    The biggest issue multiverses had was that it was trying to be something it wasn’t. Like at its core it was a party game trying to be a live service and that was the problem. Because of how oversaturated the market of live service games are if u don’t do something different that helps u stand out from others it’s not gonna do well. Other than that the game had a ton of issues, the terrible matchmaking, some of the worst hitboxes I’ve personally seen an a fighting game, an unbalanced roaster, and super repetitive gameplay, along with not having a lot of keeping people interested. Not to mention having those overpriced skins didn’t do the game any favors either. Overall tho I’m glad the game has been making a ton of improvements during its downtime and fixing these issues from the sound of it but really wish the devs just held off on this game cause it’s clear the team just wasn’t ready to handle a live service title.

      Agree with everything you said except blaming the team. Releasing the game in this state was a corporate decision, not a developer decision.
      Chances are, if a huge game like this has a massive problem with it, you can almost assuredly blame it on some sort of forced deadline from some guy in a suit that makes 10 times what the entire development team makes.

    I got into MVS at the beginning after getting an alpha invite. It was fun enough so played a bit. But in the middle of the first season I got extremely burned out on the game. The balance was all over the place and the balancing patches didn't seem to know where the issues were.
    The whole perk system was ultimately going to doom their balancing efforts (an issue I called out in alpha) because either the perks are significant and the characters have to be balanced around their most min-maxed loadouts or the perks are insignificant so they don't matter so why not get rid of them? Fighting games require a very careful balance and it can't be achieved if players can substantially alter their fighter's capabilities at round start in a blind system.
    Ultimately, while the game had a lot of good things going for it, the developers baked too many issues into the core DNA of the game and it wound up being unsatisfying to play (in addition to perks it's inability to decide if it was a 2v2 game or a 1v1 game was going to doom the balance as well especially since in 2v2 there was no team friendly fire meaning some combinations of characters made things miserable).

    I had a little obsession with this game and my reason to stop playing is I never fully liked the physics and hitboxes, they just felt weird, too floaty and random; most characters felt weightless, like they could evade any hit at the last second, most matches were a ton of missed attacks on both sides. It made you feel like you lacked control.
    I was trapped by the game for the characters (I love cartoons). Actually the presentation in general, aside from the music, was pretty great, but I never felt like the gameplay was polished enough. I really think the problem with this game was way deeper than monetization and content updates.

    • @1982pokemon
      @1982pokemon 5 месяцев назад +3

      Watching the gameplay in the video is two characters buzzing like flies, altering their momentum like four times per jump, and missing attacks.
      Part of the fun of Smash is having that sense of weight to each character and attack, and being able to land hits with a predictable sense of physics. Smash characters can only alter their momentum by jumping, air dodging (risky), or their up B (very risky). I'm watching these Multiversus characters float around with 5 sudden bursts and jolts per air time.

  • @pro_pooer
    @pro_pooer 6 месяцев назад +24

    Honestly the first months of this game being released was some of the best gaming moments I've had since OG PS4 days. With that being said it really hurt to see the downward spiral of this game despite being one of the biggest peaks we've seen from a fighting game. I think one of the main issues with the game was that they didn't have any direction when it came to the seasons and the character releases in general. I feel like they would've a longer lifespan for the beta if they actually provided themes with each season and a character bundled with it. So they can actually make it balanced and to create more hyper behind the season releases. Not to mention the battlepass fillers just felt like random garbage and assets they had laying around so they just threw it in. Even if the gameplay wasn't subpar or perfected, I'm sure some players would've disregarded some of those flaws if they could've been grinding for themes that they were nostalgic or passionate for. Like imagine a villans theme or a sidekick or even as whole network theme such as looney toons or cartoon network. Instead of releasing what was seemingly to be random characters that the devs wanted instead of the majority of the fanbase. They could've even released a redux to each theme so they could've capitalized on the hype generated from that season theme. But it was just directionless and they didn't create any season trailers or even character trailers (i think they had only a rick one) to create anticipation. It really felt like they dropped the ball when it came to player engagement and made it so that there was dead air after every season release. Literally the only thing that kept players engaged was the patch notes and that's a whole different can of worms.

  • @LordFunkyFist

    For me personally, the thing that killed my interest in the game were the challenges to level up the battle pass (not to mention some of the battle pass rewards themselves weren't that great either). There were daily challenges that were more tedious than the others, and even though you can reroll to get different ones it was the luck of the draw if you got a more doable one with your free reroll.
    Not to mention the Seasonal Challenges that got added were worse, one of the ones I had was getting about a hundred wins (or some other absurd amount) with a Bruiser character, but the only ones I was decent at were Garnet or Jake, so it made me feel like I HAD to play them despite leaning more towards Support & Tanks. I get those kinds of challenges are there to make you branch out & experiment but they were really egregious & became more of a chore. I just wanted to get on & have some fun for an hour or so & grinding out matches with characters I don't like isn't exactly fun for me.
    I do hope it makes a comeback since at it's core there WAS fun to be had but it's gonna be a big uphill battle for them.

