That final scene in the plane when they realized they couldn't escape their fate was so heartbreaking. As soon as this movie ended, I had to start it from the beginning again to see how masterfully they hid the twist that this is a prequel. Managing to hide any technological indications of the time and dropping just enough hints that it all made sense at the end was SO well done. This truly was a redemption from FD4.
Yes, the actress in the gymnastics sequence -- Ellen Wroe -- was a level 9 gymnast in high school. We hired her just after she'd graduated from USC for mathematics. She then went through three months of training to get back into shape for the shoot. In fact, she did all the gymnastics work herself, save one balance beam maneuver.
Fun facts: •FD5 has the longest "opening disaster" in the film series. The bridge disaster lasts 4 minutes and 44 seconds. • The restaurant that Sam works in is called Le Cafe Miro 81. This cafe was seen at the end of Final Destination (2000) in Paris. • Isaac's cellphone is a Motorola StarTAC. These were high-end cellphones first available in 1996. This is a clue that this film is a prequel to Final Destination (2000) • The opening bridge collapse is inspired by the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that collapsed on November 7th, 1940, a mere 4 months after it was opened to the public. The only casualty of that incident was a driver's pet cocker spaniel. Additionally, someone has died from an acupuncture needle stabbing into their heart after falling off the table. • The Blu-ray release features two alternate death scenes. At the massage parlor, Isaac does not die because his head is smashed by the Buddha statue, but because he is standing in the puddle of liquid, and is engulfed in flames when it ignites. Instead of having just one eye burned, both of Olivia's eyes are burned during the laser eye surgery (although she still falls to her death). • At the end of this film, after Flight 180 explodes, its landing gear crashes into a bar, killing Nathan. According to a news report shown on a TV set that Alex Browning watches in the first Final Destination movie, the majority of the debris of Flight 180 fell into the Atlantic Ocean after it exploded shortly after takeoff from a New York-area airport. Thus, it would appear that the landing gear would be the only piece of debris that fell on land; the fact that it kills Nathan shows the craftiness of Death's designs.
@@Dystopia1111 i had no idea that happened. But i think they said it was more based on this bridge because it went down due to high winds which is why they incorporated that song Dust in the wind
My favorite plot twist in cinema history. "Life is a b*tch" is the point of all five movies. Those who are afraid of death will be closer to it, and those who live a full life and are not afraid of death will be much further from the final destination.
I always thought it was so funny when after the gymnasts death - like bones sticking out everywhere, neck and back obviously broke, very clearly did - you heard one of the other girls ask her "Candace, are you okay?"
35:15 see what happened here is, Superman lookalike thought the Coroner was telling them what to do to stay alive. However, all the Coroner was telling them was how they had already cheated death.
Final Destination 6 is coming out in 2025. I'm not sure how it connects to these 5, but it DOES take place in the same Universe, this time with a team of first responders (so cops, firefighters, paramedics). It will also go more in-depth with the Coroner character. Oh, he's played by Tony Todd, btw. He's been in MANY horror films, but is probably most famous for playing the candyman in the original Candyman trilogy.
The gymnastics kill is by far my favorite scene in the whole franchise, the way it builds up tension and misdirection and still catches you completely off guard.
My favorite thing about that scene is the girl's death is obviously CGI, but in the scene there's a security guard in the background who doesn't react at all to what's happening. lol
Girl the fact that Tim actually called it is insane The end of this movie is one of the biggest plot twists in horror movie history Both me and my dad were watching this when i was 16 (we both called it out the plot twist in sixth sense just seeing the guy's wife say "why did you leave me") and we were in SHOCK with this
I loved how the franchise ended by going right back to where it started, leaving elements that gave clues to the time in which the story took place. The building of tension kept my heart in my mouth the whole time and I enjoyed the undertones of comic relief. I haven't seen these movies in a long time, but I'm pretty sure the coroner is the Grim Reaper.
Just some assurance: Those needles are nowhere close to real acupuncture needles. They're usually very thin and barely puncture the skin. Not like here.
Immediately when he said he was taking the apprenticeship in Paris my brain put the pieces together that they (Molly & Sam) were gonna be apart of the passengers that didn’t survive flight 180
This was such a fun film series, and watching it with you two made it even better! Thank you! And Saw is a really great series. Even the bad movies are important (except maybe one but no spoilers).
Yeah, that scene with the gymnastics ring is just a huge tease. The guy who ends up trying to murder the rest at the end looks like Tom Cruise(and I think he played him in one of the "Scary Movies"or something. I do like the cop in this one, given he's so understanding and not blaming any of the characters for the accidents happening. This one was a thousand times better that "Final Destination 4", though I do think people are really made out of plasticine, given how easily they break(lol, the gymnastics death.) Been a treat watching you two react together!
I spoiled the surprise-prequel thing for myself. Because of the level of detail in this movies, I pay attention to EVERYTHING so I noticed that the gift certificate that guy steals to the massage places expired in 2001. And I just kinda put that together with them talking about flying to Paris at the beginning.
I admittedly WAS spoiled about the end reveal around before I saw it in theaters (Legit one of the best 3D movie theater experiences, next to Jackass 3D), but this one was SUCH a huge improvement over the last film. And it was nice to have Tony Todd back. Can't wait for the next one.
I feel like they could have survived by jumping over the side of the bridge and swimming at a 45 degree angle. Like AWAY from the bridge and TO the shore at the same time. At first it looked like too much of a fall to me (after a certain height, due to surface tension, water actually becomes harder to fall on than concrete) but Olivia fell in the water and was TOTALLY FINE (well, until the car landed on her lol).
The circle was closed if you jump from Final Destination 1 till to the last and from the last you jump to the first movie where the guy have the death vision from the plane who happend at the beginning on Final Destination 1 and at the end of Final Destination 5.
What I think would be a interesting change up, if they ever make a new Final Destination, is to not make the person who has the premonition be the main protagonist, but instead have the main protagonist be a random person that makes it out of the disaster, who’s death was not seen by the one who had the premonition. And then we don’t get to see the premonition of the disaster until a little bit later into the film, speaking with whom had said premonition
There has to be another FD movie. Bloodworth said he'd seen this stuff happen before, but since this is a prequel to FD1, so there must've been a FD incident before FD1.
They are making a new final destination 6 it’s called final destination bloodlines it’s set to release sometime in 2025 but with how good five was I don’t know if they can top it
the gymnastics death is so crazy insane with the nail teasing like every time her foot lands on the bar soooo close to the nail and then the chain reaction freaking flatout folds her body
Here s My Ranking For Each Final Destination Movie 5th Final Destination 4 Aka The Final Destination 4th Final Destination 3 3rd Final Destinatnion 1 2nd Final Destination 2 1st Final Destination 5
4 is called the final destination because the box office fell off with #3 so they were planning on ending it with 4 but then 4 made 150 million in profit so they made another one.
Alot of the things like the log trucks were hints to the audience that this takes place in the past. Though I kinda guessed it early on going by the era seemed off for the movie (like having older phones), like it was a prequel, turns out I was right. That and some other clues like the fact no one had heard of visions happening before to other people.

