I got an Epiphone Casino Worn (olive drab for me) about 6 months ago & was starting to play, stretching out the strings so it would stay in tune, & then cancer treatments got more intense, & was in & out of hospital & cancer centers for other treatments & so it sits on my guitar rack next to my Epiphone acoustic, collecting dust. It was an impulse buy for me as well & I kept going back & forth on whether to buy it or not. Finally did & from what little I played it, it sounded great to me, as is. Just hoping I can get back to the point where I feel up to playing again as I wanted to record the songs I’ve written with it. It’s been a dream guitar of mine, being a Beatles fan, & I’m glad I bought it…just the timing of the purchase was off.
Hey thanks for watching, I’m sorry to hear that you are going through some tough times, my brother is going through the cancer treatment too. I wish you the best and hope you get back to playing and recording super fast! They are great guitars eh 👊🏼
Hey! Thanks for the kind words 🙏🏻 I do like a bit of a fight with the guitar, I have slightly heavier strings on it to give a bit of resistance so it can be a fight at times 😊👍🏻
I just ordered an olive drab from sweetwater, it’ll be here tomorrow. Looking forward to playing with it, and it’s my first experience with epiphone p90’s. I have a habit of tinkering as well so we’ll see if they stick around. Great, honest video. When it comes to impulsive buys the struggle is real.
I have this guitar and mine needed a lot of work to be any good. New nut, new bridge, new tuners, sanded the goop off the neck. But now it's my most played guitar. Plugged and unplugged it is a joy.
Just discovered this poking around on YT. Great video and explanation. I went through most of what you went through on my way to buying a worn olive drab. I love the guitar. I will not touch the stock electronics as I’ve fallen in love with how it sounds against my other guitars…unique. It’s is quite an easy guitar to play also (the thin neck). In the end it’s an option for me.
😎. I also bought a black worn on impluse as a blues and rockabilly guitar. Even though the stock parts are all fine, I also swapped everything except the bridge. Grover tuners, Lollar pickups and Mojotone wiring harness and put on black knobs. I love the guitar now and it is now my #1 over a Fender tele and a Gretsch electromatic MIK.
Hey Andy....great video and examples of how versatile the casino is. BTW, couldn't agree more about obsessing then buying your next great guitar then selling it on Reverb 🤣. Guilty as charged!!!!
Hi Andy - I've seen you play live a few occasions, with Fiona and co. (and maybe others?) but didn't know you have a YT channel! I also have a an Epi Casino ('Worn Denim') - very pleased with it but tend not to gig with it for reasons I don't entirely understand. Best wishes
Even when I’ve ordered a guitar it’s been through a shop where I played it first. Both Americans instruments I’ve bought I’ve had for years now. Another reason why I buy from shops is because they are the reason Fender , Gibson and most manufacturers even exist.
I got same but in worn blue. I like finish because you don't need to worry about dings, fingerprints, etc. And save a couple $100 too. Like your review: "personable" comes to mind, with a touch of humor. I happen to be a Beatles fan & this guitar nails their mid sixties sound to a tee.
I live near beach in Thailand... the denim blue has taken on a greenish cast.... except on the back where my belly rubs it. Saw one for sale on FB & he had same issue... he thought due to being in case too much, but mine is never in case... gig bag. And of course all the metal gets patina-ized, Oh, falling out of love: put it aside for 6 months or a year. You'll think "What an amazing guitar! why did I ever want to ditch this?" Familiarity breeds boredom perhaps
I've got the Olive Drab, replaced the pick guard with a black one and all knobs to black, it looks beeeeautiful! Just wondering what the capo is you're using is? I saw it sitting above the nut as you were playing and always thought about going for one of those 'yoke' style capos...
I love casinos traded one in a few years ago and regretted it. I had one in natural and it had a D profile neck which I loved. I now have an Eastman T64v which I love. Feel tempted to try the casino worn and natural to see which one I prefer. Great playing and video. I am now a subscriber!
Thanks for the kinds words and thanks for watching and subscribing 🙏🏻 That Eastman T64v …… I would love to get my hands on one of those! I have one of their acoustics and it is so good! 😊
@andyknightguitarist yes love Eastmans. They have great guitars. I have the solid body Juliet which is amazing. Lucky I work near the 'golden guitar triangle' so I have the chance to play lots of guitars
Great playing! The Casino sounds great! I’m considering buying one but I’m concerned with feedback on stage. You don’t seem to have any issues with it playing live.
You could say that.... Just bought an old Hondo II H732ml The Les Paul copy like the one I had almost 40 years ago, a new in box loaded Noventa Tele mated to a new Player Tele neck, and yes, a Worn Casino in olive drab. Love everything about it, flaws and all.