The reason i grew tired of the game was the consistent bugs combined with the inconsistent mechanics. Mashing attacks or dodging during a true combo works like 50% of the time online, so there's little to no point in learning combos, especially against laggy opponents. and that's not even mentioning the crazy rollback bugs where you find yourself on the respawn platform without even having seen your death.

    The game failed because it was jank, the netcode sucked and the hitboxes and hit priority were wack. PFG acknowledged both the hitboxes and the netcode/servers needed improvements and promised that they were revamping both. When the hitbox and netcode changes finally came they either didn't improve the game enough or actually made the game worse. At pro levels the game was a joke; Harley was one of the best characters and players literally didn't use any of her special attacks. The later battlepass problems aren't what killed the game, it was already dead/dying by that point. One of the final nails in the coffin was when they started releasing characters almost no one wanted like the Gremlins.

I think what really killed the game was the lack of modes, and the live-service model really not working for a platform fighter, setting up certain expectations that the dev team couldn't keep up with. I also personally didn't enjoy the game as much as I would have liked to as the movement felt weird and the character movesets were far too complicated. 1. Ditch FTP, just sell the game for 30 to 40 something bucks and keep the microtransactions if you have too, while also releasing a finished game with CONTENT to play.
    2. (It's probably not gonna happen but) PLEASE make the game faster and more combo focused PFG, I know the floaty gameplay makes 2v2's easier to balance, though when it comes at the cost of 1v1's, you know, the main mode people play!
    3. Give me SOMETHING to do by myself when the homies aren't online and I want to play some single player content. It doesn't have to be anything like NASB 2's campaign, or World of Light, however I would take anything rather than nothing.

Just because something feels and plays different from smash does not make it fun/more interesting. Look at NASB 2 and how that game is doing great by adding onto what makes smash interesting with a meter system rather than trying to avoid even being close to how other platform fighters play.

    My issue is, despite all the budget and sppeal and everything else, the game doesn't feel better than alternatives. That's a massive deal in this genre. Its why Melee is still going strong 20 years later, or why that nee Nick fighter is doing well.

      That’s how I know y’all all have trash takes and shouldn’t be having hard opinions about anything, that Nickelodeon game was getting fucking clowned, roasted, and shut down by Multiversus easily the entire time it was out,
      Just purely from the perspective of Dev responsiveness it was genuinely the only game I’ve seen meaningful updates shipped within weeks,
      Hitboxes were being fixed consistently, characters were being added consistently, and they were pushing new maps, game modes, and a ranking system all within 9-10 months of being released, in a beta state.
      In its beta it was blowing all stars out of the water, and I swear on my left testicle people were trash so they complained about everything without even looking at what was done well, and even better than in Melee which is 20 years old, and especially leagues ahead of fucking Nickolodeon.
      Everyone wanna blame corporations for ruining shit, but in reality it’s brain dead people who can’t articulate or understand nuance.

    The last match I did of Multiversus was against a Shaggy main who had been playing the game since it first launched. He bodied me so hard I barely even landed hits on him. Felt gatekept due to that but I can't blame him, that's the unfortunate fate of fighting games. The skill gap between players gets so massive without any form of proper matchmaking and players just can't play the game due to people being too good at it.

    MultiVersus came out at the right place, at the right time. It came out when Smash Bros Ultimate was just about to finish its 2nd Fighter Pass, Brawlhalla decide to bring in more guest characters, and at the same time Nick All-Star Brawl was announced it came out with… lackluster results.
    While MultiVersus was trying to be the next Brawlhalla, and even though it certainly wasn’t going to be in the same level as Smash Bros, Player First Games did a better job at handling their first game than what Gamemill did with the first Nick All-Star Brawl.
    And as someone who used to make videos about another Warner Bros Crossover game years ago, MultiVersus was a worthy successor of it.
    Still waiting for a trailer for the full version of MultiVersus, when it comes out next year. And the game’ll probably be worth it when it comes out.

    It honestly sounds to me like they found a ton of unexpected issues and had to change plans to fix things. I don't know about other people, but personally my biggest experience was lots of REALLY bad online matches that lead to tons of unreliable hitboxes and failed spikes. So if they can make the online work better than I can overlook a lot, but the scummy battlepass isn't really a great look overall and I doubt people are going to forget about that too easily.

