Pre-Order 'Civilian': linktr.ee/gentlegiantband
Directed by Noah Shulman
Animation & Design by Trey Trimble
Lyrics:
As I sit, as the world goes 'round
In the room I've known before
Is it me? Am I inside out?
In a dream, as I watch the floor
Everywhere, see, they are closing in
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting
But you say, no, there's nobody there
Do I need lifting, do I need
Do I need, do I, do I need?
How the colors seemed so bright
Now it feels they've lost their glow
And the dreams, only nightmares now
Images, from down below
Everything is spinning 'round
'Round and 'round I go
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting
Where's the door, now I don't know
Do I need lifting
(Do I need, do I need, do I?) x3
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting
Do I need lifting, do I need?
Funny how I lose control
Funny how, I don't feel me
But I do feel I'm inside out
But I hear, I feel, I see
Everything is getting dark
No, please don't lock me in
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting
Am I here, the light is growing dim
Do I need lifting
(Do I need, do I need, do I?) x3
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting
Inside out
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting
Inside out
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting
Do I need lifting, do I need lifting Видеоклипы
I have been a fan of bands such as Yes, King Crimson, Genesis and Jethro Tull for years. Why I have only just discovered Gentle Giant now is just one of those things in life. The important thing is that they are with me now.
At 51 years old, I had almost given up on finding a missing gem.
This is a great band. I am overjoyed to be at the start of this, digging into a wonderful back catalogue.
Thank you to all in the band for the journey I am about to undertake x.
Not a great band. The greatest band.
Whoa! Having listened to the Giant for the past 20+ years I really envy you... Enjoy the trip!
@@togfiado Indeed.
I discovered Gentle Giant listening to Clyde Clifford KAAY/AM on the program 'Beaker Street' back in 1970 something. All album underground music. Thank you, Clyde/Dale S.
If you like those bands, you'll enjoy Camel. Check them out. I have been a KC fan since the late 70's when I was in High School. Enjoy your journey through the GG catalog!
If only the boys got together again for one last tour
I know… same here…🙏💫
They release new songs after 50 years and people will definitely lose their minds
It’s a shame that ray shulman passed away that would have been cool
My fondest dream. Alas, too late.
One of the best bands Forever ✌
Gentle Giant is one of those rare bands that's timeless yet adaptative to the new times. Nice to see great works being revived.
Vastly underrated and beautifully dystopic album that is perfect for our times.
Yes, well. After you listen to "In A Glass House", "Octopus" or "Free Hand" then you understand why this album is so underrated. Fairly so, IMHO. Cheers.
@@cfibanez Yes - as you rightly point out, because it was being listened to by people through the lens of the past instead of the present.
That’s precisely what I thought when it came out.
Aye, but it's only been dismissed and overlooked because of the brilliance of Giant's catalogue. If it came out today, it would be revolutionary by current standards.
So glad to see Civilian getting some love. It's about time!
I've been listening to Gentle Giant for more than 20 years and I just heard Civilian in full for the first time last week... WHY do people hate on this album? It's solid from beginning to end.
@@BarrelShape I think it's great too. Let's just tune out what the haters think / say. They obviously don't have good tastes.
Great song from the very underrated Civilian album. Gentle Giant is high end quality and awesome timeless music.
Perfect for me since Civilian is the only GG album I need to complete my vinyl collection. Thank you!!! Very apropos to release this at this time as well, the concept and message is needed now more than ever. Things have gotten very Orwellian to say the least.
i still play cogs in cogs for my students. and always their minds are blown. saw you guys at least 10 times from 72-75, live shows were amazing.
Haha! That's awesome! I saw them a bunch in the 70s too. The best was seeing them at the Roxy in Hollywood. Small club. John Weathers hit the kick so hard I swear it was moving. I thought it was gonna fall off the band stand!
Civilian was criminally neglected in 1980. What a band!!!
greatest band in the world
Gentle Giant shouldn't have stopped here. What a magical song.
This sounds so modern. And even futuristic. 42 years later. A tremendous achievement in music production.
52 ans après, vous voulez dire!!!
Ils sont intemporels!!
@@omarbensalaad2482 oui bien sûr, mais je pensais à cet album particulier de 1980
Gentle Giant is giant music and I love them since the early 70s
Really strong visual concept that really adds to the melancholy vibe of this song, thanks for your hard work Noah!
I've never heard this before and I absolutely love it! What an awesome track!
Yoo!! Big Gentle Giant Fan.
