Even to rent it is difficult for a French middle class...😅! But as a French I am happy and proud that there were American people who can come to live to my country...Most of all because my mother who was a child during World War II always told me how they were kind and our saviors, and then because I love the various sceneries there are in this huge country I will probably never visit except by RUclips 😅. I wish you the best in the beautiful district of Amboise and to be happy there. Be blessed ❤
Welcome. Similar to you guys, I moved from Austin to the south of France last year. I looked at many chateau, but decided to buy a smaller property which is the chatelet (former guard tower) of one of the Dax family fortresses dating from the 16th century. I have no regrets. I will say that I have been visiting France my entire life due a grandmother being from Paris. Bonne chance!
I’m excited for you two strangers! You are doing what I would love to do. Thanks for sharing and I’m looking forward to following you two on your journey in France. I love the house and garden. The quince bushes are gorgeous. The color is amazing. ❤🎉
Can’t wait to see what your future reveals. My husband traveled to Normandie last summer and stayed in Bayeux. Loved the beautiful bucolic French countryside!
I just came across your channel. i can see why you fell in love with this property both inside and out. Just the right amount of space. Subscribed so i can see your progress. I wish you all the best with your project.
I'm thrilled to find your channel. Hubby & I are presently in Arlington, Tx. and planning a move to France in Spring 2026 when he retires. I have been looking in many areas incl. Loire. What a joy to be following your journey.
7th generation Texan here admiring your adventure. I spent a few days in Amboise 5 years ago. Do you both speak French? We found it was needed and we sadly missed easy communication. The Hospital is handy and they use visiting nurses that cost very little. Can’t wait until I see what you do to the house.
A splendid choice! The rear garden is especially intriguing to me….and for some reason the attic! I’m a Mississippian who’s nearing the end of a renovation in Italy. A great adventure awaits 🎉
The house is wonderful. So much better than a chateau where renovations are too expensive and never ending. This is charming and definitely doable. I would love to stay for an art retreat here. And right in the town! Fantastic! 😊
How exciting for y'all! Austin ain't what it used to be, thats for sure....and its now moving into my town of Georgetown. Enjoy the slower pace and the new culture and I look forward to following your adventures.
If I could afford it, I would be in France this very minute. I love France. I speak a little and of course, would be taking classes if I was able to make that move. I can't wait to see what you do.
I’m so excited for you. We moved to France from Oxford, England over the course of many years and have been here permanently since 2015. I hope you are as happy as we are. X
I'm excited to have found your channel! Will be very excited to see your projects and progress. 👍👍🥰🥰 I'd been watching Escape to the Country for years which helped fuel my desire to own home with some land. I never gave up on it after searching for well over 30 years off and on. Finally one day I/we found our dream home and location! An earth-berm house with fully established orchard and vineyard and many many other trees, bushes and flowers. The entire property looks similar to what you'd find in France....a rock-faced home with a courtyard to which we've added some water features too. It required a lot of interior work (mostly cosmetic thankfully which we did all ourselves) and the grounds all needed attention after being neglected for 10 years by the previous owner. Where is all this? Right here in the good ol' USA! In one of the upper midwest states...VERY upper if you catch my drift 😉😉 We love it! We've decorated it with soft French country interior colors and furnishings and the grounds have flowers and bushes that give it a very French farmhouse appeal. It's wonderful to have found our dream become a reality as I'm sure you too will discover. 🤗🤗❤❤
I'm English but have lived in France for about 12 years.. You have totally made the right decision. The house is incredible and Amboise looks so lovely. I've often wanted to visit there but haven't done yet - now I really want to. Good luck with your journey - look forward to following you.
I'm so happy to have found your channel! My husband and I are planning to buy somewhere in the Loire Valley in the next three years. Amboise is at the top of our list! We're looking forward to watching your journey!
I, too, am a Texan vicariously living on expats restoration projects. Happy I found Episode 1. Excited to see what y’all are gonna do to that gorgeous place.
This appealed to me in many ways, a more manageable ( less expensive I hope)project than a chateau, a lovely looking town, history, art & a garden. Add in the wine cellar & even in its current state, its perfect. Subscribed & looking forward to what comes next.☺️
I stayed in Amboise years ago. I was enchanted with the chateau, the old world streets and shops, and the view of the river from my window. I would love to visit again should time and circumstance allow it.