I bought this same guitar in worn ebony 2nd hand right after they came out and put a bone nut on it and had a setup done properly...I love this instrument and will never sell it. Light as a feather, great unplugged. Love the way the neck fits the arm...it's a great almost acoustic electric and the P90s go from clean and warm at 7 to warm breakup at 10....I use a GE7 ep pedal to dial in the tone but what a great guitar...I also have the Inspired by Gibson es 335 58 replica with the thick neck....between these two guitars I can cover a lot of sonic ground. Hate the pickguard being that close to the switch so lost the pickguard. Great band you've got there...my idea of a good time! Enjoy your Casino!
This rings true for me. Made an online purchase on a squier that was disappointing and had quality issues. I went to a shop and tried a brunch of guitars. I'd seen these casinos but it wasn't for me. I took home a revstar, which came as a surprise to me.
Bought a black worn. Got it for very cheap (250$) cause the head stock was completely seperated from the neck with another fracture near the body on the neck. 3 weeks of work later and its slowly becoming my number 1 player
Impulsive indeed, but usually i find stuff that needs to be tinkered with, currently eyeballing a Cort Sourse with sketchy wiring. Thinking of rebel90 p90ies I found your vid of the casino to see what p90ies sound like in a hollowbody. Nice gitaar & playing. Should I.....
I don‘t buy anything impulsive, and so with guitars. And that‘s why I don't sell anything either. I like to tinker on guitars, till I like them very much. Then they are forever mine! Only one time I light hearted put my bid on ebay on a lightly used BC Rich koa mockingbird as a „joke“, not hoping that it would sell that low. Won the auction and almost regreted first, but turns out to be one of my best guitars now out of 9. 🤷🏻♂️
That's the darkest Laurel fretboard I have ever seen. If you are a fat neck guy, try a Casino Coupe. 339 size Casino with 50's neck. They stopped making them, but you can still find used ones at a good price. Playing is excellent!
Oh nice! I might have to check one of those out! Yep I was pretty happy with the colour of the fretboard. Thanks for the kind words and thank you for watching too 👍🏻
@@andyknightguitarist Glad I found the channel. You have a new subscriber! If you shop for a Coupe, hold out for an older one with Rosewood. They pop up on Reverb every once in a while for +/- $500.
I like our local music gear store and the people working there, i had a great impulsive moment there when i saw a Gretsch semihollow which i just had to have (i play Metal/Doom). So visiting the local store does not avoid me from spontaneous big purchases. And i think buying online is less risky because (especially with Thomann) i have weeks to try it at home and in rehearsals, time to think about it and then i can still send it back to get back the money. I bought a Duesenberg for over 2k online, on Reverb from a small shop in Germany, they shipped it and i never had to send it back.
@@andyknightguitarist Seems like that! And tbh i rarely buy stuff online when i can't send it back (except some pedals, but these are easier to sell used), i talked to the seller to make that sure before buying the Duesenberg but it's my main guitar since i got it. Also ordered a Dean Z Select once, beautiful guitar with a nasty Floyd Rose... after 2-3 weeks of messing around with it i've already had enough so i decided to send it back before it's too late. Buying gear is always a question of philosophy and it's hard to find something which "fits perfectly".

You know, I didn't even think about raising the polepieces to help with the neck pick up! I have no idea why not, so thanks very much for the tip, I will try that right away! Good value, very tasty playing, you will notice zero difference upgrading pickups , the PRO P90s are pretty good. What you should try is a set of flatwound strings like D’Addarrio chromes… they really give a retro vibe… Beatles City

I am the same as you except I dont sell anything. I have the worn ebony casino and it is my favourite and most frequently played guitar. I want another one with flatwounds on it. Also I think it is mainly a rhythm guitar, great with lush reverb. But as a lead guitar its a bit too nasely for me. I think the Sheraton or a Jazzmaster is the preferred choice here.
Here is question. Paranormal surf green telecaster or the Epiphone casino olive green?oh! And I have the Blonde Deluxe Reverb Tone master. So this is a great comparison too.
@@andyknightguitarist but which is my problem. I own the paranormal surf green telecaster, but something makes me want the Epiphone casino. I played one I'm Guitar Center near me. It really does sound fantastic.
@@andyknightguitarist but here is the kicker, it's either the Casino or the Tele. I am at "wife limit guitars". So I would have to trade in the paranormal for the Casino. But I do have an Esquire with a treble bleed Esquire switching installed with a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster pickup. Lol
Andy...it's as if I was talking to a mirror. I bought the same guitar in a local shop. I walked away from it after playing it. Went home. Almost walked in the house and then....my brain said...that is the best and least expensive guitar you will ever have the pleasure of owning...a stretch of a justification...but I did go back and get it. Still hangs right where I can grab it anytime. Odds are you will trade or sell an expensive guitar than an inexpensive one.
