Art Blakey's 'Moanin'' was my introduction to Jazz....and what an introduction it was! Just incredible!

Yes, I saw them in NYC at the Bottom Line , circa 1979, Blakey would seem to go into this zone to where his eyes would roll to the back of his head, and he was groovin so hard, it felt like he was having a outer body thing going, which was Great.

I wasn’t aware of this genius music! Thanks to the internet I’ve came across it and it enriched my entire life. I practice the piano every day thanks to these kind of musicians. They really inspire me to make something worthwhile of my life !

Freshness, passion, skill: so great! Everything that makes jazz. What has become of it in the last few years? A lot of things have become so boring. Few personalities and many people. Sad.

Back in the day, I would tune in to WJZZ Detroit (across the street from my office) to in-joy Art Blakey & Jazz Messengers ❤🎶❤

Came across Winton Marsalis from a History of Jazz Documentary. The way he narrated that Doc gave so much justice to Jazz that I knew listening to the brother play would be something spectacular.

Branford on alto?!?! Wow this is great stuff. And let's hear it for Charles Fambrough just killin it behind the soloists! Very nice.

Branford looked like e didn't appreciate how Donald Brown was noodling over top of him for just about all of his solo. Never heard anyone do that to him, before.

Sounded much better here than on his Monette. (Sound wise).

Donald Harrison is a alto player who was in the Messengers with Terrence Blanchard. Billy Pierce is on tenor and Donald Brown on piano. Great lineup but didn't hear much from Brown after the Messengers.
