The Chill Picture You don’t know that, you aren’t involved in his personal life. I talk about comics and anime to my friends all the time, but never books, not unless they were super good. People are more likely to read manga and comics and are able to relate to it easier than most books. If you have seen his vlogs , he has talked about it before. No Longer Human is a legitimately incredible story, and I'm really happy to see such a large RUclipsr recommend it. It doesn't get nearly enough attention in the West, and hopefully some people decide to read it after watching this video.
Dude, ofc. It’s f8cking worth it making these vids. They’re awesome...for real. It’s very inspiring and influential too younger people like myself who aren’ t necessarily interested/engaged in litterateur. Keep up the good work dude. Btw. a nice book: Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts.

Dostoevsky can sometimes be boring and grim, but man, I enjoyed his works when I was younger, like The Idiot, Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov, and particularly The Possessed. He has a deep understanding of human psychology and the tragedies portrayed in his novels are in a way enjoyably comical. I find it ironic how I no longer read books and can barely watch anything longer than a sitcom.
@@buzzlightwork thats the point💀his motherhad a lot to say of what happened so its long asf. Pretty sure itll be as long as that (if not longer) in an irl setting at the time

Madmaniac 1. I'm always broke 2. Thanks to absentminded siblings my library card is maxed out with fines and 3. Pewds taste in books is unhealthy for me. I also find those kinds of books fascinating but more often than not they send me spiraling so I prefer fantasy where I can mentally escape.
NotATurkey dont know if you care but i really like to read books that can give you a better look in someones head. Even if it's really dark. A great writer can make it so dark but also so very realistic that sometimes it gets a bit too close. But im probably in the fase that goes like "im interested in the animal mind, human mind, how the earth works, how physics works, how the universe works." Its all just fascinating how everything works in this damn world. How this world is still functioning. I dont know but it's really fucking interesting.

Actually when I read No Longer Human I recall that Horiki left the room to get food from Oba's wife but then comes back to point to Oba that his wife is being molested by a neighbor shopkeeper. I don't think Horiki actually did the crime. However, I do know that in Dazai's life that his best friend did commit adultery with his wife.
But is that written on purpose or does the writer left some unintentional room for interpretation? here in Brazil we have na iconic book where the reader is left to solve/decide if there was adultery or not. there is no real answer
Uh no no! He doesn't kill the memes! People say he kills the memes and abandon the meme. The people are the one who kill the memes. Just because PewDiePie review the meme, the meme community rejects the meme.

