Totally agree about the absence of sponsorship. I stopped listening to the podcasts because of the overuse of sponsorship interrupting the flow. I don't mind having them at the beginning or end but having constant repetitive interruptions ruined it for me in the past so I gave up.
I’m sorry but this comment has always frustrated me. EVERY podcast i listen to has sponsorship ads in the middle. You have the authority to skip them. This is her job and it’s how she gets paid.

I also know this is one of three channels and the other two are already well established and likely making good money from RUclips itself, even without sponsorships. The ads on her other channels that are within the videos are much more organic and they don’t interrupt the flow. I’m sure it’s a lot of legwork to coordinate all of that and I don’t begrudge her doing a simpler method and wanting to monetize her new podcast channel. Remembering how that was, I found myself pleasantly surprised and really pleased to not have to pass by those repetitive ads throughout this very fun episode. I find feedback valuable. Starting something new is a process. It’s not a diss…
I really think you've made a great choice opting for a table rather than an island, its far more versatile and will be ideal when baby comes, sitting round the table prepping food or crafting etc including the baby x
As an Italian, eat in Kitchens (even just small ones) are the norm, so hearing how unusual it is in the US is wild😂 I think you'll love it Macenna! We always used the table as extra counter space and could all have proper sit down meals as a family 3 times a day without needing to use our formal dining room 😊 Leaving that for the fancy meals with guests, Christmas etc
An "eat in" kitchen isn't unusual at all in the US. In fact, the majority of homes have what we call "breakfast nooks" (which typically is a table and 4 chairs) and/or islands that accommodate seating for 4 to 6 in the kitchens where everyone can eat together. I think what she was referring to is "old style" full size dining tables in the middle of the kitchen in lieu of an actual dining room (also typical here in addition to kitchen dining).

Honestly as a mom in a family of 5, I'm in the kitchen most of my day. It's definitely an important space that needs to be not only clean & functional.... but beautiful. For my mental health it needs to feel like a space I want to be in.
That's my kitchen (the last one)! thank you for including my entry, i Already called my best friend and told her we have a new project 😅. I shouldve included my style, i just never thought my submission would be picked, yesterday was my birthday so I guess it was my birthday present! My style i would say is vintage contemporary. The metal parts of the cabinets do come off, but how would i add wood to replace the metal, wood glue? Also, the area where you said to put a curtain is where the heater is. I'm hoping to do something soon. Thank you again! 🎉❤
You can use wood glue, and if the piece is too big either nails or screws to really keep it in place. Happy Birthday! Send updates when you're done so hopefully we'll see it in the future too!!
As a designer, I was trying to figure out how one could improve the layout with the limitation of this space, and under-stairs kitchens came to mind. Building one would require a major renovation but would add so much footprint. By setting back an entire wall you gain floor space and could even expand the counter on the other side (L shape) to create seating with cabinets on the inside
@tonidominici hi! Thank you for trying to help. Unfortunately, I can't do that. The stairs also go to the basement.. Unless I move the stairs completely, which is very expensive (20g, probably more now) to do I am limited to my design and space 😭😭😭
@@Tiff403616Happy Birthday! 🎉 If removing the metal handle leaves a gap, you could consider use a piece of wood trim the same size as your cabinet to fill it in (possibly attaching with wood glue and brad nails) and then attach wider but thin trim on the front to make them look like shaker style cabinets (which would cover the extra wood filler piece)! Then all you'd need to do is caulk, prime and paint! Good luck!! ❤

