Listen, I dc for Xbox at all I have gamepass on my PC so I played it, I gotta say it's one most intense jaw dropping exoirences I've had this year. It would be right at home on ps cause it's def more a Sony game then Xbox, the graphics are top notch there are no better, audio is on diff level, ninja theory poured there soul into this game, now having said all that and I hope everyone plays it at least once, that's it once it is absolutely not a game u would wanna play more then once, it is so tightly narrated and lead once u seen it u seen it

Keep in mind, these are people who would put other "narrative games" like The Last of Us/Uncharted, God of War, and Horizon in that same camp, too. Games that are actually pretty gameplay-forward. Those are "bad movies" usually. But now a 6 hour game where you walk from point A to B, listen to chatter, nad maybe occasionally engage in the most basic, after-thought combat in AAA gaming is supposed to be their big win. None of Playstation's "bad movies" play like Hellblade 2. The gameplay loop is nonexistent and its fair to point that out. And, yeah, I kinda get a kick out of rubbing it in Xbox fanboys faces since they usually have extra vocal opinions about narrative single-player games.
It's flop because nobody is buying it and playing it. The numbers on steam are catastrophic. The worst launch from a Microsoft game. Right now is just the biggest flop of the gen with numbers lower then redfall.

Stellar Blade demo is more fun.
There is more gameplay in stellar blade demo than in the entire hellblade 2 experience

When the game was first revealed years ago, the studio didn’t even start working on it.
Phil just wanted to “fill” a slot in the event, one of the many horrible management decisions he’s known for.

It sounds like they should have just gone the direction of a Quantic Dream or Super Massive (Man of Medan) direction and atleast it would have had more actual story and different kinds of environments.

This is more like a play than a movie where the main character is speaking to an audience.
It's quite an achievement how the somehow made the gameplay worse than the original. The combat seems more like QTE events than the ever before. Besides the walking, reminds of a laserdisk game from the 80's...SMH

1886 could have definitely been fleshed out more so. But it was still a great game for what it was and its time.
And it was more than a 5 hour stint if you took your time and enjoyed the story itself.

Instead of realistic combat you want Fantasy combat. Idgaf that games are 6 levels and to the point, it's better then a lot of these 50-100 hour games with nothing but filler that make me not even want to play a 2nd time..

It sounds like everything in this game always poured into the graphics and as a result it’s not a game that the Series X can properly run. The game is capped at 30 FPS and the fights are basically quick time events triggering pre loaded animations. It’s a shame because I’m a huge Ninja Theory fan (I defended DMC when it was released). I hope they get another chance, but based on the abysmal engagement, I’m not hopeful.

It was xbox's first release of 2024, and may is just about over. They NEEDED a W, with all thats been happenning with them this entire gen, and they chose to release a $50 digital only, niche title with a small fan base. Wouldnt they want their first release of the year to be a title that can reach a wider audience? The higher ups cant do anything right, seriously what are they thinking? How is hellblade 2 any different then a movie? Everyone will have the same experience, there is no different approaches, or walkthroughs, in actual games, some people can do different quests/side quests at different times in the game, meet or not meet certain npcs etc. its literally watching a movie and rewinding it for the next person to have the same exact walkthrough.

It says a lot about this game that they poured so much into the graphics and I still sometimes second guess whether I'm seeing footage from the first game or this one.

I am really enjoying the game and story. I don't get the 5 hour bit, I'm currently at 9 hrs and still playing (Beach Scene with Giant from Trailer).
I can’t imagine taking 9 hours to beat this game.

It feels like people were expecting “Hellblade 2” to become a souls like experience with platforming elements.
1:42 this is a huge point which I contend when people say this is "true next gen".
It's a gutted game that pools all resources on a single aspect, which goes against the point of next gen.
This is an interactive film at best, a visual tech demo at worst.
Combat is slight step above FMV games. Too scripted and tied to Mocap movies. No real animations or transitions variety to make combat feel in any way engaging. Huge miss for Ninja Theory. I guess they didn't want to make a game.

Forza horizon 5: great
Halo infinite: slightly below mid
Redfall: trash
High five rush: good game
Starfield:not good
Hellblade 2: not good
Indiana jones: looks mid so far
Avowed: not looking good so far
Fable: no where to be found

I respect your opinion and mention some fiar points. The only thing i will say is, as a mental health professional and a lifelong player of games, Ninja Theory absolutely nailed the imerssion and an amainzg just at representing sever mental health and every bit of the gameplay and even combat fully shows the ups and downs and the expeience that one has who suffers and strugles with these severe mental health and illnesses every single day.
Even the difference from 1 and 2 actually makes quite a bit sense as to how we learn and grow with mental health.
But if you feel like it was bad, thats all good homie, it didnt work for you and thats totally okay. I dont think this was going to land for everyone, it is very divisive for sure. With peace nand love. I hope i dont get any hate for simply exlressin how i felt about the game, and what most mwntal hwalth professionals would also say (in regards to representing the things she is going through).