A lot of people criticize the content that Pewds makes, but this is by far the most intriguing content I've seen from Felix in a long time, if not ever. The reviews are taken to a personal level and that really fascinates me and it is highly inspiring. The novels sound great, and Felix's philosophical responses and conclusions of the books really connect with audience members on a personal level. Well done, Felix.
You honestly reminded me how much i love reading and how much i love books! The way that you described all these novels , you can tell that you are enjoying reading them and reviewing them to us :) I will for sure check these out , thank you ^_^
Ohh, so Dazai [he has the Ability that called "No longer human"] of Bungou Stray Dogs (Anime) is based on the real book and author as well. I would like to read that book too.
Yes. And other characters too! for example, Atsushi Nakajima [Sangetsuki] Doppo Kunikida [Doppo ginkaku] Ryunosuke Akutagawa [Rasyoumon] In Japan, these are the novels that are famous enough to appear in textbooks.
The Crime and Punishment is a really good book. It was included in my literature classes, since I studied in Russia, and it still remaines to be one of my favourites. Dostoevsky is really good at describing psychological state through different things, such as landscapes and others. I think this is the reason why I enjoyed this book so much, because it truly gives you opportunity to feel mentally sick. I think it is the statement of the Dostoevsky's talent. Btw am I the only one who noticed that Crime and Punishment a bit reminds of Death Note?
German Voidz you're not wrong. I read it long before I even heard about Death Note, but whilst watching it I realized the second half of the anime made me really uncomfortable and sad for the main character.
It was good, but personally for me it was SUPER stressful. Like I was panicking for himxp Maybe That's how the author wanted the reader to feel and understand the protagonist.
Veronica Escalera i felt the same and that, in my opinion, is the best aspect of the book. I can understand why some people couldn't enjoy it as well, this book really takes you out of your comfort zone.
I just wanna talk about something serious and important recently. If anyone of you has a friend who is in jail, or went there. Some of those people may be in great isolation from others, all day more than 8 hours, your only contact is with the guard who brings your meals. Then nothing. In a foreign country, any reading material they might have is in another language, and may be difficult to understand, or impossible to read. If anyone knows a friend who went to jail, specially if they are in another foreign country.. there are 2 things that could save their life, that you may not know. 1. is if you personally bought and brought them books. 2. is if you contacted the embassy on their behalf, and asked them to please bring some books for your friend. My whole point is if you do not have contact with someone in a jail/prison/detention cell, for an extended period of time.. it is easy to go crazy. One thing could save these people.. books. So if you know someone, please physically bring them a book. Or I guess you could send used books to a local jail. The point is in this case, books actually do save lives. I know because I experienced this. I was held for what seemed an eternity, but was actually only 30+ days, eventually the US embassy came, they brought me books, and this one thing alone saved me. I will never forget it. Please do the same for a friend if you can.
Letters are good too. Even if you don't feel like you have anything of interest to say. I don't lead a particularly exciting life (when things are going well anyway) so I often just report some news, write about my thoughts, describe weird dreams I've had etc. Pretty much anything is more exciting than jail (in the best case scenario anyway). Inmates make great pen-pals (they usually have to pay for stamps as far as I know so throwing even a couple of dollars on their books helps facilitate communication (among other things). Even if you don't personally know anyone in jail there are websites you can go to that will help you navigate the process and find an inmate who wants someone to write to. I'd imagine that the vast majority do though so you can even just go directly to the website of a correctional facility and randomly pick someone off of the inmate roster. It's fun for you and might mean the world to them. And if youre an artist its a cool way to practice and get feedback and they get some neat art :p
I just read No Longer Human. I definitely have a façade, though I don't work as hard to maintain it as Oba. This book made me re-evaluate my interactions with people. It is a very sad book, but also strangely cathartic. I feel so bad for Oba. Glad to see you read it too, Pewds.
T H E L U N A R G U Y no I’m serious these are so calm and so different from the other videos, I really like this and I wish he made more of these videos
I adore Stoner. I think about it so often. There's so much hope in the book. It could so easily have been nihilistic BS in the hands of a lesser writer but it's so moving. It's about love in all forms. A love that isn't dependent on happiness that even in the absence of happiness (and in the total lack of marital love) is fulfilling and keeps a fire burning. Love for his daughter, love for literature, and living life heroically. I can't emphasize how much I fucking love that book. I don't know where you're getting these recommendations from, Pewds, but your literature club episodes blow 90% of book channels out of the water. Solid books.
Felix, because of your book review series I've taken genuine interest in literature. I enjoy reading and being engulfed in what I'm reading, but I'm coming from John Green books and other romance novels. I wanna broaden my genres and start reading books that I'm too scared to look into. Mind if you could give me some recommendations for an amateur? I would appreciate it so much, thank you Felix.
I'd recommend *I Am Legend* by Richard Matheson, Felix talked about it in an earlier episode of this series. It's pretty short and, I think, engaging all the way through, making it easy for someone, despite being unaccustomed to the genre, to get through it.
Read Gatsby if you didn’t read it in high school. It’s very short, has lots of romantic conflict, and is considered one of the greatest novels of all time for a reason.
Helena Mariano The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, you can up it a notch with 1984, Perfume, A Handmaids Tale
IDK if this is weird to say or not but I realized that you read as a third person seemingly with ease, where as I see most people insert themselves into the story somehow. I think its cool that you can separate yourself from the story and observe it from an outsiders perspective without succumbing to a level of transference with the fictional characters. Just one of the many reasons why I enjoy your book reviews. Kudos Pewds.
I would suggest *Knut Hamsun's **_Hunger_* (Norwegian: _Sult)._ The main character is a starving artist in Oslo, and in some ways is quite similar to Raskolnikov from _Crime and Punishment._
Sabina Lozanciuc I've read Dostoyevsky "crime and punishment " and a short book in two parts - note from a cellar (read it in my language) and " the idiot" I've seen as a play. I hear "the brother Karamazov" is also good
I have "Crime and Punishment" on my shelf, definitely will get to it. Now I read "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy, and I like it. I would say that all the Russian classics are dope. Thank you for suggestions.
I love this series so much, it actually makes me want to join an actual book club. Also, speaking about suggesting books, I think, conside you enjoyed Dostojewski, you can enjoy another Russian author, this time Mikhail Bulgakov's 'The Master and Margarita.' Also I think 'Book without the title' by Anonym would be good as well.
The Master and Margarita is truly brilliant! I've read it twice at different times of my life and it seemed like two different books to me. Would've been interesting to hear Pewds' thoughts on it :)
I don’t know if you know this book or not Pewds, but there is this book called “ This Book Loves You “ totally changed my life! It made me a better person and taught me how to respect wahmen!
I'll admit, I first picked up No Longer Human because I was watching Bungo Stray Dogs and I wanted to learn more about the man behind Dazai's character and I think it was one of the best choices I've ever made. The story is written in such a unique and beautiful way compared to other books that I've read. The way that Dazai describes how Oba feels is so raw and unfiltered yet eloquent and meaningful. Plus, for me personally, there are some segments of the book and Oba's character that I can really relate to in a way that I've never seen done in any other works that I've read. Especially regarding anxiety, putting on a mask, and desperately trying to please those around him to fit in. Of course there are also many parts of his character that I can't relate to (and I'm thankful for that) such as depression and suicide, but it was eye opening to get a glimpse into how it may feel to have these conditions. It really gave me a new outlook on both myself internally, how I project myself externally, and how others may do the same. Overall it was an amazing read that really touched my soul (and crushed it at times lol). As soon as I finished it I knew it would be my new favorite book and honestly it's one of the best books that I've read in a hot minute. I could probably talk about this book for hours if the person listening just let me ramble and put all of my thoughts out there
His other series may be RUclips’s favourite. But his book club videos, honestly my favourite. Any time pewds gets serious and talks about things he enjoys, such as the Blame manga, or things he dislikes I am completely sucked in
Dostoevsky is a genius, his world is interesting. He's a prophet, he sees our world and our problems that was able to predict back in the mid-19th century. He sees people in depth, and reaches to the core. It helps to see others and yourself on an emotional level, and the problems of society, progress, freedom -on the spiritual and intellectual. This great writer was a profound psychologist. Read his books. They show such a depth of penetration into the human soul, which did not dream of modern psychotherapists.
This book club you've started is such meaningful and dear thing to do.

