Though we love his funny , over the top videos , we also love to see this side of him. To me personally , i got a lot of my moral stands from him , learned and grew from some of his words. It's really interesting how stoicism compares to buddhism. There's a lot of the same ideas expressed in a different light- bonds vs attachments, accordance with nature vs the three universal truths,,, etc. But it seems like buddhism has some bigger/harder to grasp ideas with the goal of enlightenment, whereas stoicism is a lot more straight forward with the more attainable goal of inner peace/prosperity.
I went into this book with more of a buddhist background and I was resistant to learning it. I felt like I already found the perfect philosophy for me, but according to buddhism you should always "empty your cup" and you can't learn what you think you already know, so I went into it with an open mind. Stoicism really surprised me and there are a lot of lessons I will hopefully take with me for the rest of my life. Although there are some things I still prefer in buddhism, I would definitely now consider my ideal philosophy to be somewhere between the two. It really opened my eyes and I hope to study more schools of philosophy and see what else I can learn

I have a different point of view on that. Do you realize how much technology has affected mankind's pursure of science and knowledge? Today, we can find information from the click of a button. It depends on how you use it, because no, technology is not damaging our reading nor our intelligence, it's just a tool waiting to be used. Look at the kindle, it brought people that never read to read books for the first time, and made it easier to carry multiple books with you on the go. And you can read in the dark if you want.

I haven’t read the whole book but what you were talking about completely resonated with me. When you talk about owning things, it’s also the illusion of being in control of what happens to you in life which is the issue. I have a serious chronic illness and have been bedridden for years. Which really confronts me with what I can’t control. So I relate to this so deeply. And it’s good to be reminded as I’m often unhappy because I want to grasp at a healthy body and I can’t.
Most people spend as long as they can running away from the truth that they can’t control their lives.

*Felix just crushed it at showcasing the merits of stoicism here.* On a related thread, from my perspective as a Harvard neurobiologist, achievement of worthwhile long-term pursuits requires following a narrow road of focused thoughts and actions to incrementally progress along your envisioned path. Despite our best of intentions, we often fall off the path - either into overstimulation (social media, news) or unconsciousness (junk food, alcohol/sedating drugs). It's a well-known psychological phenomenon of temporal discounting: opting for a small reward now rather than a larger reward later, the neural mechanisms of which are starting to be elucidated. We are prone to stimuli that induce quick striatal dopamine spikes to our reward circuitry, such as what comes from social-media notifications. For some, simply "enjoying life" by immersing in overstimulation or unconsciousness - without long-term pursuits - may be the most fulfilling path. Truly. But if these once enjoyable activities begin undermining your life, consider getting back on the narrow road of clean and calm present energy to engage in pursuits that are worthwhile to you personally and which may concurrently benefit others. On that note, after several months of preparation, I'll soon be releasing videos on leveraging our brains to improve our lives. Cheers. 🧠⚡🧘‍♂️

I have found the toolbox to analyze every single aspect of my life and perspective and am able to use it in circumstances that would have normally crushed me.

Hey Felix. I lost my job on Friday. But as I was signing the form towards my unemployment, I wasn’t sad or angry. I remember your video the one where you talked about not being angry about something you can’t control. Today, after a night of drinking and saying goodbye to my colleagues, I saw your video. I just want to say thank you. I could have made an ruckus, or shouted or fought with the hr. But I just accepted it. You inspire me to be better. You do make me better. You don’t know me, and I don’t know you. But you made a bigger difference in my life than most people in my life. That may be sad, but for me it’s a blessing. It’s really hard to say if you CAUSED some event you didn’t to happen to happen, or if it was ultimately out of your control. You can always attribute some amount of blame on yourself w most issues, and therefore guilt’o’clock

I can understand where you are coming from but you have to realise that Philosophy is something very subjective. No 2 humans will have the same opinion about something.
That said, Felix just stated that Stoicism is about accepting things for what they are and from what I am deducing from what you wrote, you seem to be quite the overthinker. Overthinkers are known to be people who overanalyse things. Most of the time they find themselves to be blamed even though they did nothing wrong.
If you feel like you did something wrong, dont think too hard about it. Just accept that you did something wrong and move on and learn from it.
      I hope this helps. 🤙