I can tell you why Hellblade 2 is a bad game:
1: The first game was nothing more than a glorified tech demo posing as a full game. So the second game did not have a good foundation to build apon.
2: Ninja Theory has never been a great video game developer. In all their years they had one good game, with all their other games only being ok-ish. Why did anyone ever think that Hellblade 2 was going to be some type of smash hit? What evidence was ever there to backup the belief that Hellblade 2 was going to be good? Tango Gameworks is a hundred times the developer that Ninja Theory is, and that studio was shutdown because Microsoft is run by a bunch of morons.
I hope you make a video on that knock-off ps3 game rise of ronin with the best horse animations ive ever seen in a game lol, keep that same energy and nit-pick that game along with stellar blade 2 GOTY according to ponies smh stay delu-lu..

I’ve been watching Jez’s play through on gaming grindhouse. The voices in her head got pretty annoying. It’s good thing there wasn’t more combat. Listening to Senua scream almost every time she swings her sword got really tiring.
I can agree that it does. I do think an argument can be made for that to be the point of simulating her condition.

General consensus is it's not really a good game. ranging from around a 5-7. Hard pressed to say it's an 8 and above. However, with that being said. Some people will see an 8 in this game, just like some saw an 8+ in Starfield. It's cool, but there are some games you can play/watch/test and know they aren't good regardless of graphics.
Impressive tech demo, but it can barely be called a game. The loss of Tango Gameworks feels even worse now.
Torchblade 2 senua needs light
The combat in this game heavily reminds me of Callisto Protocol. And those are *not* good memories. Hellblade 2 is a total dumpster fire in everything except graphics, and the graphics by itself is irrelevant because the art direction is so bland it could as well be non-existent. It is not just an interactive movie, it's a really bad movie.

I don't like the reviews of "They essentially did the same thing" and then score them lower than the original.
HB1 released in 2017 and was a much smaller team. I think you do have to evolve you can’t produce the same thing and expect the same praise that’s why we see games usually step it up with sequels.

Playing as Senua, you get to experience the fear and torment of the mind of someone with schizophrenia.
Imagine not being able to trust your own eyes & ears! From facial expressions, to voices screaming for help in the distance, to the voices in her head constantly berating & filling her with doubt… and then there’s the flashbacks from her tormented past.
You never know what is real so the story is open to your interpretation, which I find beautiful.

It lacks everything a video game needs and that’s the problem. Pretty visuals and an average story with decent audio isn’t going to make this better especially if your thing is telling a story and perspective of a woman with psychosis. It’s weak in the places it requires to be immaculate as a narrative cinematic experience. Again this is an opinion we can both have valid opinions.

Yes a review is an opinion. I did articulate my opinion well and would love for you to point to specific examples where I don’t provide any details to get my point across.
Puzzles are simple and don’t require much effort, I showed on screen footage of that.
Combat is shallow and heavily choreographed and lack depth. Showed an example of that
Story is tricky I can’t just blatantly make the entire review a spoiler video so I can only briefly touch on that.
Graphics are great but came with compromises, sterile environments, closed off areas, and I showed visual example of that.
To say I didn’t provide any details is disingenuous and furthermore an opinion can still offer constructive criticism.
And yes of course I completed the game which I have the achievement to prove it. NLXNE on Xbox you can search it up yourself all my achievements are public.
Long story short: it's what Xbox fanboys say Sony's games are. But actually.
It is to God of War (2018) what The Order 1886 was to Gears of War. Its baffling because I know Ninja Theory can do good gameplay. Its all they were known for is gameplay prior to Hellblade 1. Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, and DmC all had very fun melee gameplay

Some of us like realistic combat. A lotta yall never held a sword in your life & it shows. Some of us don't like enemies dissapearing after they fall, or fluttering into a million pieces of ash. In what game are you shoving a blade down someone's collarbone and into their chest cavity?
You can have realistic combat and still have great gameplay mechanics with depth. Hellblade has very shallow gameplay mechanics and the combat is inferior to the first HB. I encourage intelligent conversation, I know everyone won’t agree with me but at the least I want to read an intelligent rebuttal.
Who care combat doesn't have to be real just fun 😉 😜

@@NIXNE Well from the vibe I get, this is a game that uses Norse mythology as its narrative. God of War (2018/Ragnarok) does the same. In Hellblade 2 there is basically no gameplay right? God of War has it and it’s leagues ahead. In Hellblade 2 the campaign is only five hours long. God of Wars campaign is much longer with a rich experience, yeah?

i haven’t played it, but from what it looks like, the game is a huge missed opportunity. imagine if they’d chosen ambitious game play instead of graphics, imagine if the new game expanded on the original’s depth instead of simplifying everything.
i really feel like this game would only seem good if you never played the first one, which makes a kind of sense, given everything that’s happened
One funny thing seeing the reception of Hellblade 2 is how Xbox zealots defend this game that really is 95% walking. After years of degrading PlayStation exclusives calling them Walking Sims.. when obviously PS exclusives have engaging gameplay mechanics and they're all very different.