i think an eat in kitchen is perfect fit for your home. We have had both growing up & the dining room was a waste of space in my parents second house because we NEVER used. We just weren’t formal dinner table people. We always just sat at the eat in kitchen. As i got on my own , we have never had a dining room area. Always an eat in kitchen is more homiest. So im glad you decided to make that choice.
OMG i absolutely LOVE when kinsley snuggles on your lap for these videos! I just want to wrap her in a snuggly blanket like a baby! She must sense the juicy baby inside! I redid my small kitchen which is almost the exact same layout as Tiffany’s. I love the way this house is coming together. I’m loving the eat in kitchen. Great for a family. I love the formal living room. I can just imagine your little one coming down the stairs at Xmas. I love how your second living room will one day be a great, comfortable space with good light from the windows, and a lovely back wall for your bookshelves. This place will be so amazing. For Tiffany, I know she can't open up the wall because the stairs are there, but is the cavity under the stairs being used? I don't think so, because it looks like there's a hallway next to the fridge? If it were me and budget were no issue, I'd move the uppers on the left to where the open shelving at the back is to make it feel less closed in. Then open up the area under the stairs, tuck the lowers in that area under the stairs, and then the increased footprint might even allow you to put one lower facing out, roughly across from where the stove is to create an itty bitty mini peninsula. And maybe put the open shelving where the uppers were, if that doesn't feel too top-heavy.
I was nervous when you announced you'd be redoing your kitchen 4 months before having your baby, tbh. Seeing what you're doing with the space though, and how amazing the team you're working with is, I'm so happy you pulled the trigger when you did bc now I don't have to wait years to see it either! It's going to make your family life so cozy and enriched, and I don't want to miss a minute of whatever you share with us! 🥰
Having a baby doesn't stop the world turning. I was up ladders hanging wallpaper and painting whilst 8 months pregnant. At 18/21 and 27. I've had no kitchen with new baby.. just need a sink and steriliser and fridge. We ate off paper plates when necessary. Being pregnant is the Best time to DIY. Baby is safe. Wait until trying to DIY when baby is here hahaha 😂

I’m a mom of 3 kids under 5. I can say you are very smart for starting the kitchen Reno before baby comes. I could not imagine the chaos of little kids and a kitchen renovation 😂 I’m going to start working on my kitchen “face-lift” (update cabinet fronts, backsplash, paint, hardware) this summer. Wish me luuuuck!
This was an excellent podcast. I needed to hear this. I'm in the middle of a huge home remodel kitchen, bathrooms, garage, room add-ons like mudroom, and a home office. This is a very eye opening experience. Flooring, lighting, and new windows are a huge price to pay..Labor costs are through the roof here in Florida.
MaCenna, I agree with you and have had this thought about a table in the center kitchen (think the Waltons). I have incorporated some freestanding pieces in my kitchen and prior to learning about older unfitted kitchens I would have never considered it. I have a solid oak armoire I converted into a pantry, mine is in the craftsman/farmhouse style I like. If I had the room I would add a Hoosier baking center (Hoosier Cabinet) I have a peninsula that I intended to use for baking but it is a clutter catcher the Hoosier has an enamel table top that slides in and out as needed and it is very smart design. I could see some French Provincial pieces like a hutch/china cabinet in your kitchen, the older freestanding pieces really make it feel like it has always been there and it is not a fresh build. P.S. adding bed risers can make the table a working height of the occasional time you have a project and need it to be working height. I do this on my dinning room table when I am working on sewing projects.
I don't think so, because it will be embarrassingly expensive, even for a successful youtuber. It might feel unrelatable when people see LA prices compared to other parts of the country
I live in a 1930s house and I have 100-year-old table in the kitchen. My godson and I sit there and have snacks ,play games and do his homework. I chop food items for dinner. You will find that people will go straight to your kitchen and just sit and talk have tea or coffee and it will be the hub of your home.. cozy, warm.. inviting! ❤
I love the concept of an eat-in-kitchen. There is something so beautiful of the idea of being able to gather around for family dinner in the kitchen where dinner was made :)
The first design help - I know no one asked me 😂 but I also think it would be pretty to use slate flooring in the kitchen and hallway. You could do lined up squares or diagonal/diamond placement would be awesome. We have slate where each 16x16 slate have a mixture of rust, dark & lighter gray, a tat of black, dark earthy green, and ours are not polished, no sheen, medium gray grout. If slate was picked to compliment the wood floors, it could be lovely. Slate is great for hot summers (cool to feet) but a bit chilly in cold climates in winter, but rugs can help with that. The Second design help - if homeowners are not going to change out appliances and I see they are black, painting the cabinets black with a creamy or white countertops could be pretty with a nice backsplash. You should get an dining table from Olive Ateliers so it will match the entry way table you have in the front room then get some antique black widsor back chairs or some french provincial chairs that have the linen fabric so it will look vintage/french provincial and that look is very timeless. That would be so beautiful and it screams MaCenna! I just love you and your style and you are so good at what you do so keep being you and I just love your personality you are always so positive and I love that about you. I look forward to your videos every week. I can’t wait for the baby to get here and see you and Romeo as parent y’all are gonna be great parents. I can’t wait to see the new chapter in y’all’s lives come to reality and don’t worry to much now about things because when he gets here it will all come natural to y’all and you will feel like you have been parent all along. Everyone struggles here and there and that is natural but the mommy instincts will kick in and you will know exactly what your baby needs. If I could give you any advice on being parents it would be enjoy the little things and document everything because you will blink and they will be about to graduate and you cant never take enough pictures or videos because one day that’s all you will have left of your baby as a baby. Just enjoy every moment I know life gets busy and you get rapped up in everyday life and you don’t realize how time flies until you look back at pictures. You will realize that rather quietly after you come home from the hospital your baby will be days old then that turns to weeks then into years. I grew up in the 50’s and in our home and others I visited, the family table was in the kitchen. I guess that’s how an island evolved. Out table served as what is now an island, -The work space

