- Wonderful version of this fantastic song by Nils Lofgren with an amazing guitar solo.
Lyrics:
Once I thought I saw you in a crowded hazy bar,
Dancing on the light from star to star.
Far across the moonbeam I know thats who you are,
I saw your brown eyes turning once to fire.
You are like a hurricane
Theres calm in your eye.
And Im gettin blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but Im getting blown away.
I am just a dreamer, but you are just a dream,
You could have been anyone to me.
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip.
You are like a hurricane
Theres calm in your eye.
And Im gettin blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but Im getting blown away.
You are just a dreamer, and I am just a dream.
You could have been anyone to me.
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip.
You are like a hurricane
Theres calm in your eye.
And Im gettin blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but Im getting blown away. - Видеоклипы
The most underated singer, guitarist, composer in the world.I have all his records, tapes,Cds as well.I'm amazed he has never had the acclaim he deserves
Saw him a long time ago in the "Rockpalast" TV and Radio combined show. Absolutely swept me away! That man is way more than just underrated. He is one of the very little number of masters of Rock!
He used to play at a small venue in Leeds UK in the 70's, and saw him a couple of times there. He IS Sooo underrated, not only a great singer, guitarist and performer, but also as a Gymnast..... Seeing him play whilst doing a flip onto stage off a trampette was amazing.
He was on Mel’s Rockpile from SCTV. Was fantastic.
If he was not awesome he would not play with Bruce. Every musician playing in the E-Street Band is a real master. And Nils made lots of nice albums. And he created his own style of playing guitar. Even his acoustic guitar solo is special. Nils' style of phrasing and bending. Somewhere between spanish style, jazz and blues. Great - and unique
Yes-and in addition not many got to play with Crazy Horse! Playing with the E Street Band is however the greatest a rock and roll musician can aspire to and achieve. Bruce only takes the best there are! And then sticks with them-promoting and nurturing them!
A great example of Lofgren's style on electric is his cover of For Your Love on Cry Tough
NIs' version is as fabulous as Neil's - both superb. The guitar work on this one shows what a real master Nils is - thank you both
What a legend - shows a rare talent with top class professionism. Have followed Nils since he appeared in Neil Young's Berlin 1982 live performance. He is one of those rare musicians who deserve more recognition than he has received.
agree 200%
This is what makes him such a cool star...he does not need the attention to shine!
Saw him play for free in the 60s Around D.C.
He formed the band grin in 68 and met neil young while young played at dc's the cellar door. He played on youngs after the gold rush and had a long relationship with neil. I have never figured why he has never made it big on his own. Grins first 4 albums were great, but hr supplemented young, Springsteen , and crazy horse. A great career for sure , i guess writing , radio play , and studio push makes stars. Niks is and has always been crazy talented.
When I was sophomore in high school some 44 years ago now, a friend played the Grin album for me and I heard the song Like Rain and almost cried it was so beautiful. I wore a picture of Nils that I had made into a button on my jean jacket. This was before his solo album. Springsteen was also one of my favorites (saw him in concert before Born to Run made him "famous"). And, finally, I played this song by Neil in college over and over and over. When I learned to play guitar in high school and college, Nils, Bruce and Neil (and Jesse Colin Young) were among my very favorite artists. Enjoy your youth, young ones, time is fleeting.
I never thought Nls got enough credit. Always felt his playing was amazing and love his voice too. Great performer.
is this the best song ever? i think so!
+Charlotte Adams
Yes, I guess You're right!
I am enthralled with it.
@Charles McCarron Hi Charles, I cannot seem to find the link to the version you mention -- might you be able to share it? Thank you! Robert
He has a great voice and is one the best guitar players in the world
Genius in his moment. For a minute of his skills you would give a lifetime.
What a beautiful quote.
You bet! More than great!
He is the greatest. For real. Just a dream. Nils Lofgreen. I am proud to have seen him in Essen-Germany.
I love so much Nils....you have touched my heart. Jon
Nils is one of my all time favs. I wish he was one of my next door neighbors! Very spiritual. I could listen to him all day long.
Nils Lofgren is a hurricane. His sounds can hardly keep him grounded. His music elevates you then surrounds you to soothe your soul. only to bring it back to the eye of the calm.
My goodness. This man is a genius. Have been following Nils for years. Amazing
That little touch of "something extra" in the solo piece is called pinch harmonics. Nils (along with Robbie Robertson and Eric Clapton) is a true master of the style, which can be heard throughout his career. His solo stuff just has so much more variety than his collaborative work with others. If I had to name the 5 best living guitarists, Nils would probably be on that list. Many thanks for this, and all of Nils' contributions.