It is strange that these people come on in here and say Hellblade 2 is a terrible game, when its just a continuation of the first with better graphics and sound.
The game is about someone suffering from psychosis. Its not a God of War remake, an experience I'd call it.
So I say ignore this person and play the game for yourselves, its niche game and it wasnt made for everyone.

@NIXNE What I mentioned in my first comment is that this is a "continuation of the first." If you dislike the first, you'll hate second. I see this being pretty simple. All you're trying to do is stop people playing a game you dislike. Let them make their own decisions, as you are not the arbiter of truth here.

@@NIXNE Probably you did not play with the first one. HB2 is exactly like the first one only with better graphics and sound. It is strongly focusing on the psychoses of humans which is something you do not find almost anywhere ... it is not a masterpiece but it is not bad. I enjoyed both of them. It is and never was an action pact game, that said it is clear that this game is not for you . Oh and stop the cap with the "massive dislikes" as you got only 7. In my opinion the game has great graphics, sound, it is played in Iceland so yes there is not much to see ... travel a little , it is true that it misses a little bit on gameplay but that was expected as it is as in the first one. It is and always was a game which was considered trash but also liked by those who enjoy something different. And be real you are a plastic worshiper it is obvious for everybody who checks your profile. If you make the effort to put out a video at least be honest, but it is your video and your opinion so i can respect that.

This game is not for everyone. It's just different. It's a 7.5-8 out of 10. It exceeds in visuals and sound, but it lacks everything else. I can see some people enjoying this game

@WeeWeeJumbo I played the game and that's my opinion. You probably haven't played it. I enjoy diversity in games. There is nothing wrong with short games like this. The experience on a big screen TV and a headset is something different. There are plenty of games with great gameplay like stellar blade. Cinematic games with mediocre gameplay can exist as well.
It exceeds in visuals but lacks in everything else, yet you think it's a 7.5-8/10. Visuals are one of the last things on the list that makes a game good.
Gameplay - it's got to be fun and enjoyable,
mechanics - easy to use without being clunky confusing or just plain weird.
Combat/puzzles, etc : engaging and fun, offering a challenge to the majority.
Story - good, not boring or politically charged, it's supposed to be an escape from reality.
Visuals - obviously important, but without the above, it's just good visuals and no substance. It's like a good-looking woman/man that has a low IQ. Ropes you in with the looks but boring as ditch water.

I played the first hell blade and enjoyed it, so I was expecting something similar on the sequel. A game can do two things very well and lack in everything else and still be a 7-8 in my opinion. I just looked up the metacritic score and it's sitting at an 8.1

@@NIXNE let me start by saying I think that Hellblade 2 is a bad game but to say that it’s worse than Red fall is asinine and here’s why, first of all before we even get to the quality of the games the performance of redfall was so horrendous that you couldn’t even play it properly at launch but besides that with Hellblade 2s great graphics, and the great art design, and the great level design, you could get a sense of anticipation or a sense of suspense in certain moments while you walk, Redfall is a semi horror game but you never get a sense of any emotion at all while you play. In Hellblade 2 you feel claustrophobia at times, you have interesting characters to meet, Hellblade can at least be a little challenging sometimes with the whole combat Perry system, But with Redfall, there are is no interesting characters, the game is very easy, and there is no interesting story elements, and there is no good audio or good game design. Games are about craftsmanship as much as they are about senseless gameplay even though gameplay is important and should be at the center of every game but there’s much more to games then the action your character is participating In at any given moment. Hellblade 2 is boring and you could have some dumb fun in Redfall but there is a difference between having more fun in a game, and a game actually being better in quality and Redfall might have more dumb fun moments but it’s not better crafted. Like for example I could have fun with just photo mode alone in Hellblade 2 because of the great world they created, or I can just be invested in the story and playing just to see what happens next in the chapters in Hellblade 2 it’s about craftsmanship! All that being said, I hate Hellblade 2.

Three things that are obvious about these negative reviewers. 1. They never played the first game. 2.They are simply not a fan of the series or brand. .3 They are sony fans bashing the game for not playing like a Naughty Dog Game. From a developer standpoint, you can tell the game has some things that scream unfinished. But its a really good game that could have been a great game with another year or so or a generation skip. But by no means an awful game.
You’re wrong at every point. I played the original, I have been on XBOX since its inception and love many of their IP, and I actually criticized TLOU2 while everyone said it was a 10/10 masterpiece.
If you said it was worst than red fall then having played both you don't know what you are talking about. If you played the first Hellblade it is more of the same and a continuation of the story following the North Men who killed her people.
