30 minutes. Otherwise all the power will not drain from the motherboard completely. You should also wear an anti-static wrist strap or ground yourself before touching your motherboard. Electrostatic discharge can fry your motherboard or other vital components.

I just used the hiren boot cd method but i used the bios hack 4 instead of the 5 and it worked perfectly on a toshiba running windows 8 thank you very much
Thank you for that clear and informative tutorial, I will try that for my problem. I tried to update my bios but it comes up with "Not authorized as administrator" or similar to those words.
This only works on older and certain computers. Almost all newer computers and laptops write the BIOS to a chip and store it indefinitely despite the battery removal and the reset of the CMOS bridge jumper.
On my Acer 5750 it's under the memory chips. there is what looks like 4 little drops of solder, once the battery and all power sources are out just take a screw driver and short those drops out. power it back up and the bios should be clear. There are risk doing this, u could burn up your board. i've done it like 10 times on mine, just don't touch anything on the board but the drops.
My password doesn't remove!
I removed the CMOS Battery for 30 minutes because there is no jumper.
then I put it in and booted. then I wanted to enter the bios and there is a pasword like before! The only thing that changed was date and time -.-

thanks Miguel, great video. personally I wouldn't even bother doing this with Hirens boot CD, removing the battery is quick, simple and always works. I've never left it out for more than 10 or 15 seconds btw.
In some computers that doesn't always work (like some IBM ThinkPads). Some require resetting with boot disks like Hiren.
its also more than enough if you put out the battery for 1 minute, because the capacitor can't save the current long .

Hiren's Boot CD works only for older Phoenix Based Card, this will not work in newer card and is worthless to use. Only method is to remove the battery, or using jumper method.
And it is not necessary to leave the battery out for 30 minutes. hold down the power button to discharge any remaining voltage in the system and reinsert the battery..

This will only work on certain models that store the BIOS in volatile memory. The battery keeps power going to the CMOS to keep the settings. By taking out the battery or moving jumpers on Motherboards that have them, stops power from reaching the CMOS causing it to lose it's settings. The higher security Pro and Business models have the BIOS stored in non volatile memory and therefore can not be cleared by eliminating the power source.
*So far this seems to be the most legit one from a tech brain, very understandable process so far, will have to see if his method works after a bit on mine.*

Continuing to look what else lol. *Pity, it seems I do not have that jumper thing where I thought, but if I find it again wherever it was I might try, removed the Cmos battery and so on as suggested by another video. So this method did not work for mine, Toshiba one of the L series ones.*

i have one problem whenever i open my computer then i press F2 for set up then it asks for password but when i enter the password it appears as Invalid password and eventually it says as System shutdown or something like that is there any solution for this ?

There is a very interesting software called 'PC CMOS cleaner' that will helps you to clean cmos password without even opening the computer chassis, surely it will help you to deal with laptop cmos password :)
Hi Miguel , I've a big problem! I've got a Toshiba C55-A5303 recently! BLANK SCREEN , no logo!!! I updated it (win8 to win 8.1) and bios too as it was told!!! so!!! since these actions no more displays! I tried to connect to another with VGA, HDMI and it worked!!! I tried to change the choice at start with F4 and since that i've no more display!!! Laptop is starting and working but no display!!! how can I fix that bullsh....THX a lot

Remove the battery for 30 mins or more. And press the power button with no battery or plug attached. This will drain the residual power from the system.

I have a problem to reset the bios, put the password on dell N5110 aspiron already removed the internal battery and still requires bios password lost. What is your suggestion to unlock the password placed in the bios. I have used this program but it did not work with the notebook from DELL. -legacy boot
-UEFI boot
Secure boot option Disabled
Load legacy option Rom Enabled
Boot list option Legacy

There are guides for putting hiren's on a USB drive, you just have to know where to look. I put it on an SD card and it works fine.
Removing the CMOS battery is not working.. The POWER ON password is still there.. Please help

+AvoidErrors After removing the CMOS battery, also remove the laptop battery, and make sure it is unplugged...actually this should have been done before even opening the laptop. Press down on the start button and hold down for up to 60 seconds. This will drain any residual electricity from the capacitors. Now replace the battery on the motherboard. This should work.

+Rakib Hasan If you can't get to the menu to select a different boot source, take the hard drive out and the BIOS will have to go to the next source on the list (likely the optical drive). This will boot the laptop with the Hiren Boot Disk and let you use the tools on the BIOS. Also, you can often plug the hard drive back in as soon as the computer goes to a different boot source and diagnose O.S. and hard drive issues.
