by Bob Boilen
Our South X Lullaby with Soccer Mommy took us away from the frenetic world of the South by Southwest music festival and into the past. We ventured to my favorite store in all of Austin, Texas: Uncommon Objects, a self-described "one-of-a-kind emporium of transcendent junk" or "your eccentric uncle's attic on steroids."
There are 24 different antique sellers under the single, Uncommon Objects roof, and for Sophie Allison, aka Soccer Mommy, we found the perfect setting for her song "Wildflowers." It was, in fact, filled with objects related to blooming flowers.
The song from the Switzerland-born, Nashville-raised artist is, as I hear it, about finding your place in the world - to discover who you are and to blossom.
"Wildflowers don't grow in the city
I dreamt the sidewalk broke in two
The earth was calling to me"
The song is from Soccer Mommy's album Clean which was released earlier this month on Fat Possum.

By far, one of my favorite musicians these days. I love the genuine emotion in her music.
I had come back and watch this again. She's incredible and an inspiration to me. I need to use her techniques more in my playing.
This is the metaphoric, melancholic, subliminally beautiful kind of 2 AM music I’ve been looking for
damn i love this way more than the studio version
It's great that she's here, everyone should listen to her new LP Clean.
where can i borrow it ?
YES! next up is a Tiny Desk :D
Aside from the beauty of the performance, the recording quality is amazing--it sounds as if it were recorded in a studio. Josh Rogosin knows what he is doing!
her voice sounds like home
I freaking love her voice
I wish she could have been part of Boygenius, also. I don't know if she knows Phoebe, Julien, or Lucy, but it still would have been cool.
I have actually seen her on Phoebe's insta story
There's still time! They're all great in their own right anyway now right?
This is lovely. Saw Soccer Mommy open up for Jay Som on their last tour and she won me over. Love Uncommon Objects too.
Gorgeous🌻
my favorite musician, my favorite song, my favorite music video. transcending.
So beautiful can't wait to see you in Columbia, MD
She couldn’t have performed in a better suited environment for her voice and music!
Great song I like clean. Shout out Corner Music! - Native Nashvillian
Very cool. Ive been getting into the sleepy time girl singer genre lately. Thanks
Amazing. Sounds exactly like her digital recordings. This album would sound amazing on vinyl.
I mean.... this is still a digital recording
I mean... You know what I mean...
This should be the album version. Insanely good.
I hear 2 sounds on the guitar, amazing
It’s a weird tuning, a open of some type. I wonder if that’s what you’re hearing. The ringing open note.
the ever-elusive perfect song...
This kicks ass, gotta say it does
Uses alt-tunings, has unique song structures, and is from Nashville. You can’t get much more raw than that.
What a lovely voice.
Love the name!
how lovely!!
amazing❤️😍
Perfect
I love her
She seems sane for a soccer mom.
She believes in astrology tho lol
I’d hate to dust this room.
Love the girl the song the guitar the shop the wildflowers
beautiful. thx for this
Whenever I see sets like this I just think of people who have never left the metropolitan area of their city designing it thinking, "this must be how people in the middle of the country live, right?"
Those chords though!
This shit slap.
best comment tbh
finally!!! I need those chords 😍
Charmaine W best chords I've heard in an age
is this standard tuning? does anybody know? lol sounds slightly different
It's in an unusual Open A tuning (EAC#EAE)
Can anyone help me out with the chords? ✨✨✨
I can't figure out the chords she plays at the instrumental at 1:27 because of the camera angle >
I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO HEAR HER PLAY VERY LIVE ON A PARK BENCH ON A QUIET , CALM PEACEFUL NIGHT. OR AT THE END OF AN ALLEY FOR SOUND PURPOSES , THIS JUST DOESN'T SOUND LIVE TO ME NOT TRYING TO BE MEAN BUT SO MANY LIVE PERFORMANCES ON YT SOUND UN-LIVE LOL, PEACE !
can't figure out this strum pattern, can someone help me out?
Kat Ackerman the verses are basically downstrokes with a down-up-down at the end of each line. The chorus is essentially a down-down-down-up-down-up-down-down. You can figure it out if you, you just gotta listen for what beats she emphasizes with heavier downstrokes.
What guitar band ?
location, location, location
...
Has anyone been able to work out these chords?
Amanda Gerrity I think it's in an alternate tuning, which makes it a bit tricky.
Amanda Gerrity this is an old comment but the tuning is EAC#EAE.
As far as the chords go, if you tune your guitar to that it’ll be a hell of a lot easier to follow what she’s doing.
I can almost play most of it with regular tuning, but it hurts my hands. She uses a lot of different tuning. Def. easier with the alt. tuning She is great live.
I recently put up a tutorial for this song. I made a slight correction in the comments but it should be pretty close at least.
Its alright. Too bad every young female singer sounds exactly the same with that waaa waaa sound. Great guitar though for sure