The twist that it's a prequel at the end is honestly one of the better twists I've seen.

Hey, it's Craig Perry (potentially)!
It's awesome that you engage with people engaging with your work.

The bridge collapse has a lot more similarities with the Sunshine Skyway collapse in 1980. The true story of that is absolute nightmare fuel.

No one escapes Candyman.
The thing to remember to understand the series is that the "rules" are always bullshit. That's why they're different in every film. You can't stop it.

The cast are in a music video together, parodying 'Saved By The Bell.'

I'll never get tired of seeing people's reactions to the end of this movie. It's so fun, every time.

To this day the diner scene is my favorite scene of the entire series. It's so well acted, the tone the suspense of the convo imo.
40:20 I would sue that eye doctor for criminal negligence and wrongful death.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 sue them
I mean her family should she can’t really cause she’s dead.😂
The guy playing the black detective is Courtney B. Vance, who played Jonesy, the Sonar guy, in The Hunt For Red October.
The 6th movie is now scheuled for sometimes in 2025. I'm guessing around Halloween.

love this one. definitely a great return to form for a dying franchise.
I remember thinking, Hah, flip phones. cheap production, then that twist happened. What a revelation.
I said it once and I’ll say it again, these kinds of movies like Final Destination make me never want to get out of bed much less my house😹
