As a long time collector that has all of the larger castle builds, it's always interesting to see what the collectors market is doing. Of course, a set is only worth what someone's will to pay for it, and sadly, it's only been since around 2014 that the 'collectors/investors' market blew up and the exploitive pricing began.
I got a wonderful copy of 6086 with a fairly good condition box. Was my childhood dream set, finally got a copy in my 30s. $75 for the set, $80 for the box. Castle theme is the best theme LEGO has. Majisto is my favorite.

Now it's a decrease in quality and an increase in prices. There is no reason to buy genuine products, it's better to buy counterfeit products with even better quality than genuine ones kislux
Sadly, even if I buy an authentic bag, some people will think it's fake because I'm a person of color. But some people will also think my kislux is authentic.

The best value castle set in the current market is 10305 Lion's knight castle and 31120 creator 3 in 1 IMO.
They are a better quality and build
I am very lucky to have all of these sets. All are built and my kingdoms are at peace lol

I recently bought the Black Knight's Castle, but it cost around $300, so I don't think I could've spent $400 on it.
I got a set that’s estimate value was $300 sealed, and got it for $150. Good thing these sets value come on a range depending on quantity available.