He is simply acting like he read all the books because he doesn't have any content. These videos are all sponsored. He wouldn't have read a single book
I love how pewds can’t figure out “overlook” and then turns around and uses “stoicism”

Probably cause it's just the same word in swedish.
Its actually the same word in every language. Stoicism is a school of ancient greek philosophy. You can't refer to it in any way other than its original name.

I read the letter calmly and easily. In fact, the letter is not that long.
boring and grim? come on, Crime and Punishment couldn't have ended on a more positive note.

I never read any of the books discussed, for a few reasons, but I love just hearing your thoughts on them. These videos are my favorites by far, they're like the only time where I feel completely relaxed yet entertained
NotATurkey what are the few reasons?
Madmaniac 1. I'm always broke 2. Thanks to absentminded siblings my library card is maxed out with fines and 3. Pewds taste in books is unhealthy for me. I also find those kinds of books fascinating but more often than not they send me spiraling so I prefer fantasy where I can mentally escape.
NotATurkey I absolutely love fantasy books. Preferably Medieval Fantasy.
I really enjoyed this video. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE your energy and personality in meme review, but I also love these really raw, semi-emotional videos about literature. Great balance.
I think your book reviews are now my favourite series.

I'm glad someone finally pointed it out. he misunderstood that part
I can see how can misunderstood that tho
yesss. tru. Plus Dazai's body was discovered on his 39th birthday not 49
But is that written on purpose or does the writer left some unintentional room for interpretation? here in Brazil we have na iconic book where the reader is left to solve/decide if there was adultery or not. there is no real answer

Petition for pewds to make another 🅱️ook review
The Crime and Punishment is a really good book. It was included in my literature classes, since I studied in Russia, and it still remaines to be one of my favourites. Dostoevsky is really good at describing psychological state through different things, such as landscapes and others. I think this is the reason why I enjoyed this book so much, because it truly gives you opportunity to feel mentally sick. I think it is the statement of the Dostoevsky's talent. Btw am I the only one who noticed that Crime and Punishment a bit reminds of Death Note?
damn I need to read that
German Voidz you're not wrong.
I literally just finished that book last weekend.

Please do the same for a friend if you can.
sensual heretic that was one helluva movie tho
K
Also make sure the books are paperback

If you like romance, you can start with *Norweigan Wood* by Haruki Murakami.

I think your "observation" that most people can't read in the third person is woefully uninformed.
@@TheRockerX this may sound cheesy but how do you read in third person ?

They show such a depth of penetration into the human soul, which did not dream of modern psychotherapists.
hi i have never read any of his books..would you recommend one of his books?