I love your property, those floor tiles and all the panelling and original features are fabulous. My love of France started the same way. Those TV shows have a lot to be responsible for 😂 I'm starting my own search this year. Looking forward to seeing how you guy's get on with your renovations 😊❤
So glad to have found your channel!!! Your new home looks lovely❤️I also found Escape to the Chateau and Chateau DIY during Covid and became enchanted as well! My husband and I are planning on moving to France in a few years. I look forward to more videos!
Wow, wow wow. You really scored, must have looked hard for a long time. Looks eminently doable. The garden is the icing on the cake. Super happy for you. Ease up with the destruction/stripping back. Consider fixing up one functional area at a time, and still enjoy the old vibe until the inevitable. Edit: what do i know, economies of scale, get each process done (electrics, duh), operational efficiency in the round, get each stage over with. All the best, and thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to your adventure!
Wonderful! We lived in Austin for years and then raised our children in Round Rock. We are temporarily living in Dallas for our youngest to complete high school in May 2025 (he has a language disorder/autism). My husband and I were fortunate enough to take early retirement and we are very seriously considering a move to Ireland. Not just my husband and me, but our 3 adult children, son-in-law, granddaughter and our honorary “aunt” who has dual citizenship. Aunt and I are traveling to Ireland in September to meet with her extended family and to hopefully find some potential properties for us to restore. 🤞🏼Looking forward to following you in your journey!
We know what you’re going through!😅 my wife and I went through this in the cantal region. She is French I am Texan together we are Frexan. We live back in hutto. It was a little too cold for us. I’m in construction, need any advice don’t hesitate be glad to help if we could ! You’ll love it , we did
@@AustintoAmboise thank you for your response. We are looking to return, just haven’t figured out where we want to spend our time. The food and wine in all the regions are wonderful to explore. Can’t wait to get back there and enjoy all le fetes.
What a wonderful & exciting adventure that lies ahead for you both. We live in Australia but we adore France. Look very forward to watching the progress.
Well it wasn't abandoned or anything. It was owned by a family - multiple siblings who had inherited it from their parents. That's very common in France with the way their inheritance laws work. But we don't think anyone has lived in it permanently for a while.
We fell in love with Amboise also. How much was your house? How do you support yourself financially? Once you buy can you live there continuously? What was your process getting to France? What real estate agency did you go through? Thank you
The pricing of homes in Amboise is varied of course, based on size, location, condition, etc. We were lucky to find a house and garden of this size right in the old quarter. It seems to be a bit of a rarity. But here's the website for the realtors that sold us this house, Nestenn. You can browse their listings to get some idea: nestenn.com/?action=listing&prestige=0&transaction=acheter&list_ville=37400+Amboise It's going to be our full-time home eventually, but we have a lot of things to get in order first. Hoping to relocate permanently in 2-3 years. 🙂 So we're still working in the U.S. We worked with The Adrian Leeds Group - adrianleeds.com/ - which specializes in helping Americans buy property in France. We highly recommend you check out their website; there's lots of info there. It is well worth your money to do a consultation call with Adrian, and then sign on for the whole package if you're serious. They help you through the whole process - searching for property, coordinating viewings, answering all your questions, being the liaison between you and the seller's agent, helping you get important things in place for relocation (getting a French bank account, dealing with the utilities, etc). We seriously couldn't have done it without them. Well we could have, but it would have been very laborious and probably a terrible experience.
Sensible folk to have found a smaller sized property. A chateau although beautiful must be very expensive to heat and forever in need of maintenance and a bit scary if you were ever there alone. Questions for a future Q&A.. How easy will it be to get residency? In the mean time I guess you will have to keep a home in the USA. Are you waiting to retire before leaving the states permanently? I'm looking forward to following your progress Bon chance:-)
Thanks so much for watching. Patrick has a path to German citizenship that he's in the process of obtaining, which will allow us to stay and work long-term anywhere in the EU.
