I still remember when I started following the Red Ball speedrun scene back in early 2020, back when barely any runners were actively playing the game, sub 5 17 Levels hadn't happened yet, and sub 20 train wasn't even thought to be RTA viable. It's so cool to see how far this community has come since then, and I am really impressed to see sub 4 finally being a thing after all this time. TAS is a 3:28, so that’s the theoretical limit. A sub 3:50 is possible, but it would likely be harder than getting a sub 2:30 in 12 Levels, which we aren’t even close to.
They glitch the game, so it thinks each spike is in two different places at once. You only die if you overlap with both versions. This is what the quick pause at the end of level 1 is for. Watch Maximum's history of red ball speedrunning for the full details of why this works.
Thanks! I actually have numpad 0 and decimal rebound to w and d. Since the keys are right next to each other, it makes it easier to hit them together on the same frame, which is required for smb11.
