- today boys and girls, i go thru as best as i can on the steps to take off and replace your starter. i do this on my 1991 Mazda Miata 1.6L. i go into detail on exactly the tools i use and how i use them. tried my best to get your guy the best footage but i did have some technical difficulties while recording this one. i also do a bit of trouble shooting overview to help those who are still aren't sure if the starter is what they should be replacing. sorry for my month off guy. WE BACK BB.

but i'm not a mechanic.
This is a fantastic video and a great tutorial. Just got the car jacked up and your video was perfect for understanding how to get the top 2 bolts out with loads of extension bars! Thanks!
Wobble socket those are called....just getting ready to do that job, good look ahead. I'm pulling the engine, and stater removal is one of the hardest parts. Anytime I have a two person job, like on that bottom bolt with a nut on the other side, I use vice grips to hold it from turning. Other wrenches just fall off with movement. Vice grips will usually hang on to the bolt or nut.
damn you on a mission ! i respect that. yeah the starter is always a behind to get to keep bolt
Great video young buck. Clear and precise. Just about to change mine
That Chili’s story 😂😂😂 great vid bro!
😂😂
Man i started taking mine out, got 1 Bolt out after an hour and decided to hit an easy bolt like the one on the bracket... bruh it was already removed no wonder car didnt start. so i needa find it :c
Great vid. Old trick make sure you leave all the bolts a little loose until they are all threaded and in then tighten them . And wobble extensions are normally my go to. The swivels take some practice to use and they BITE !
I needed this a while back homie
Took me like 3 days to do mine maybe 4
sorry i let you down brotha 😂
@@JakeCande hey man my fault for finding you too late lol
I replaced my ignition switch, the battery (twice) and the starter with a rebuilt one from Advance Autos and my car still gives me hard time during start ups. Sometimes it will just clicks before the starter actually turn over. I might have to try 5 to 6 times.
bro i have this same issue except worse i have to click the key like 10-15 times its embarrassing, did you ever find out what it was
You can save some time by just cutting a hole in the passenger side floor
.I recall having to do that because there are three bolts. The two normal ones and the stupid third one you cant get to unless you cut hole in floor
Duuuudddeee I don't wanna dooo thissss
I can totally understand attempting to get it out and failing amd having to regroup and finish the video later. There have probably been some suicides related to miata starter removal and instalation. These cars really arent that easy to work on in the first place and then the starter goes out. Its ok its doable just dont think youre going to do it in the morning an hour before you have to go to work.
You did a great job on this video my Guy I got the same issue on my o4 for Miata oh I did all the same diagnostics before I even watch this video so I just bought the starter an hour ago and then I was like wanting to look up a video on how to change it. I just bought the car so I don’t really know anything about it.
3:35 I had to subscribe , i know that feeling brother 😆
on god brody 😂 shit’s i different kind of embarrassing
thanks - good work, good vid! im looking forward to getting this done...well, not REALLY looking forward to it, but....
GREAT video! About to do this on my NB.
thank you
Your funny you just earned your self a sub lol thx for the vid it’s helped a lot 😊😊
Great video Thnk you. Gonna try the tap thing so I can start my car 👌🏽
Well done
Thank you
What about the safety switch on the clutch pedal or the clutch relay?
the wasn’t the issue for me, but it doesn’t hurt to check !
Video starts at 4:00 😂
wobble socket extensions are fuckin amazing. I learned that the hard way too.
Good video but the swivel socket isn’t what stripped the bolt the 14mm 12 point is lmfao
true true
Fire vid
True G
thanks G ✊🏽
Wobble extension. I'm a mechanic I use em at work all day long.
wobble extensions are BEAST !!! swivel extension are GARBAGE!!!!
Mine has a terrible whining noise after putting an nb in, and it won't crank at all
Hi, I believe I have a similar issue 😄
I just replaced the starter with a brand new OEM Starter! When I attempt to start it, but that he'll bent sound occurs. What was your final resolution? 🤔 Thanks
i just bought a starter from o reilys like two weeks ago, it was turning on perfectly fine. then a week later, it wouldn’t turn on. but let’s say i wait for an hour it turns on. it’s so weird im just confused. do u think it’s the starter ?
i have a video of the sound if i can send it to u on insta
yeah bro send it over. sorry for the late response. did you get it figured out?
Bruh idk if you even gon see this this video a year old but I got the exact same problem I would turn the key and all I would hear is that humming sound like if it’s from the fuel pump or some but there’s no crank I have to keep trying and turning it sometimes I would get lucky and it would turn on quick or take long I got a new starter and ignition switch you think that would be happening if it’s the alternator
Wobble extension
Ywssss sirrrrrr
YESSSSIIRRRR
My car would refuse to start and EVEN JUST QUIT during a ride. Turned out to be a filthy gas filter !
damn bro. i really feel you. i had the same problem on my civic once, took me DAYS to figure out it was a clogged fuel filter. BOMB ASS FEELING when you finally figure out what’s wrong with your car and that first time you turn it on ✊🏽🔥
@@JakeCande I was ready to sell the car ( 22 years old) and an old smart guy told me to try it. Now the Miata is 25 years old and I just rebuilt the head. looks good. I am ready to do the fluid and restart the car. and a test on the starter failed.
I hit it with the breaker bar and then jiggled the ignition sending wire. Boom - turned over !! I needed to see a clear pic of what to chase.
Thank for your help.
I dont install the stupid 3rd bolt
3:55 cables