Welcome to France! We came across your channel by chance. We moved just a couple of months ago from the Netherlands to France. What a beautiful place you found, so many details and probably special stories behind it. Have fun exploring and good luck with the DIY projects. 😀👍
Are you familiar with the youtube channel Manor and Maker. They are Canadian's who bought a chateau. They have been holding retreats for artists. Steve is a graphic designer and artist. His wife makes many beautiful things with fabric. I believe your in the same region as Chateau De La Grifferaie. They bought a Chateau in the Loire Valley to hold study abroad sessions for college students. He was a college professor and she is a interior designer.
So happy to have found your elegant and charming site❤😊. I follow a few sites in France like the two you mentioned and if I were 20 yrs. younger, would do exactly what you are doing. ❤❤❤ your new home!!!!!
Just found your vlog, starting from the first one and going to binge watch to the latest one. This is a beautiful home, with much potential. Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to see what you’re going todo to it. Best wishes from Australia
How wonderful to find y’all I like y’all watched BBC and château diaries and channel 4 during in the pandemic and am addicted to the château life. I’m an Austinite majority of my life I now live in Lockhart which I’m sure you know where that is thinking of selling my big house and I would love to move to France, but that’s a different story. Good luck I’ll be keeping up with y’all.

Indeed it has! It still has a lot of good qualities, but no longer has that sleepy college town feel or the artists' hangout vibe. Artists & musicians can't afford it anymore! Thanks for watching.

Been binging your channel’s offerings ❤and tho I’ve never really been to France I do speak French 😂you mentioned that Beth teaches, what do you do Patrick? You’re super handy; you’re taking on work that I’d have no confidence in trying myself! I lived in Norway for a decade in an old farmhouse but things are a bit different there on the continent.
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you're enjoying our videos. An old farmhouse in Norway must have been lovely. Patrick is a web developer by day and a DIY "weekend warrior" type. 😅
Yes it really does feel like it picked us. Everything just fell into place at the right time, worked out well, and we love the place even more now than when we first saw it. 😊 Thanks for watching!
Apparently the front facade is older than the back part of the house. But we don't understand how/when/why it was built the way it was yet. Hoping to talk to the previous owner soon who knows the history. Thanks for watching!
@@AustintoAmboiseFun thing to do if you have time and Can read French is to go through the "recensements" (census) Most of them are online and you can see who lived in the house back then. There is probably a group of local généalogistes who could help you with it. Mind though, it's a rabbit hole when you start 😉 There are also places in the archives (not sure where: the cadastre maybe) where you can find the History of a house. It was obviously built by a family with a good amount of money and a taste for History. Wonderful property! It gives off vibes of the style that is called light Academia nowadays. It it were my house that's the Vibe I would go for. 😊
Merci beaucoup! Love the term Light Academia. I've been seeing a lot of stuff like that on Pinterest lately. And also "Modern Victorian." The style we'll be going for has similarities to both of those. Thanks for watching! 😊
Would you be willing to share the process of actually purchasing; working with a realtor, fees, taxes, price, etc.??? I am so very interested in watching your progress and taking lots of notes...

Being a foreigner living in France in a very much older house than yours, yet made of the same material, I would strongly recommend that you speak to a stone mason about what you are going to put on your inside walls where you have taken off the material. I would suggest lime plaster as it is traditional and allows the stone to breathe. You can get the name and number of one from the local Marie. Bonne chance!!!
You sound just like us! We are moving to France next year and we currently live in Seguin (near Austin) and we have a YOuTube channel as well. We have rented an RV for two weeks in August to explore France and the areas we are thinking of moving. Would love to meet you! Look forward to your videos!

subscribed! Do you plan on doing a Q and A, I was wondering what type of previous experience you have in carpentry, plumbing, etc. to be taking up a big project like this?
Thanks so much for subscribing! We may do a Q&A in the future, as our channel grows and people have questions. We have experience renovating, but we're not trades people. We hire pros as needed, for things like plumbing & electrical.
Even to rent it is difficult for a French middle class...😅! Good luck. The house looks great. You voice trails off from time to time.
Thanks for watching! We're working to improve our voiceovers.
My dream as well. All the best to you both from Connecticut 😊
Merci beaucoup! Hope your dream comes true! 😊
Welcome to France! We came across your channel by chance. We moved just a couple of months ago from the Netherlands to France. What a beautiful place you found, so many details and probably special stories behind it. Have fun exploring and good luck with the DIY projects. 😀👍
Thanks so much! We can't wait to learn the stories of this house - it's so intriguing. Best wishes for you in your new home as well!