Haha, yeah they are really nice guitars eh! I know what you mean about expensive vs inexpensive. I’ve had a few more expensive guitars in the past and ended up trading or getting rid of. I have a 96 Fender Japanese 50s reissue strat that I’ve had for 20 years, that was a cheap buy back then and it has out lived a PRS a Gibson and a Suhr, not saying that those guitars were/are bad though, it’s more about me I think 😂
The good olde days in the 1980s, when I paid £400 quid for a total pile of crap that needed a ton of work right away, which I could never get right lol. I have the Epiphone Casino above this in Bone. I have other hollow, semi-hollow, so I knew what I was buying. Awful cheap nasty running gear, I swapped out the crap Chinese plastic nut, basic tuners, rattling bridge, and hollow metal Tailpiece, and replaced them with quality parts. I kept the electronics and pickups as I didn't mind them. After a decent setup, I ended up with a guitar that's great to play I love and play it every day, it's my main axe. I used a lot of parts that the USA-built Epiphone casino uses. It's as nice as my late 1990's Gibson 335. These guitars are made cheap, and mass-produced, but can be made excellent with quality parts fitted. A modder guitar for sure. PS, the US-made ones are amazing, but they are £3000!
For me, i wouldnt count thinking of buying one for years, forgetting, then seeing one in a guitar store and jumping on it since it was the last one, then spending upwards of $300 on purely cosmetic modifications as "impulsive"
@@andyknightguitarist loves it. He is a student (and generally a bassist) and frustrated that he can’t move air in his thin walled accommodation. But he can play the casino acoustically.
‘the limited access to the highest frets is not really an issue, if anything it makes you explore other parts of the neck’ is definitely one of the most positive examples of cognitive resonance reduction i have heard in a while 😂
Congratulations. These are great guitars.. the hollow design is traditional and works as you want it to. The Casino/330 design is a delightful acoustic experience. keep it simple with pickups. make sure they are good- and get of the topic. Go to the wiring harness like you did! Seriously, these are very well made Chinese guitars.. some in Japan. .. but for the money.. they are a STEAL. Get them while you can.
I thought it was just my indecisive and neurotic nature...nothing was good enough..send it back..try another, or another pickup, or the opposite type of guitar, or or or... could have spent all that time practicing...
Why to buy worn or raped new guitar? Do you really like to pay extra for them for ruining rhat laquer for you? Can't get any good point for that, because you can allways buy used guitar, that allready have had "life" to show that it is used guitar. Just for fake, as usual nowdays?
Yeah probably not everyone’s cup of tea, don’t worry though no lacquer was harmed in the making of this guitar, there was non applied in the first place. As far as I’m aware there was no up charge for this finish either. So all good, there are so many decent guitars out there for all tastes so if this isn’t your bag there will be something else I’m sure. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
@@andyknightguitarist when you sell it worn or relic'd it is also "safer" to send, because all dents from delivery can be said it is meant to be there.😉 For me that older wood is the thing, not ruined finnish on a new guitar.
😂😂😂
For me, i wouldnt count thinking of buying one for years, forgetting, then seeing one in a guitar store and jumping on it since it was the last one, then spending upwards of $300 on purely cosmetic modifications as "impulsive"
Purely cosmetic because i think the guitar sounds good on its own.
Ha, my son just bought (with my money) a black worn from Peach too.
Ooooh lucky boy! Although Dads wallet is not so lucky eh 😂 Does he like it?
@@andyknightguitarist loves it. He is a student (and generally a bassist) and frustrated that he can’t move air in his thin walled accommodation. But he can play the casino acoustically.
Haha nice 👍🏻
I just checked, and ever single thing that I have ever purchased from REVERB, I have also since sold or traded away. Every. Single. Thing. 😅
Haha! I checked my old listings on Reverb the other day and there was quite a bit on there that I was thinking “Wait! Why did I sell that!?” 🤦🏻♂️😂
...Andy "Black" Knight...☘🍀☘🍀
I love my Casino .......
not an impulse, its a great guitar :)
Yeah for sure, I lucked out for once! One of my favourites now 😊👍🏻
Neurosis and obsession..just like me..and still doing it :)
😂 We are strange beasts eh 😂
Relax, buying a Casino is never a mistake. But I would never buy a guitar (or car/bike) I hadn't tried first
This guy is the British me.
😂😂😂😂😂
How did you know that I was British?……I thought I hid my accent 😜😜😂😂👍🏻
@@andyknightguitarist lucky guess 😂
wow..seems like you are good band...and player.. :)
Hey, thanks 🙏🏻😊
Guitars are 100% impulsive…..I also bought this guitar…
I thought it was just my indecisive and neurotic nature...nothing was good enough..send it back..try another, or another pickup, or the opposite type of guitar, or or or... could have spent all that time practicing...
Haha yep I totally get that 😂
Why to buy worn or raped new guitar?
@@andyknightguitarist when you sell it worn or relic'd it is also "safer" to send, because all dents from delivery can be said it is meant to be there.😉
For me that older wood is the thing, not ruined finnish on a new guitar.
Yeah, not my cup of Tea, just wondered why people think that old looking parts makes new guitar be like old ones.😉
Boomers have made impact?
Yeah I seriously doubt it sounds like or was meant to look like an old one 🤷🏻♂️it does sound, feel and look good though….to me at least 😊
