    I planted several Red Yucca, also known as Hesperaloe parviflora, from seed. This was a fall planting with no stratification of the seeds. I did get germination so check out the video!

    thank you for this video; i was sitting in a drive thru trying to buy a burrito and i spotted one of these by the curb with ripe dry split-open seed pods and had the sudden urge to jump out and grab some, so now I have these seeds and no idea what to do with them - I guess 'try to germinate them' is the answer lol

      That’s funny. I saw one at arbys and I was eyeballing the seeds like “I want one!”

      My friend literally did this exact thing in a drive through. She had so many she gave me a ton, and it barely made a dent in what she had lol! Now I'm researching 🧐

      @@ladylove34 Good luck! I got some to germinate but had to scrap them in a move before I could establish them in the ground. I should try again now =)

    I live in tx..son in law got me some green pods of a plant by his work.I kept them outside in a folders coffee container...it took a couple weeks, but the pods turned brown.I brought them in and broke open the pods..Black seeds !.I have a bag of potting soil and saved a store bought lettuce container with a lid.I put the potting soil about half way up in the container, wetting it as I wax adding soil..made it moist but not muddy.Took some of the seeds and put them on the soil,pu some soil on top,,gave it a bit if water and put the lid on.I put some little holes in the bottom of the container and a couple on the lid..put the whole thing in a plastic bowl I use for leftovers. I have it outside in direct sun but I'm going to put it on the table by my front door so it won't be in direct sun but still warm..first time doing this..fingers crossed !

      typically its best to let the seeds ripen on the plant or tree. With these the pod turns brown and cracks open. The seeds will be black when fully ripened so they may work. If they don't, just collect some later in the year when they are ripe. Good Luck!!

    I'm giving Hesperaloe parviflora seeds to a few fellow gardeners who have no experience with this plant, so will be interested to see what you may add onto this video in the near future! I'll give them links to your video, too, so they can check for themselves! (I may have to try growing some for myself! (The plants that I have were started from seed by my next-door neighbor.) Thank You for the video! 'Be seein' ya!"

    Whats proper technique for getting mature seeds in the pod. Do you pick the pod while green or do you let it turn brown? Do you leave it on the plant until mature, or do you cut the pod off and then allow it to age before cracking open the seeds?

      i was in wyoming and picked some semi brown and green pods off and they were all nasty brown banana looking not long after and when they dried they were super dry and 1 split by itself, my seeds didnt grow but i may have overwatered, but theres so many seeds it doesnt matter

    • @2qlrn273

      With most plants, the best way to make sure their seeds are done growing & drying (viable) is to wait until the seeds are dry & loose. When they have pods that hold the seeds, wait until those pods at least start cracking open, but I prefer to wait until the pod & the stem they are on are both brown & dry as well.

    What was the approx soil temp where the seeds germinated. I understand that what gets the whole germination process started

    • @GrowNewPlants
      @GrowNewPlants  4 года назад +2

      Not positive , Im guessing over 70 fahrenheit, the weather cooled off after I planted them and it took a while before the temp reached 70 which slowed them down some, will do in greenhouse next spring which will help keep temps warmer