My sister ordered a giant magnet decal sheet for the front of her dishwasher. It was reasonably priced, is a super cute design and covered a scratch that flawed an otherwise perfect machine.
Perfect timing.. in the planning stages of my kitchen reno.. very, very! Small kitchen area.. single wide mobile home, so things are very different. I can’t use a lot of standard items.. I have picked up large windows to replace the smaller ones that I have now. Right now, there is a new floor and walk in shower going in my bathroom.. what a mess !! But, almost there.
Small tip regarding the dishwasher 💧There are many DIYs for panelled/covered dishwashers. If it’s not possible with your particular one, I’d reconsider not purchasing a new, panelled, dishwasher from the start when you have the correct material for the panneling etc. You won’t regret it! ✨ i love this podcast and I’m so excited for your kitchen renovation! Oh Macenna with your baby arriving soon you were going to be thrilled that you made those choices for your kitchen. The last thing you wanna do is to be bouncing a fussy baby on your knee on a barstool no. You’re gonna love being able to sit comfortably with your feet on the ground and baby on your lap and a couple of toys on the table for the baby to play with While you drink your coffee, such a smart move and you might as well make it very different from Texas. The ceilings you were 133% right you need those high ceilings. That’s a crucial thing for me and how I feel in the home, your home is going to be used very differently now with a child in your future and you were making such fabulous choices for all the right reasons. Congratulations to you and Romeo, and the excited family in the grandparents the aunties, the uncles everyone who’s blessed by this child, thank you for making more content like this with the house. Love the podcast but absolutely hate the 2 cameras switching back & forth. Most of the time you're looking at the wrong camera and you switch over to often. It's distracting and not necessary to use w camera angles.