I am now haunted by this song, it's beautiful and sad and it's just so well written
Once you taste gentle giant you can never get enough!!!
What a wonderful song
The angst and the melancholy of depression, alienation and madness caused by modern times. One of the best tracks from their swansong album.
Goosebumps...just goosebumps.
Even Yes would do such a piece
Plus de 50 ans après, ils sont intemporels! ✨💫🌙✨💫⚡️🌟⭐️🪐
RÉAL MUSIC!!!
I used to not like Civilian AT ALL, but it's grown on me more and more over time. This song in particular is one of the best cuts from that record. Nothing beats their classics, but hey, I think Gentle Giant's 80's output beyond Civilian would've been splendid!
The video to go with this is one of the best i've ever seen, it really is. And the track, is the ultimate in greatness
It's interesting to listen to this now and to (somewhat) remember following the band back in the '70s. Civilian was a album that was transitioning into the next chapter of GG that we never got to hear. I think that's what the fans are seeking. Oh well, great song, isn't it?
Indeed, it's magic!!
Civilian is an underrated masterpiece. It's my most played GG album currently which is strange. I love it!
Love the futuristic visual interpretation of this GG song. Remember picking this out as my fave song from Civilian, when I first heard it back in mid 80's. The last GG LP I bought after buying all the studio albums in the 70's, it does sound better than I remember. Civilian is a strong album, and a good one to go out on for those boys in the band.
RIP Ray. my favorite bass player of all time.
Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
Been a GG fan ever since that first live show at the Woolman Rink, in New York's Central Park(1976, Starcastle opened up), until my last show in 1980 at Asbury Park's Fast Lane club. Short but sweet ride. Inside Out has always been a fav.
Thanks guys.. I've been a fan since 1978.. cheers from Wisconsin..
mee too, since 1972. And I still love them...
Video is insanely good.
Interesting seeing new videos coming out of a band from the 70’s, Good stuff
my favorite gentle giant song since the release of civilian. bought the vinyl lp that day and have loved it ever since. damn the critics
The band was making not only music but every song was a piece of art ! Unlike most of the other bands back then
This terrific animation draws this more than 40 year old song into this present day and age, obviously proving GG's music to be timeless. A splendid job, gentlemen!
So satisfying to see this song get such great video treatment. Great job, Noah. (Loved the ending into credits, too...)
I've loved this song ever since I discovered the Civilian album. The concept in this video adds another layer of richness to music that I consider amongst the highest artistic achievements of the last century.
I don't care what the prog rock snobs say, this album is fucking GREAT! I LOVE Derek's voice! I always will. I never owned the vinyl when it came out in 1980. I bought the cassette & rocked it in my car. I thought it was GREAT then & I still do! Thanx GG for releasing this again on CD in 2022. I'm buying it! GG fan for LIFE!
Really dig this song, get a strong Men at Work vibe from it.
One of the best tracks on the album.
Sure, this isn't anything like your classic Gentle Giant anymore. But damn does that chorus hit hard! Wonderfully done!
Gentle Giant sempre muito atual, uma banda além do seu tempo. Saudações do Brazil.
GENTLE GIANT's KASHMIRE!!!! LOL Great Animation too DAMN!!!!! Love that song!!!! It should have got them a HIT! finally DAMNIT!
Wow...quite Awesome!!!
I love GG and this was a great reminder of their very last concert which I was grateful to be at in LA @ The Roxy
I saw them at the Roxy too! (but not the final tour). John Weathers hit the kick drum so hard I swear it was moving. I thought it was gonna fall off the band stand!
@@rubberchicken5670 To read my entire experience at their last show go to their website...in hindsight I had no idea when a few of us went backstage it was The Last Show...
Crazy...I love the serendipity of Providence!
Love the hypnotic energy of this song since ever! Noah's work (congrats from my side!) enhances the song's power; some kind of a visual extension. Magic!
Fantastic track! I remember this song being the one that convinced me to give the final two albums an honest effort... and well worth it as those last two albums still contain loads of quality material!
Missed the chat but have to say that Gentle Giant has been my favorite band since I first saw them in Frankfurt, Germany in 1972. They opened for Jethro Tull, their first song was ALUCARD and my mind was permanently BLOWN!
Alike you I'm into GG since the early seventies. Saw them in Basle Nov. 75 and they blew me away! Best live concert I ever saw since 47 years now!
I saw the same tour in Italy... I was 17.
CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED
Fantástica banda!! Tal vez la más original e inconfundible del rock progresivo. Mi saludo y admiración desde Uruguay.
