- MultiVersus, the Super Smash Bros. inspired fighter featuring Cartoon Network and Warner Bros characters, is shutting down in 2023. Player First Games CEO Tony has explained that the team is working hard to create the best version of MultiVersus to be released at an unannounced date. Will MultiVersus really survive this shutdown when 2024 rolls around?
MultiVersus features a star-studded cast of characters from Adventure Time, Scooby-Doo, Game of Thrones, the DC Cinematic Universe, Rick and Morty, and many more. It felt like the perfect crossover for Super Smash Bros. fans, but the game's playerbase quickly dropped. MultiVersus is in potential danger.

I really hope that once the full completed version of multversus gets released then we would finally get the story mode along with new major characters added for the full version.
story mode is going to take more than a year to make. I'd say it'll take a good 2 and a half years to make a full story mode with CGI cutscenes and everything.

"It starts." Seriously, I had no idea this game was even still in beta. And no refunds for the entire period it's down, that's just cold. They say they're going to bring it back next year, but if Warner Brothers' actions over the past year or so is anything to go by, yeah, I'm not holding out to much hope. Possible RIP, _Multiverses._

This is why I can't stand live-service games. They can choose to shut down at any time and you just lose your money.

I'm a little happy considering the fact they never put it on the Switch & this is happening now, but also disappointed because this could permanently shut down the game.
They did put it on consoles.

@@sorbetkidyoutube There is leaks of the game coming to switch and even mobile, if you make an account for the game you can even see an option for nintendo switch. it's probably gonna happen when the game release on 2024.
I think people don't have enough time for live service games anymore, which is why Multiversus was declining. Plus, there's something about an old game you can come back to and enjoy years later, but you can't do that with live service games because they aren't the same game you left, if it's even there at all. This is also another reason why I prefer single-player experiences way more!
It's not about people having time, Fortnite is still huge. Also kids exist you know lol :P. However, the game just didn't have enough content was too grindy, that was really the problem.
@@DiSCERiTY yeah kids exist but having a smash clone like Multiversus aimed at people who know the Warner Brothers IP’s was doomed to fail if kids are what they were going for.
In no way is Live Service better imo, they make the games too grind heavy and that’s exactly why people don’t have time. No one has time anymore because you’re hooked onto one live service game just for it to either A, be replace (whether by the player or company) or B, be never ending. It’s all around bad and no way should be compared to Fortnite when they do it right in many ways-though I hate to admit it because they prey on addiction and moms credit card-and is way too big for kids to not play.
This is def not. The reason why, biggest issue was there was too many bugs/lack of updates
Going by that logic, Fortnite would have declined. But it's very much alive still. Multiversus just failed go deliver. Simple.

Why do crossovers sometimes seem to work and sometimes not, whether in movies, shows or video games? What determines whether the meeting of different characters guarantees success or failure?
It works when there it time put into the theme, gameplay, mechanics and modes. To be honest, it will work if a developer is willing to put a good 3-4 years into developing a platform fighter. It just requires a lot of money and effort.

Also, most Smash games are developed in only 2 years, so making a better game than Smash can definitely be done. As much as people like to act as if Sakurai and the Smash dev team are gods, there are games that take much longer to make, with just as much passion and effort put into it.
Whether or not there's more depth to the product than just "this thing and this thing meet". Most of Multiversus' appeal is the crossover, smash has that AND huge appeal from the competitive community. There's your Wreck it Ralph's and your Space Jam 2s. You have your Jimmy/Timmy Pour hours and your Tidal Zones. It really just depends on the amount of effort put into the thing.
This Game had so much potential and somehow they went silent and lots of players stop playing. Really want this game to make a come back and hoping for the best for the Full Game of Multiversus.

It's kinda insane how 7 months ago people were saying that this game would be smash bros "true competitor" and now 7 months later when you mention the multiversus the only reaction you get is : oh wait that game still exsist?
What bothers me is that they haven’t mentioned the update they promised for the 31st of this month. I rlly wanna know if we’re getting a final update for the beta before it shuts down. We were promised a larger update back in February before it got delayed to the 31st of this momth.
Guess they need more time to work on the update for Multiversus!

If had a nickel every time a smash killer had died I would have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
Honestly, this doesn't surprise me. Big crossover game franchises like this, typically, have a very short lifespan. If anything, it'll probably suffer the same fate as "Lego Dimensions."
I remember this video I watched before and I heard that the song mystery twins V1 had a different part/segment but, when the song is out, it was different but the part is gone I wish they brought the part back
Double the roster & Maps
Add gravity (like real gravity you'd find in platform video games)
Improve online play
Add Story mode for each character (this alone would be a huge W if they actually gave it a budget for cutscenes and special interactions)
Consistent updates of new characters, maps, events (maybe a character every 3 months, a map every 2 months, and a new event every months)
Also:
Make a server for the game to asian regions
Add a ton of new modes
Add a collectable like what smash have with trophies or spirits, for the players to have something to do, and a cool way to show and celebrate warner bros history
Port the game to Switch and Mobile
And last but not least: Unban mods, they are fun, and harmless, most people will not mod the game anyway, so let the people that will, have fun.

