Seattle transit agencies pledge more security after string of violent attacks

- Investigators are looking into another violent incident on Seattle-area transit after a man was fatally shot while on board a Metro bus Tuesday evening.
Both Sound Transit and King County Metro have indicated they are working to strengthen security, but new data from the transit police show there are far fewer officers than current budgets would allow.
According to the King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO), which operates transit police, Sound Transit Police are budgeted for 87.5 full-time employees but currently have 52. Metro Transit Police is allotted 79 full-time positions and currently has 18 vacancies.

People have short memories. Safety has been a problem on buses and transit hubs for decades. Adding security is like lipstick on a pig. What can security do? Call 911 so transit cops can show up later if at all?

@Bekah-lj7ez no, they get to choose to work, just like if they were out. But if they don't work, they don't eat, watch tv, socialize... I'm not talking about elaborate construction or grueling work, but community service work, litter control, storm recovery assistance, etc are beneficial to society and the inmates.