This was the 1st GG album I heard, bought it about 2 months after it came out and I rate in my all time top 10 probably top 5, love every song I can listen to it over & over again and never get tired of it.
Great job Noah and Trey!
As a Giant fan since 'Octopus', I am one of the minority that enjoyed this album immensely.
We're a pretty sizable minority, IMHO. :)
Octopus is amazing. So is Civilian. Just different. I loved it in 1980 & still do. My GG fan friends from the 70s love it too. Cheer up, Little Buckaroo. You're not alone. LOL.
Great song from an underated album
My favorite band from early seventies. This song is a great tune and i will buy a new civilian vinyl album.🙂
First I heard of GG was last week... I'm a prog-novice... thx for the vid...
That's OK they there's a lot of people who are being introduced by this great band. During the early '70s, listening to the LA radio stations (and a good one on Santa Barbara - the one with Lee Michael's brother) I didn't hear a lot of GG on the radio.
welcome aboard. There's a lot of Giant steps leading up to this swan song; enjoy the ride. :)
Enjoy the rabbit hole, they’re probably my favorite band, I found them a little over a year ago. Three Friends, Acquiring The Taste, The Power And The Glory and Free Hand are all must hears. The Advent Of Panurge is my favorite song
@@EgotisticalObserver -- Advent of Panurge was my gateway to Giant. I bought the Octopus album almost on a whim (partially based on some ad copy on an LP innersleeve... which shows you how ancient I am ;) ); by the end of that first track I was sold, and have been a fan for almost 50 years now.
Wow! A first timer. You're in for an amazing treat when you dive into their back catalog. Gentle Giant is LIFE!
god damnit gentle giant make a new album like this its so fuckin cool aaaaah
Well, it's a "new album" from 1980 ..
Excellent song. I got the first two albums. Now I understand I got to get all of them.
Great Song & Sound 🎸🎹😎🌠🔥🌈👋
Wonderful. Thanks, Noah! (And the BitB, too, of course.)
I saw GG at the Arlington in Santa Barbara on July 16th, 1976. Interview tour. We were surfers and it was my first big concert/surf trip. After surfing Ventura Fairgrounds, we ate LSD and went to the Park a few blocks from the venue and waited. We were pretty lit for the show and enjoyed it immensely. We were all musicians and loved all the progressive and fusion bands of the era. What a trip that was. Just turned 65 and not ONE flashback :)
I first heard Gentle Giant on an FM station in the summer of '71. The Pittsburgh station had "Acquiring the Taste' (still my favorite - but it was my introduction) and "Tarkus" in constant rotation. I saw these guys about a dozen times, usually at the Bottom Line (NYC) and/or the Paradise (Boston). But when I saw them at Avery Fisher Hall in '77, I thought that they were on to the big tome. I miss these guys!
civilian may be a weak album, but this song carries it on it’s shoulders
My fav GG records: Acquiring The Taste, Three Friends, Octopus, Free Hand, and Civilian. Yes I know it doesn't make sense. It is what it is.
My Favorite track from this album, the visuals were superb.. thank you Noah and Trey! ❤
DOUBLE G GREATNESS !
Great song!!
Whoa! When did this video come out???
Amazing song. Outstanding video! I bought this Civilian album in Tucson in 1980 used in a record store. Still have the album. The album had "for demo use only" on the cover - maybe for the local FM Radio stations at the time.
I Love this song.
Derek brilhant. ❤
Always amazing.
C'est d'une incroyable modernité ... l'album aurait pu être enregistré aujourd'hui !
Simplement génial ce voyage là !
This one of my favorite songs ever, the best on Civilian. Great video Noah!
unbelievable
Beautiful
You should hear this tripping while peaking 👍
What a great song
my favorite song on the album!
There's So much Power in this song.
Bravo Noah!
Brabo dmssss gigante gentil caralhooo
Brilliant clip, and it made me think it's time to go back and listen to Civilian again…
As an old fan, this is amazing! Thank You!
great song, great album. Highly rated by DS, as it should be, yet lots of fans said at the time they didnt rate it!
Fantastic!
they were nerver underrated, but only few people knew...
amazing!

Xapei meu garotinho!
Huge
Great music, as always!
i've been waiting for this one. over the years this has become one of my favorite GG songs.
Was the first I ever heard and that made me fall absolutely in love with GG. It’s still a favourite to this day.
same!
Nice,and Cool...Masters ! ..
Un sujet assez spacial !
OUTSTANDING! Love the new take on this!