I know of no other artist that can incorporate pinch harmonics within a blistering fast guitar riff as Lofgren does. Including both of the masters you cited.
Such a great Neil Young song - such a great cover by Nils Lofgren!
agree on both.
You mean Bob Dylan
@@rufuspearce9378 "Like a Hurricane" is a song written by Neil Young in 1975 and first released on the album American Stars 'n Bars in 1977.
I have been a REAL rock junkie since I was a kid and my idea of jamming is listening to good music that gets inside.. the way the old stuff does. Today's music doesn't have that. One of my favorites is Firefall ✌️
Always thought Nils was far more than a boost to Springsteen's E Street Band. Glad I got to see him starring with his own band and really showcasing what he can do.
Can't believe 23 people did not like this wonderful version!!
Nils is a great guitar player. I long time ago I saw him play at the "Pinkpop" festival somerwhere in the seventies. I have been a fan since then. I still like the sound of his voice and guitar. They are still both worth entioning!!!!!
Je l'ai vu plusieurs fois en concert, des fois sur son trampoline, mais toujours magnifique
+Jean-Charles Eischen trampoline..j'veux voir ca. Salut de MTL.
What an awesome version of this Neil Young classic. I am ashamed to say that I hadn't heard of this obviously very talented Nils Lofgren until now. A friend told me to check him out and I am so pleased that he did. Thanks for the upload, superb!
MrBlueSky474 better late than never
Rip Van Winkle springs to mind dude!
Will always love this great guitarist and songwriter. Had the pleasure of seeing him in the UK.Hammersmith Odeon rocked that night.
Love Nils! Feel sorry for those that never listened to his music. A friend of mine turned me on to "Too Many Miles," "Keith Don't Go," and "Big Tears Fall," (about the kids that were killed in Sandy Hook mass shooting) ! He's the real deal, nobody like him. In my mid 60's.✌💥💫
I couldnt believe his electric guitar abilities. He is really, really good. I love this too.
I've been noticing on "signature" songs where the best of the best record their interpretation.....THAT THIS ONE, this Nils guy, MORE THAN DOING his own "ELECTRIFYING PIECE WITH HIS STRAT" he sneaks in withe the acoustic- Paul Rodgers asked him to do some hard rockers -acoustic! We have known him as a top ten electric guitarist in every category, unique style, tones,
twists and turns in his interpretations, speed-never abused but on tap- do not mess with him, unless your name was a healthy Glen Campbell. Let's face it, from a weaker hand, that happens in life, he had to go with Springsteen, just no comment. SO!!!
what a great call to make your mark acoustically as always his voice matches the tone of the guitar. Out of the blue I t am thinking of a duo on this particular song and that would be the getting older Jose Feliciano- I know some of his are over the top,
but his Thrill is gone, and for some reason HURRICANE X2 would be forever. It has been 43 years since my privilege seeing you at Georgetown Mr. Lofgren, because of Grin I was able to hold on to sanity as it appeared that it was Dicky Betts pickin to drive me to the dark side. A rotten peach.
Nils playing his guitar sounds like ....... an endless journey of a butterfly above a hurricane
An unexpected delight, meaningful heart felt lyrics , and musicly excellant.
Nice.
Fantastic
Combines y love for both artists
Oh I wish I could play guitar like this
Thanks to my friend who introduced me to Nils’ Shine Silently and since then….I’m continually impressed by his talent and musicianship.
I’ll have to check this whole lp out.. just saw Bruce last month and it was awesome!! and he and Neil are my 2 favorite artists .. this version is poignant , clean, emotive and fantastic.. , one of the most underrated musicians/ artists ever ( live Steven stills)!he ‘lets’ Bruce do almost all of the solos and he’s twice the guitarist
Great acoustic cover! And thanks, Neil, for a masterpiece.
This is my go to version when I need to listen to this song...
Very different but also amazing he's so very underrated.
Beautiful beautiful emotional solo. Neil and Nils really can blow you away in each their manor
Thanks for an incomparable treat LucasRoy49. Stuff this good I tend to listen to for hours at a time on repeat. If the entire album is worthy, then I might listen to nothing else for a weeks, so I can play them in my mind at will. (Led Zeppelin, Santana) I somehow lost my music file for this one, have been playing it in my head all morning, but always had trouble around 5:31 to 5:58, so had to brush up. :-D
This arrangement is incredible, so to hear people comparing it to Neil Young makes me wanna listen to *more* than the one, faster tempo version of Neil's I have heard. What a treat that would be for me to find comparable acoustical and vocal excellence. For me, this blows the Neil Young version that I heard away like a hurricane, but I am gonna go listen to some more right now!...well, after I listen to this again...
