Hey there. Be 100% certain that when God renews the earth, you will dance on your feet. I will ask God now to make a note of your details, and you will receive an invite to a special gig performed by this band for the King of Kings. God bless you.
She sounds pristine, like glass. Watch the way she uses the mic - she's a musician who uses their voice like an instrument, not a tool. She's so on it as far as vocal control. It's awesome - in the full meaning of the word.
Michael O'Bryan I was wondering about that, the sound when she has the mic close to her mouth as in the 2nd song, isn't too much different from how it sounds during the 1st song when she's waving it around at waist height, just wondered how they did that. It's cool stuff anyway
i was wondering the same. there is two room mics in front of them that i imagine that engineers smashed with compression to pick up everything. that being said, she is still nailing her vocals. love it.
i believe her vocals are primarily mic'd by that room mic. the mic she's holding is connected to the laptop and ableton and whenever you hear her voice with delay or fx, it's because she was using that mic.
Brains are weird. I just woke up with the first song in my head after not having it heard for 5 years.. Absolutely love her voice, his compositions and the combination.
Soon after I discovered them, they came to play at Berghain, Berlin, as the support for Tune Yards. I had no ticket and the show was sold out. I was on my own but decided to queue up anyway. Looking around, wondering whether to give up or not, I started a conversation with the guys right next to me. They turned out to be musician friends of Sylvan Esso who had a spare guest list. It was such a great concert! I got to meet Amelia, holding her hand while gushing over how amazing she was/ they were. Such a dear memory!
See them live. They're so incredibly moving. Everybody dances. They look at you and love that you love it. They look at each other with love. It's sort of the best.

The Akai mostly is handling routing duties and midi parts, but it's not pre recorded audio loops.
Ok. No joke but That first song, "Coffee" is just top shelf. I find myself humming this song all the time and the only cure is to come back here and watch this set.

Some of it is preloaded, but he's controlling each section. As a dj, I know that what he is doing is kind of difficult. I hope people respect it.
And if he makes a little mistake the song crumbles like if you miss a chord on guitar? Nope. The beat goes on... Arranging tracks isn't the same as playing instruments live.
I always thought they were just friends but there was an article and the person who interviewed them said they got married in the summer of 2016. I think they just don't talk about it. It makes sense though since the album cover for What Now has them in wedding attire.
After 8 years this is still one of those songs we blast when we remember it. I was in my later- 20’s when this came out, our oldest kid who is 15 (with autism, not that it really matters) still remembers it and loves this song. Even though he was 7 when this came out, he tries to act all cool now (he’s 16 in 2 weeks), he still loves this song and loves to dance to it when he thinks I’m not noticing (bless his sweet, innocent heart). It brings back such a good memory of our middle child as a toddler dancing, as toddlers do, and me, having just given birth to our youngest who is almost 8. This song has traveled well with our little family. 💜
Not really the type of music I normally listen to, but I have watched this whole thing ten times over. I just love how comfortable they look performing together
The intimacy of that last song is astounding, and beautiful. She really immerses herself in the music and it makes her performance haunting in the best way. And his technique is such a perfect match to that, he keeps time with his whole body for the most part. Phenomenal musicians

She seems so bubbly as she dances around and just in conversation with those watching. I think it accents the music as the songs they played, even the slower one they finished on, are very upbeat and happy sounding.
These two are so unique i dont think anyone would ever dare attempt to bite their sound. She picks such random voice lines through songs its like trying to chase a top level fighter pilot through the clouds. Not even worth the effort. Rock On!

I stumbled across this sound on Pandora on the FKA twigs station and was just taken by her voice. Seeing her perform the songs takes it to a whole new level for me as a listener. I admire her vocal talent and like someone else said it is effortless. They are a good match for this sound. They are currently helping me navigate a stressful work day. I really like the fact that they look like people we could go drinking with or just chill with. Just the right amount of quirky!
Wow. They made this music, and it's amazing! To all fo you tearing it apart and dissecting it, WHO CARES if he's just triggering pre-recorded stuff?! They still made this music, and it still rocks!
At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this. I mean I knew they were talented, it just wasn't my kind of thing. And then I had it stuck in my head for like a week, and now months and months later I found myself needing to hear it again. I think I'm a fan!

I feel like Sylvan Esso is CRIMINALLY underrated

i bloody agree!!

Underrated doesn't mean not well known.

They're just the best.
Thankful for artists as authentic as them.
Her voice is simply beautiful. I think ive watched this hundreds of times. Cant help but smile the whole time. And this isnt the type of music i usually listen to
His beats are sick, her voice heals your pain, and they are too effing cute together.
why are you verified?
What he is doing is not "easy." He's doing this all in real time. Her voice is incredible. They are, together, more than incredible.
And I've met him. He's really freaking nice.
I haven't passed this way for a while but every time I do I have to 'Like' it all over again. Maybe it's love? Beautifully and beguilingly unique music and performance. Thank you NPR.
This will always be my favorite Tiny Desk.
She's the most Icelandic-looking American of all time.
I thought she looked like an Irish woman.
And yet, I feel like her facial expressions are sooooo Quebecois haha

Got Bjork genes & vibe lol
Bjork is definitely part of this equation + (Robert Smith - the lipstick)... i didn't know what to expect having JUST discovered them, but I'm living for this right meow
I always thought Sylvan Esso would be one of those bands that sings in English but only speaks Icelandic
That crushed! Like Titanic boats into an iceberg... in Iceland 😜
Haha I could completely see that.
Of Monsters and Men came to mind, but their English is all good.

get up get down, why is nobody following her commands!!
"Come down" the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on RUclips.. Molly so lucky to be seeing you in November..! X
I always wondered who this girl was and I could finally find out about her music, the right music to listen to after having such a busy day, thanks npr for making our lives better!
What a beautiful duo. I only wish I had discovered them sooner. I’m dying to see them live now!
I understand exactly what you mean mate.
Wow. They made this music, and it's amazing! To all fo you tearing it apart and dissecting it, WHO CARES if he's just triggering pre-recorded stuff?! They still made this music, and it still rocks!
It's like if olivia coleman had a daughter who instead of acting decided to be a full time shaman of music

How have I never heard of these two. They are Magic !!!
At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this. I mean I knew they were talented, it just wasn't my kind of thing. And then I had it stuck in my head for like a week, and now months and months later I found myself needing to hear it again. I think I'm a fan!