I just found this podcast and I am not sure how you can do all of this and your other endeavours ! You just want to rethink after the baby comes most of the women I know are taking at least 6 weeks off….are you planning to do that?
The second submission with the galley kitchen: Change the cabinet doors like MaCenna described or completely get new cabinet fronts and lose the gray. Get a lower trash bin pull-out drawer, then add a recycle bin in the pull-out drawer or a curtain, as MaCenna suggested. Those top cabinets to the left should be built up to the ceiling. The ceiling is not so high that the cabinets can't go all the way up. Replace those countertops; please do not add a backsplash to Formica countertops; I assure you it won't look much better. And sale your appliances and use the money to go toward new ones, like Cafe Appliances, those look really good. And please lose the signs around your home unless you're into kitschy spaces (i.e., the sign above your sink). I would get a built-in, paneled fridge and dishwasher. I agree with everything else she said. I agree you can love the kitchen layout the way it is, but you should go uber design-savvy.
people in this country have the "unsolited advice" cancer. Hispanic culture give advice not to be intrusive but to help...we help one another and that is part of the concept of community. Here is like a sin, i guess the culture is based that the people already was born with such an amazing IQ that no one need advice in any topic. I see the same issue with my kids...really? In the hispanic culture the advice of the parents, old folks is so much appreciated and treasure...they will give u a piece of their mind, and advice even when u do not ask for it...and for those with wisdom will treasure that. The bible give us many passages warning us to pay attention to wisdom...and wisdom come in the form of advice and it is up to us to pay attention and think and analize if the advice is sound, true and can serve us in any shape or form..if not then let it go and move on.
This is wild. I am so confused about what makes you think you are qualified to give interior design advice, let alone kitchen design. You have designed 1.5 kitchens, which does not make you an expert period. Why don't you try "giving advice" on topics like DIY or content creation, which are both areas that you have actual real world experience in? I understand that you appreciate and enjoy interior design but giving advice to thousands of people about a topic that you have no eduction or professional experience is just weird.
Since people follow her and appreciate her sense of style, the colour palletes and the options that her imagination creates, why isn't it totally cool to just listen to what potencial she sees in places that the viewers asked her opinion on? By giving the advice she is not making anyone do anything they do not want to do. She is also not claiming to be a professional in construction or architecture, simply just answering to a demand people have for her experienced design eye.

No one is keeping you here. People enjoy her content, she enjoys making it, so let it go.

I am an Interior Designer who specializes in kitchen remodels, so watching someone who has zero education or experience claim to know enough to give advice is seriously frustrating. Designing your own kitchen does not make you a kitchen designer. Just like changing a lightbulb doesn't make you an electrician. Maybe, instead of arguing with me you should spend that time figuring out why you are so willing to put this level of confidence into a complete stranger who is constantly lying, misrepresenting facts, contradicting herself and re-writing history. If Macenna doesn't want to receive these types of comments, she should think before she publishes a podcast where she is giving advice on a topic she knows nothing about. Doing something one time does not make you a professional or an expert, if people need help/advice they should not be consulting a DIY influencer. People are obviously free to do as they wish, but I think it is reckless for her to claim that she is qualified to answer these "design dilemmas" and I am free to comment on it.

I love that you made a conscious decision to not have an island. You could also use the table for extra counter space while cooking, if you really needed.

For Tiffany, I know she can't open up the wall because the stairs are there, but is the cavity under the stairs being used? I don't think so, because it looks like there's a hallway next to the fridge? If it were me and budget were no issue, I'd move the uppers on the left to where the open shelving at the back is to make it feel less closed in. Then open up the area under the stairs, tuck the lowers in that area under the stairs, and then the increased footprint might even allow you to put one lower facing out, roughly across from where the stove is to create an itty bitty mini peninsula. And maybe put the open shelving where the uppers were, if that doesn't feel too top-heavy.

Having a baby doesn't stop the world turning. I was up ladders hanging wallpaper and painting whilst 8 months pregnant. At 18/21 and 27. I've had no kitchen with new baby.. just need a sink and steriliser and fridge. We ate off paper plates when necessary. Being pregnant is the Best time to DIY. Baby is safe. Wait until trying to DIY when baby is here hahaha 😂

I’m a mom of 3 kids under 5. I can say you are very smart for starting the kitchen Reno before baby comes. I could not imagine the chaos of little kids and a kitchen renovation 😂

This was an excellent podcast. I needed to hear this. I'm in the middle of a huge home remodel kitchen, bathrooms, garage, room add-ons like mudroom, and a home office. This is a very eye opening experience. Flooring, lighting, and new windows are a huge price to pay..Labor costs are through the roof here in Florida.
MaCenna, I agree with you and have had this thought about a table in the center kitchen (think the Waltons). I have incorporated some freestanding pieces in my kitchen and prior to learning about older unfitted kitchens I would have never considered it. I have a solid oak armoire I converted into a pantry, mine is in the craftsman/farmhouse style I like. If I had the room I would add a Hoosier baking center (Hoosier Cabinet) I have a peninsula that I intended to use for baking but it is a clutter catcher the Hoosier has an enamel table top that slides in and out as needed and it is very smart design.
I could see some French Provincial pieces like a hutch/china cabinet in your kitchen, the older freestanding pieces really make it feel like it has always been there and it is not a fresh build.
P.S. adding bed risers can make the table a working height of the occasional time you have a project and need it to be working height. I do this on my dinning room table when I am working on sewing projects.