Nils is a class act that most people don't know about. I do and all listening know. I am sorry only 189 grand know this!!!!!
Doesn't just cover it, immerses himself it, makes it his own, brilliant
I've met Nils in manchester.really nice man.
Superb rocker..
Listening to this for the first time, I realy don't know which version I love better. Neil's or Nils'
Came here for the song's title. Stayed here for the magestically beautiful music.
As good as Neil. Dare I say it? Maybe better! I love it......There, I said it.
you dare .....but neil is epic in his own way, veryone knows that aswell, so its ok.
neil young kept him (nils) around for a while, and thats a thing in its self.
Well-perhaps with mored nuance and consideration,as well as such fine guitar work. On the other hand-Neil Young brought more power and barbed wire into the song! Both are outstanding-heroes!
First rock concert I attended was Grin at the then new Kennedy Center in DC late 70 or early 71. Went to the Grin farewell concert there maybe '74.
Nils Lofgren: great singer and an extraordinary guitar player. Marvelous song!
Nils Lofgren - Like a hurricane -
Who are the 6 dipshits who don't like this? Nils is a fine guitar player and he has a very mellow singing style that goes well with his guitar playing.
18, now...
nils load,s of confidence bags more talent he,s owning this make a grown man cry dare i say far above dylon ok i said it now
24 dipshits now but hey, it took three years. I think that says a lot.
wow, expecting neil young to play something like this on his unplugged album, maybe nils shudve been there, watta player,he s given the song a lotta respect n soul, well done mate, love it.
Nils played guitar and piano on Neils Masterpiece After the Gold Rush as a teenager. Watch Neils Like A hurricane in berlin Nils is playing organ other songs he is playing guitar they are great vids. How amazing is it that nils has played for years with both Neil and Bruce Springstein, 2 of the best ever what a great career!!!!!!
Also he goes into the rock and roll hall of fame this year as a member of The E Street Band
Never really knew of him before a few years ago although I really enjoyed Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Spingsteen during their heydays. Really enjoying him now. Better late than never.
What a truly great version of this song! What's just as remarkable is that it doesn't override the source material with virtuosity, but instead digs deep and reveals with simplicity and clearly etched lines just how great this song always was. Lofgren is like an archeologist uncovering a temple buried beneath the words. Those refrains right at the end seem especially hair raising to me, as he confronts you with and makes you FEEL the song's central image, the "hurricane" of "calm."
wow, what a song, what a solo, fantastic.
Just lovely, keep on rocking Nils. Saw you at St Albans, still got it mate.
I never get tired of hearing this. Awesome guitar player.
Nils, I drove my parents crazy playing your piano part on Southern Man, summer, 1971.
This is absolutely amazing! Nils is so fucking amazing, and I got the chance to meet him in Oslo yesterday. Ah, I love this guy.
Best cover of this song I ever heard Nils. Thanks. Grew up on it, dreaming of my star. Now in a place where "the feeling stays." Found the star. Was so worth dreaming on this door step, watching the night shadows enveloping the hills. You brought back the magic. Am sure many others can understand.
It's excellent. Bryan Ferry used to do it live in his act, and very, very well, too!
My dog ran away from the room when the guitar solo started. It was very... moving. :D
This song is so Amazing 😊
I remember stealing Cry Tough from my sisters boyfriend when he left a copy at our place back after they
broke up around '78. I didn't encourage a reconciliation but saved up for the back catalogue.
I was only 13 but loved that cut. Been a huge fan ever since.
Nils you are pure class. Keep keeping it great.
This is what happens when you don't have enough money to promote yourself. This guy is really excelent.
Great version of one of my favourite songs! Thanks for posting!
Nice! I always loved Nils and his music. Got them all.
Like Keith said to Brian, listening to Robert Johnson, "Who's the other guitarist?"
Absolutely great acoustic guitar solo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An absolutely underrated piece of music.
does anybody know what version this is? I have it on CD but it's only the 3-4 min version and not the extended version like here. where can i find a high quality version of this to buy?
Nils is the MAN !!!
Back when
The Shot premiered
At QHS high school
Thx!
Best rehearsal ever
provoking question- You have to BET!! no hedging- Has Nils learned more from Springsteen, or Springsteen from Nils !! I say it ,may not be close- Springsteen from Nils. That Nils was one of the greatest trades of ALL TIME!!
Nils don't need Springsteen, Neil Young or anyone else He was already a legend before they were.
