Awesome! Good luck out there. It has been tough, but if you catch one, slow down and there will be a few more in the area. Anywhere in the 8-12ft range around laydowns in the painters creek arm. A bluegill colored jig has produced some decent fish in the last couple weeks.
It can be a tough lake but has got good ones. Depending on the time of year will determine how I would approach it, and your style of course. But I enjoy fishing offshore, June, July, and August. But there is always fish up shallow, so if you choose the shallow game, stick close to where the creek channels come up and hit the bank or get close to it. Flippin, buzzbaitin, etc. Find the stained water . If the grass is coming in good, check the mainlake grass lines, sometimes the inside grass line will hold the bigger fish. If the water is clear then chase the wind. Try and fish areas that have a little wind blowing on them. But I wouldn’t run very far, as all the tournaments go out of the main ramp, so all the bass are released in the same general area. Good luck and tight lines
The fall bite normally get better as we get closer to Halloween. The smallmouth bass will start feeding on the mainlake points and the Largemouth will be moving in to the creek arms feeding in baitfish. What this means to me is TOPWATER TIME!
It depends, I almost always peg it if I’m fishing heavy cover. I feel it keeps me from getting hung as often. If I’m fishing grass I often will not peg it, this will give the soft plastic a more natural weightless action when the weight slides freely on the line while pulling through the vegetation.
I appreciate the info!...Patoka Lake is a true gem :)
Nice vid. Headed to fish patoka next weekend!