I live in a 1930s house and I have 100-year-old table in the kitchen.
My godson and I sit there and have snacks ,play games and do his homework. I chop food items for dinner.
You will find that people will go straight to your kitchen and just sit and talk have tea or coffee and it will be the hub of your home.. cozy, warm.. inviting! ❤
I love the concept of an eat-in-kitchen. There is something so beautiful of the idea of being able to gather around for family dinner in the kitchen where dinner was made :)
This was definitely my favorite podcast episode so far. I love the design submissions and ideas.
The first design help - I know no one asked me 😂 but I also think it would be pretty to use slate flooring in the kitchen and hallway. You could do lined up squares or diagonal/diamond placement would be awesome. We have slate where each 16x16 slate have a mixture of rust, dark & lighter gray, a tat of black, dark earthy green, and ours are not polished, no sheen, medium gray grout. If slate was picked to compliment the wood floors, it could be lovely.
Slate is great for hot summers (cool to feet) but a bit chilly in cold climates in winter, but rugs can help with that.
The Second design help - if homeowners are not going to change out appliances and I see they are black, painting the cabinets black with a creamy or white countertops could be pretty with a nice backsplash. Just my 2 cents worth.

You should get an dining table from Olive Ateliers so it will match the entry way table you have in the front room then get some antique black widsor back chairs or some french provincial chairs that have the linen fabric so it will look vintage/french provincial and that look is very timeless. That would be so beautiful and it screams MaCenna! I just love you and your style and you are so good at what you do so keep being you and I just love your personality you are always so positive and I love that about you. I look forward to your videos every week. I can’t wait for the baby to get here and see you and Romeo as parent y’all are gonna be great parents. I can’t wait to see the new chapter in y’all’s lives come to reality and don’t worry to much now about things because when he gets here it will all come natural to y’all and you will feel like you have been parent all along. Everyone struggles here and there and that is natural but the mommy instincts will kick in and you will know exactly what your baby needs. If I could give you any advice on being parents it would be enjoy the little things and document everything because you will blink and they will be about to graduate and you cant never take enough pictures or videos because one day that’s all you will have left of your baby as a baby. Just enjoy every moment I know life gets busy and you get rapped up in everyday life and you don’t realize how time flies until you look back at pictures. You will realize that rather quietly after you come home from the hospital your baby will be days old then that turns to weeks then into years. I grew up in the 50’s and in our home and others I visited, the family table was in the kitchen. I guess that’s how an island evolved. Out table served as what is now an island, -The work space

My sister ordered a giant magnet decal sheet for the front of her dishwasher. It was reasonably priced, is a super cute design and covered a scratch that flawed an otherwise perfect machine.

Perfect timing.. in the planning stages of my kitchen reno.. very, very! Small kitchen area.. single wide mobile home, so things are very different. I can’t use a lot of standard items.. I have picked up large windows to replace the smaller ones that I have now. Right now, there is a new floor and walk in shower going in my bathroom.. what a mess !! But, almost there.
Small tip regarding the dishwasher 💧There are many DIYs for panelled/covered dishwashers. If it’s not possible with your particular one, I’d reconsider not purchasing a new, panelled, dishwasher from the start when you have the correct material for the panneling etc. You won’t regret it! ✨ i love this podcast and I’m so excited for your kitchen renovation! Oh Macenna with your baby arriving soon you were going to be thrilled that you made those choices for your kitchen. The last thing you wanna do is to be bouncing a fussy baby on your knee on a barstool no. You’re gonna love being able to sit comfortably with your feet on the ground and baby on your lap and a couple of toys on the table for the baby to play with While you drink your coffee, such a smart move and you might as well make it very different from Texas. The ceilings you were 133% right you need those high ceilings. That’s a crucial thing for me and how I feel in the home, your home is going to be used very differently now with a child in your future and you were making such fabulous choices for all the right reasons. Congratulations to you and Romeo, and the excited family in the grandparents the aunties, the uncles everyone who’s blessed by this child, thank you for making more content like this with the house. Love the podcast but absolutely hate the 2 cameras switching back & forth.
Most of the time you're looking at the wrong camera and you switch over to often. It's distracting and not necessary to use w camera angles.