    Are you serious? You think it was them focusing on the characters that ruined this game? The focus on the roster was actually one of this game’s ONLY strong points, it’s the total opposite of what you concluded.
    The things that ruined this game might as well just be listed as “everything else”. No singleplayer content, the online features sucked, and locking characters behind a paywall felt insulting. Force a battle pass down my throat, whatever, but don’t gatekeep the main pull of the game, the characters, from us. That was so stupid.

    • @ZackLillipad

    I enjoyed the game a lot, personally. What I didn't like was how Rick and Stripe were clearly over-tuned on release with really strong kill options. Stripe in particular seemed to have no weaknesses largely due to the free hit revolver and ridiculous chainsaw command grab. It felt like they just wanted people to pay to get the new characters, which sucked.
    I actually really liked the movesets and creative move designs. A lot of fighters felt really unique and deep, with a lot of unique moves for normals, which pulled me in in a way other platform fighters didn't

  • @fatyoshi696
    @fatyoshi696 6 месяцев назад +1

    personally, I went from being super hyped for the game to completely dropping it after just barely a week, the game just did not feel good to play, the movement felt like tracking through mud and the attacks and animations felt super squishy. The game also had what I like to call "moveset imbalance", which is when the moves in a character's kit have very varying power levels, with some being extremely spammable and others being totally outclassed; this isn't an issue in and of itself, but multiversus also had super harsh staling that punished you for spamming your character's few good moves and forced you to use the worse ones instead, and the small movesets made this problem worse.
    Also, I'm a rivals of aether player, and by comparison most of the characters weren't super well designed, they either had absolutely nothing interesting going on or were a total mess of unrelated gimmicks, and the few that did have great ideas were very poorly executed, LeBron James' ball mechanic was super fun but you were discouraged from ever throwing the ball because while it is a strong projectile, it was too great of a risk because of how awful his ball-less state was, essentially meaning the character actively discouraged you from interacting with his main mechanic.
    As someone who prefers to totally ignore battle passes because a game should be fun enough to keep you playing without a battle pass to keep you coming back, the game had absolutely no staying power for me and I deleted it after only 5 hours of playtime, if you want a good pc platform fighter come play rivals, it plays and feels super well and has thousands of characters thanks to workshop support if you're willing to pay the $15 on sale entry fee

    The biggest problem was the roster the new characters being added were a very transparent form of advertising. Rick and morty was becoming more and more unpopular yet because a new season was on the way they had to add both of them back to back. With all the potential choices of characters to add they chose based on marketing first like black Adam due to that movie coming out.
    To an extent smash does this too but they'll atleast throw in odd balls and fan favorites as well. Most people who liked the game said they really weren't drawn to any one character and for a "fighting game" that's awful since the norm is maining 1 or 2. It also could lead to people only playing meta characters.

And I don't want to lose cosmetics that I like or if you could get them in the future, you have to grind a lot of money to get it or even worse, making you to pay it with real money.

It became a daily thing I’d do, get home from work, see the new challenges, bust them out in 10-30 minutes and come back later.

    I feel like what almost every live service game needs (let's be honest here, live service games are not gonna go away and the industry is pushing it to be the next big thing even with all the outrage, so we might as well know what works with it and what doesn't) is just game modes. From what I gather playing Valorant, there's just not enough modes to cater to more of their casual audiences, they even removed some of these modes. I feel like if you're gonna make a limited game mode, it'd be better if it was like a holiday specific mode with its own rewards (okay, maybe limited time rewards is a bad idea considering it's just another way to squeeze money out of the player's pockets).
    But yeah, it's hard but I feel that a game should cater both to audiences who play the game casually and who play the game competitively. For casual players, they can maybe add a game mode, with random item drops like in Smash Bros, for competitive players, they can strive for a better ranking system and maybe rewarding and incentivising the playerbase to rank up, as well as balancing out the characters.

I'd rather play as a bunch of pixels with one attack than play a game where i can only use an attack 3 times and it either goes through my opponent or it doesn't knock them back. While my opponent just got free kill from loading in late and the rest of the match they're teleporting around. Wired connection, with the best Internet money can buy. 😂😂😂

    Edit: I suppose my only real issue with this game was poor server stability. PS5 and series x players were able to get into the lobby before last gen users could (usually around 1-2 seconds, enough time to usually take a few hits but not die immediately unless you didn't know where your character was) and choppy server connection made it frustrating at times. Those are really the only gripes I ever had with the game

    My biggest thing was it’s a fighting game with no way to block/shield. This game is literally asking you to spam bc they can’t do anything to block it.

      @thatcheesy8613 Melee has a sheild mechanic and rivals has a parry both defensive mechanics while Multi only has steven with a shield

      @@Loldino897 the melee shield isn’t used that much and usually only for shield dropping and whiffs and do we **really** count parrying?
