    • @michaelobryan1968

      She sounds pristine, like glass. Watch the way she uses the mic - she's a musician who uses their voice like an instrument, not a tool. She's so on it as far as vocal control. It's awesome - in the full meaning of the word.

    • @michaelcoull8590

      Michael O'Bryan I was wondering about that, the sound when she has the mic close to her mouth as in the 2nd song, isn't too much different from how it sounds during the 1st song when she's waving it around at waist height, just wondered how they did that. It's cool stuff anyway

    • @DAPOOLPARTY
      @DAPOOLPARTY 8 лет назад +8

      i was wondering the same. there is two room mics in front of them that i imagine that engineers smashed with compression to pick up everything. that being said, she is still nailing her vocals. love it.

    • @exploringaudio1999
      @exploringaudio1999 8 лет назад +34

      i believe her vocals are primarily mic'd by that room mic. the mic she's holding is connected to the laptop and ableton and whenever you hear her voice with delay or fx, it's because she was using that mic.

    Soon after I discovered them, they came to play at Berghain, Berlin, as the support for Tune Yards. I had no ticket and the show was sold out. I was on my own but decided to queue up anyway. Looking around, wondering whether to give up or not, I started a conversation with the guys right next to me. They turned out to be musician friends of Sylvan Esso who had a spare guest list. It was such a great concert! I got to meet Amelia, holding her hand while gushing over how amazing she was/ they were. Such a dear memory!

    the fact that he is essentially producing each track on the spot live is incredible

    • @jamessssssssssssss
      @jamessssssssssssss 5 лет назад +42

      thats not really what he's doing. seems like he's mostly activating multiple premade loops at a time, and most of the knob twisting he's doing doesnt sound like its correlating with anything sonically. kind of pretending to do more to seem like he's not doing less. more than "just pressing play" but less than "producing on the spot" imo but hey its just the internet

    • @TylerBrainerd
      @TylerBrainerd 5 лет назад +56

      @@jamessssssssssssss You can read a lot of interviews about his setup. It's definitely not loops. He's triggering midi sequencing and looping live, not just triggering.

    • @jamessssssssssssss
      @jamessssssssssssss 5 лет назад +7

      @@TylerBrainerd I'm sure in actual production he does a lot more, but in this particular performance it doesn't really seem like he's doing too much outside of activating midi sequences , just speculating

    • @jamessssssssssssss
      @jamessssssssssssss 5 лет назад +1

      @@TylerBrainerd it's been nearly a year since I saw this video, but if memory serves me right, he hardly touches the keyboard and is mostly pushing buttons

    • @TylerBrainerd
      @TylerBrainerd 5 лет назад +25

      @@jamessssssssssssss he's using the keyboard as a sampler, not as a keyboard. The button pushing is what he's using to play through analog filters.
      it's essentially what Daft punk does too; every performance is different, from layering effects and parts, sections of songs, looping effects into each other. The Akai mostly is handling routing duties and midi parts, but it's not pre recorded audio loops.

    After 8 years this is still one of those songs we blast when we remember it. I was in my later- 20’s when this came out, our oldest kid who is 15 (with autism, not that it really matters) still remembers it and loves this song. Even though he was 7 when this came out, he tries to act all cool now (he’s 16 in 2 weeks), he still loves this song and loves to dance to it when he thinks I’m not noticing (bless his sweet, innocent heart). It brings back such a good memory of our middle child as a toddler dancing, as toddlers do, and me, having just given birth to our youngest who is almost 8. This song has traveled well with our little family. 💜

Why, if you are in a relatively close position to her, would you not be more supportive? There's nothing wrong with "contrived" if it's done well.

    I find new and exceptional artists from Tiny Desk. Thank you. Every time I go and listen to the studio album from these artists afterwards the studio album never comes close to how well these tiny desk concerts are recorded by the audio engineers. Also I feel that the artist are much more relaxed and can express how the songs emotions were meant to be expressed. How the artist felt the song originally, personally relating to something that is important to them. Glad I can share that experience.