The second submission with the galley kitchen: Change the cabinet doors like MaCenna described or completely get new cabinet fronts and lose the gray. Get a lower trash bin pull-out drawer, then add a recycle bin in the pull-out drawer or a curtain, as MaCenna suggested. Those top cabinets to the left should be built up to the ceiling. The ceiling is not so high that the cabinets can't go all the way up. Replace those countertops; please do not add a backsplash to Formica countertops; I assure you it won't look much better. And sale your appliances and use the money to go toward new ones, like Cafe Appliances, those look really good. And please lose the signs around your home unless you're into kitschy spaces (i.e., the sign above your sink). I would get a built-in, paneled fridge and dishwasher. I agree with everything else she said. I agree you can love the kitchen layout the way it is, but you should go uber design-savvy.

people in this country have the "unsolited advice" cancer. Hispanic culture give advice not to be intrusive but to help...we help one another and that is part of the concept of community. Here is like a sin, i guess the culture is based that the people already was born with such an amazing IQ that no one need advice in any topic. I see the same issue with my kids...really? In the hispanic culture the advice of the parents, old folks is so much appreciated and treasure...they will give u a piece of their mind, and advice even when u do not ask for it...and for those with wisdom will treasure that. The bible give us many passages warning us to pay attention to wisdom...and wisdom come in the form of advice and it is up to us to pay attention and think and analize if the advice is sound, true and can serve us in any shape or form..if not then let it go and move on.

This is wild. I am so confused about what makes you think you are qualified to give interior design advice, let alone kitchen design. You have designed 1.5 kitchens, which does not make you an expert period. Why don't you try "giving advice" on topics like DIY or content creation, which are both areas that you have actual real world experience in? I understand that you appreciate and enjoy interior design but giving advice to thousands of people about a topic that you have no eduction or professional experience is just weird.
Since people follow her and appreciate her sense of style, the colour palletes and the options that her imagination creates, why isn't it totally cool to just listen to what potencial she sees in places that the viewers asked her opinion on? By giving the advice she is not making anyone do anything they do not want to do. She is also not claiming to be a professional in construction or architecture, simply just answering to a demand people have for her experienced design eye.

Giving advice on color palettes is one thing, but acting like she is an expert at designing kitchens is ridiculous. If people have questions about how to design a kitchen, they need to seek professional help from someone who knows what they are talking about, not an influencer who has "designed" one kitchen.

I don't claim to be always right, but still, it seems to me, that if you do not enjoy listening to ideas and advice being shared by a person who in fact designed and built for example her own kitchen (talking about the Texas home) - then just don't listen to her. No one is keeping you here. People enjoy her content, she enjoys making it, so let it go.

I used to really enjoy her content as well, which is why I click on her uploads every once in a while. I am allowed to watch and comment, regardless of if you agree with me or not. I think a lot of her viewers would struggle to support her if they were aware of the constant little lies that she tells and the inconstancies in her stories. I am an Interior Designer who specializes in kitchen remodels, so watching someone who has zero education or experience claim to know enough to give advice is seriously frustrating. Designing your own kitchen does not make you a kitchen designer. Just like changing a lightbulb doesn't make you an electrician. Maybe, instead of arguing with me you should spend that time figuring out why you are so willing to put this level of confidence into a complete stranger who is constantly lying, misrepresenting facts, contradicting herself and re-writing history. If Macenna doesn't want to receive these types of comments, she should think before she publishes a podcast where she is giving advice on a topic she knows nothing about. Doing something one time does not make you a professional or an expert, if people need help/advice they should not be consulting a DIY influencer. People are obviously free to do as they wish, but I think it is reckless for her to claim that she is qualified to answer these "design dilemmas" and I am free to comment on it.
