Toxic Tuesday: When you know something is wrong, but you’re told “Everything looks fine”.

  • One of the most frustrating experiences is knowing in your gut that something is wrong, but you are told that things are fine. The truth is that healthcare providers are human, too. We all have limits to our education, experience, and degree of open-mindedness. This is why at Blodgett Dental Care, we constantly pursue furthering our education and provide so much time during our New Patient Experience appointments to really listen to what our guests are sharing.
Today’s patient experienced two root canals on her lower 2nd molars. Coincidently, she also was diagnosed with “IBD” (Irritable Bowel Disease). When she understood that these two teeth were energetically connected to her large intestine, she sought out her dentist’s opinion on their health. She was told, “Everything looks fine.” This answer did not pass her “gut sense,” so she sought other opinions. At other dental offices, she was told the same thing. But keeping true to her intuition, she came to Blodgett Dental Care knowing how open-minded we are to hear her opinions, thoughts, and feelings. Based on her history and subsequent health issues, we knew that something was wrong and agreed to remove her two dead teeth. When these teeth came out of her jawbone, the stench from the sockets and the intensely dark coating to the roots was shocking. Of course, the look and smell should be no surprise given that they are essentially like “corpse teeth”: dead and rotting.

The core philosophy at Blodgett Dental Care is to redefine the patient experience to one which is wholly personalized and positive. We want our patients to embrace their oral health and to understand that the focus is fully centralized around their goals. We also understand that many people have challenging emotions around past dental experiences. Our New Patient Experience process helps to acknowledge these feelings and move beyond them. We welcome all people who are seeking to achieve their best levels of systemic health.

Thanks for posting this. That’s a great example that I can show some people who are not fully convinced yet, but they have an open mind still. Thanks again.