+ Shari Myerson: ...but their alchemy has given the world wonderful music. They are all unsurpassed masters of their craft.
Thanx for stating that Shari. So much came from the masters plying their craft on the same stage.
I'm as big a Nils fan as you'll find, but your statement isn't true. Neil describes Nils as a 17-year-old kid who snuck backstage and begged him for an audition, "Hey, I can play!". Not too many "legends" have to do that. Just sayin'.
Well no, nils had formed grin in 68 , couldn't get a record deal . Nils met neil while neil was playing at the cellar door in d.c. neil invited nils to play on after the gold rush in 70. After that he helped nils get a record deal for grin. He was a on again off again for crazy horse then joined Springsteen in 84 i believe. Very talented man.
Took a friend from Wales to see him at the Rainbow, Finsbury Park, had a couple of beers and on the way home to the Palace got a pull in Trafalgar Square and took off into a roadblock right outside Cannon Row nick and arrested at gunpoint. Spent the night in the nick with my pal explaining that the henna he had bought for his misses was not contraband. He never seemed keen to come out to play with me again...happy days !! oh, Nils was great, bouncing all over the place. A hard gig to forget...
It seems there are two types of people in the world, those that never heard Nils and those who think he is among the all time greats as a singer, songwriter and particularly guitar player. Been a big fan for over 4 decades but can never find Nils tab. They can tab Hendrix, I just don't think they tab Nils easily, if at all. Of course, it could be financial barriers but I don't think that is the whole story.
How do you notate all the subtle touches and tones on every note?
My ears are not that good. I know, bad excuse. If anyone has their hands on Nils tab or, at the least, accurate chord/ riff charts, share it!
Great man and great musician. .
Yes like the Keith don't go song
A wonderful Version of a great Song !
Beautiful......................
Beautiful Nils.
First date....as a hurricane was rolling in to Princeton. The guitar solo reminds me of the countless text messages we traded over the next few weeks. Passion and fire, love the way Nils rips into that guitar. You get the idea.
no real guitar fireworks on this album but still great.....vocal on this are absolutely haunting.
Your Kidding right > 🙂
One special talent, one amazing human being.
Don't compare Nils n Neil each one had style n talented.
What's the superlative of "Perfect"?
It's here... in this song...
Wonderfull...what a solo!
Beautiful voice, it's so clear, forget your modern guitarists, this is better
superb......best cover ever of Like a hurricane
Just a great soulful song, vivi neils.
great CD
First class.
so great love u nils
Yes, this is a fantastic performance, and thank you for sharing this video. A few years ago Nils was invited to the stage at Merriweather Post Pavilion (or Wolf Trap?) by Carlos Santana to play a solo.... he scorched, ignited, and otherwise smoldered. I got a strong sense that 98% of the audience had NO idea what was going to come out of Nils' guitar..... I was one of 'em :) Much awe-inspiration in Nils' talent and yet so understated.
Used to see Grin play free around DC, in the 60s, saw the Who at Meriweather, around 1970, ahh the days.
Yes - wonderful !!!
Wow. That's all - just wow.
Questa versione è semplicemente magnifica
Wow what a voice! awesome!
This GREATin its own right, but too many nights I've listened to Neil pound this out and I think there is no comparison. Where is the dueling electric guitar version with Nils and Neil?
Gorgeous, thanks for posting x
always a respected guitarist, he covers Neil really well. I just learned of this record( unless I forgot about it back in the day),so I'll be here a while .I'm one of those who gets Neil Young .Neil isn't able to carry Nil's pick, but Nils proves what a giant Neil truly is when it comes to writing songs.
Cover of Neil Young ~ Nils is a great singer.🎶🎸🎧
Is there a more soulful guitarist alive?
+BLUZ PWR no, it's neil young
No:-)
I think Jose Feliciano when he settles down can play this as well but differently. They each have a "you can't guess my next notes. cause I have not even thought that far yet. And I think the few masters just have the guitar ib-nside of them that they may not n=know the next phrase--- BUT there are parts so sensitive and golden that guitar sounds like a harp- the stand up kind. This is what Bruce and knopfler will never have a taste of- also I have always said Nils voice matches his instrument, as well as Jose when he is being a good boy. Try "Light my fire" Jose F at Daryl Hall's place- perhaps the best version since the original. He gives a lesson to everyone,
Whoa, i just realized this isn't the version on the album i bought...where did this come from....!?
love this guy brilliant guitarplayer ! and halfswede : ) GUY sweden
Gold for my ears;-)))
Thanks for posting !!! 1st Class
best regards Steve in York.
Exquisite interpretation.