@@kitsonicko I don't think Ami Yumi are the part of the "most requested" category, there is a lot more characters that are more requested, but they definetly should make it at one point, i love them.

They'll probably need help from a bigger, more experienced videogame company in order to fix the bugs and also increase the speed at which they make and release characters and stages. They also really need to increase coin rewards and EXP farming speed.
As a big fighting games playa this game was a pretty good smash-like. It honestly did some cool stuff too:
- The floatiness kind of fit the cartoony theme of the game
- the combat was structured around team coordination
-Being able to add buffs to your character before the match and could actually synergize with your partner's
-really interesting character mechanics
But damn, not enough balances and the movement and flow still feeling a bit wonky, few new characters, no new maps, no new items, no new modes, no new buffs, that's nothing. Shame too, didn't even last a year...
We need a good Cartoon Network platform fighter with tons of Cartoon Network characters from lots of Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Samurai Jack, The PowerPuff Girls, Ben 10, and other shows!

Def feel like this is gonna have a decent comeback next year. Dev team was too small to go from open beta to full launch while staying live the whole time

I still like playing MultiVersus; I just don't play it very often due because of school. When the semester's over, I'm constantly playing it. When it shuts down, there BETTER be some crucial improvements.
Honestly, me and probably most of the people who have played multiversus were so hyped, and it kind of just didn’t live up to it. I stopped playing like a week or two after release, and my friends and I were soooo hyped for the games release. I don’t hope for this game to shut down, but it really wouldn’t affect me if it did or not
I think a problem with Multiversus was the lack of offline modes meaning the game couldn't make profit, but that's my assumption.
As harsh as it might sound I saw kinda saw this one coming the game was still way too early in development to get a playable beta. It needed a lot more work and polish. A demo could of worked but a fully open beta was too soon.
I have a feeling that we will get some cool things in the new update
The only thing that would make me actually wanna play this game is if they added gumball but since it’s shutting down that won’t happen anytime soon

The problem with multi-verse they never really added anything and when they did, they didn’t add anything that we wanted them to add

Multiversus never stuck for me personally because the combat against bots was never super engaging. Which is all I really do in fighting games. Plus if I remember right you always had to be online even if you weren't playing online and that was just annoying

I really do hope for the best for multiversus. I'm not a big fan of fighters, but I actually love multiversus. I stopped playing it a while back due to some of it's issues. But I did enjoy it, and I spend money on the things I enjoy... If multiversus never comes back, I'm gonna be very upset. Because I really do love the game, and I spent money on it...
This is possibly the only way to save it. Pull the game, do lots of work on it for 6 months, relaunch with a better business model.
Some of the biggest fighting games right now like skullgirls and guilty gear xrd average 200-300 players daily, multiversus still has double the players. A fighting game having a player count above a hundred is thriving. Fighting games aren't mainstream and arent supposed to be. The issue is that developers don't realize this and constantly tries to make fighting games something its not with unreasonable expectations. Monetizing fighting games like fortnite or valorant with the expectation that millions of people will play it was the reason it failed.
Multiversus was actually a fun game, it brought nostalgia and anticipation to see the main company Warner Brothers to make this reality. While the game wasnt exactly the same thing as Nintendo famous multi platform genre "Super smash bros" considering it had many different elements aside from smash It still was interesting to see a different play style for once while having the same 4 brawler element it had different editions like character interactions, Character unlockables and other things. But the major problem of the game was that it felt it was rushed however this gives the developers a big opportunity since they can focus on the problems that the game usually had for example adding new modes, items, Grabbing and even blocking. It's very disappointing that the game was released back in 2022 and now it's shutting down but at least they have a good purpose. I really hope the game comes back bigger then it did before since it still has potential in the near future.
This game has a lot of potential, so is sad that is getting shut down, i really hope it comes back and bring a new experience that people will really enjoy.

I think all they really need to do is just add a bunch more characters to the roster…if they handle it like smash did with new releases every few months I think that just revive the game (also one of them has to be Walter White or this doesn’t work)

On all platforms, ability to play on your own with no online necessity, and no microtransactions. Those are the big things that they need to get me hooked.

Tbh multiversus is only realy fun if you got friends or music playing in the background. Other than that it's still realy fun. It's a game that's not your first choice but hard to stop playing when it is.

I just hated all that cooldown time for various attacks that characters relied on so much. Then again, the game had a "no spamming" policy that only made gameplay more unpredictable.
It was in open beta, keep in mind. so let's hope the full release adds way more