Congratulations🎉
Merci beaucoup! 😊
Yep! We follow both of their channels on RUclips. They're great. 🙂 Thanks for watching!
So happy to have found your elegant and charming site❤😊. I follow a few sites in France like the two you mentioned and if I were 20 yrs. younger, would do exactly what you are doing. ❤❤❤ your new home!!!!!
Merci beaucoup! Thanks for watching!
c'est manifique! hâte de voir cette aventure se dérouler.
Merci beaucoup, Theresa! Parles tu Francais?

Howdy! 🤠 Thanks so much for following our channel. Of course we know Lockhart!
Are you able to speak to the process of purchasing a property in France being from the US? Any challenges or benefits? Lovely spot in a lovely town!
The process is very long, quite complicated, and different than we are used to in the U.S.
Looks amazing @ lots of scope for dreaming.
Indeed there is! 😊 Thanks for watching.
We visited Austin in 1984. It was a really lovely town. Sadly, I understand it's changed quite a bit.
Indeed it has! It still has a lot of good qualities, but no longer has that sleepy college town feel or the artists' hangout vibe. Artists & musicians can't afford it anymore! Thanks for watching.
Cool place to live!!
It really is! We feel quite fortunate to be able to. Thanks for watching!
Proficiat bij de aankoop van jullie prachtig huis wat mooie details ik ben benieuwd naar het vervolg grtts uit Belgié
Thanks so much for watching!
Great house. Loads of potential. How much did you pay for it?
The pricing of homes in Amboise is varied of course, based on size, location, condition, etc. We were lucky to find a house and garden of this size right in the old quarter. It seems to be a bit of a rarity. But here's the website for the realtors that sold us this house, Nestenn. You can browse their listings to get some idea: nestenn.com/?action=listing&prestige=0&transaction=acheter&list_ville=37400+Amboise
Don’t remove the floral wallpaper! It’s gorgeous!! and so French.
It's in really bad condition, and 1970s florals aren't our taste. It's not original or historic to the house or anything. Thanks for watching!
Bonne chance!!
Chuck in Northern New England
Merci beaucoup!
It's Year of the Dragon -- that integrates your purchase with Timeline of change. Bravo! 🐉🐉
Yes! And I was born in a dragon year also. It just all feels right. 🐉 Thanks for watching!
OK. Ist episode watched. Just lovely place you picked, OR (IT picked YOU?)…….greetings from Australia
Yes it really does feel like it picked us. Everything just fell into place at the right time, worked out well, and we love the place even more now than when we first saw it. 😊 Thanks for watching!
Your new house does indeed look charming, such a variety of tiles and moulded characters, love it. The back of the house looks older than the front?
@@AustintoAmboise interesting 🤔
Would you be willing to share the process of actually purchasing; working with a realtor, fees, taxes, price, etc.??? I am so very interested in watching your progress and taking lots of notes...
The process is very long, quite complicated, and different than we are used to in the U.S. We worked with The Adrian Leeds Group - adrianleeds.com/ - which specializes in helping Americans buy property in France.
Yes that's what we're planning to do. Thanks for watching!
You sound just like us! We are moving to France next year and we currently live in Seguin (near Austin) and we have a YOuTube channel as well. We have rented an RV for two weeks in August to explore France and the areas we are thinking of moving. Would love to meet you! Look forward to your videos!
Cool! Nice to meet you. Thanks for watching! We'll have to check out your videos too. 😀
Will you share with us all of your preparation and logistics itctook to make your move to France? Have you moved full time?
We have not moved in full time yet; it will probably be 2-3 years before we do. As for the logistics, the process of buying a house in France is very long, quite complicated, and different than we are used to in the U.S. We worked with The Adrian Leeds Group - adrianleeds.com/ - which specializes in helping Americans buy property in France. I was in Amboise last summer. Lovely town, and your house has lovely period features. I hope you will share how much you paid for it.
The pricing of homes in Amboise is varied of course, based on size, location, condition, etc. We were lucky to find a house and garden of this size right in the old quarter.
