San Francisco Giants - Bye Bye Baby

- This "fight song" was first used to open the radio broadcasts of Giants games on then flagship station KSFO in San Francisco. The saying is based on the home run call of Hall Of Fame broadcaster Russ Hodges. An instrumental version is currently used on television at the end of the inning whenever a Giant hits a home run.
The lyrics...
When the Giants come to town,
it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"
Every time the chips are down,
it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"
History's in the making
at Candlestick Park
Cheer for the batter
and light the spark!
If you're a fan of Giants baseball,
sing "Bye-Bye Baby!"
If you want to be in first place,
call "Bye-Bye Baby!"
Listen to the broadcast on KSFO
Turn up the volume and hear 'em go.
With the San Francisco Giants,
it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"
YEAH! My father WROTE and recorded this SF Giant's fight song for KSFO in the 1960's...He was a great man. May he RIP...ALLYN FERGUSON.
Really? How cool! Thank you to your dad! I’m in my late 60’s and have been a Giants fan since they moved to SF in1958. I remember listening to this song over and over again on a KSFO phonograph record that my dad had. Also they played it a lot on KSFO, which seemed to be on at our house all day (and all night) long. The good old days! You posted your comment 10 years ago, but here’s a late and big Thank You to your dad! And you.
Yeah thank you!!!
And I always thought it was written by Aaron Edwards, the newscaster.
@@Qrail Yes, many people thought that. I’m currently out of town, but when I get home, I will upload the lead sheet. I found it in all my father’s files from decades ago. It was submitted as a spec tune & therefore, dad & his partner were not paid for it, but we do own it. And, I still hear it sung at all the games!
@@jillianferguson4202 thanks for the reply, and the information.
Rest in peace Willie 🙏
Thank you Giants. win or lose I stay faithful. I want this song playing at my funeral.
we can arrange that, would you be interested in setting up a life insurance plan, that way your loved ones and relatives don’t have to worry about anything and we can just provide you with the greatest San Francisco Giants themed funeral and post funeral festivities.. it’s quite easy, with an initial payment of 1883 we can begin the process of enrollment and shit ⚾️
will you stay faithful after the crap that went down on March 18th 2024?
The public address at AT&T Park plays an instrumental version of this tune, at the end of an inning when a Giant hit a home run. The crowd claps in time, like a college fight song. Gotta love it.
And I sing along!
Never tire of hearing this great song. Brings back happier times in my childhood.
kurt666morris I went to AT&T Park and lost how many times I attended a # San Francisco Giants game
You should not have that number in your name.
heard this on all the Giants broadcasts on KSFO in the 60's...loved going to Candlestick with my dad for the games...great memories!
It would be so easy to update this! I'd love for them to rerecord the entire song in the same original style, but with the new lyrics:
When the Giants come town, it's bye-bye, baby
Every time the chips are down, it's bye-bye, baby.
History's in the making at Oracle Park [the new name fits perfectly!]
Cheer for the batter, and light the spark
If you're a fan of Giants' baseball, sing "bye-bye, baby"
If you want to be in first place, call "bye-bye, baby"
Listen to the broadcast on KNBR,
Turn up the volume - hear it fly far
With the San Francisco Giants, it's bye-bye, Baby!
😁
heck ya
Go Giants!!!!!! My grandfather, Aaron Edwards, a former KSFO newsman wrote part of this song, according to announcer Russ Hodges (who said "bye bye baby" whenever the Giants got a homerun):
Brings a huge smile and tears to the eyes...so cool!
Such an iconic song to this day
Warms my heart!

Been a Giants fan since 1977. This song's a classic-good to hear it again! (and some great old pix as well.)
This song, developed by KSFO radio, piloted around 1962. An instrumental version was the theme song for the Giants' radio broadcasts, and also what the organist played at Candlestick after a Giants home run.
Music from my childhood in San Francisco. My Dad always had the game on and on a couple of different radios in the house.
@brabon1 Hi. I appreciate your response. I know Johnny Mandel, as well. My father didn't even get paid to write the jingle, however. He submitted it because he loved to write music and it turned into the giant fight song that it is! At this point, it doesn't really matter, as you say. It is a wonderful fight song, and I'm proud of my father's work. At that point in his life, or ever really, the writing of music was what mattered...not the money.
@theedlos Thank you so much. I appreciate your words, and I love that the song has really become an iconic fight song, known & sung by so many for generations!
The sound of summer in THE CITY! KSFO and Giants baseball! Can't sing but make my southern husband (a true gentleman) listen to me sing this every time we talk about the GIANTS!
This is the greatest song in the history of music.
This brings back so many memories; I was one of the lucky 61,389 patrons to attend the last Giants game at The 'Stick, & one of my most lasting memories is the final group singing of BBB after Mays threw the Ceremonial Last Pitch with Barry behind the plate. I also recall a game in '99 (I think it may have been in August or September) honoring Willie McCovey. He tossed baseballs to the fans from a chauffeured convertible while a continuous loop of BBB played for about 5 minutes.
I’m not a San Francisco Giants fan I’m a New York Yankees fan. But I just love this fight song and I love Giants stadium from the the giant glove and coca-cola bottle to McCovey cove to the home run sound. One of my favorite stadiums
Awesome
Thanks for posting
#1 San Francisco Bad Asses . I smell another World Series Championship in San Francisco , California . #Together we're Giant
@cetteferge Are you serious? This is the classics of classics. My kids queue it up on the computer and play it when the Giants hit a home run when we're watching on TV. Amazing.
Bumping this til Friday baby
this one is for the late Giants reporter Ken Gimblin who covered Giants baseball since 1962 and was a fixture out at Candlestick Park. He covered the team until he passed in April 2014. RIP Kenny G
"NEXT YEAR" IS HERE!!! Go Giants!
I got this booked marked and ready to go when watching the Giants! GO GIANTS!
Thank you so much for this. It was just like yesterday when I was a kid, Willie and Willie and Russ and Lon. OMG! I turned 70 yesterday and this song just came to mind. Thank you again for keeping history around.
Every time I go to a giants game I hear this!
Best baseball song! Too bad we can't "listen to the broadcasts on KSFO" anymore but KNBR is great!
@Keeper1st You're right! My father wrote that tune for a KSFO promo spot. GET THIS! The Giant's "people" have NEVER paid a cent to my father (deceased this year). He was a wonderful man, and I cannot believe they have not compensated him in SOME way when it has become an ICON! My father, born in San Jose, loved the Giants. I am very proud that his music is associated with the team. Too bad, the "ones in charge" don't feel he was worth being paid for it! We have the original sheet music & 45rpm!
Artists and musicians have a hard time getting paid for the tremendous gifts they give us.
I think it’s a disgrace that your dad didn’t get paid royslties every time they used it.
That’s why copyright laws were needed long ago.
Still and all, his memory lives on and on due to his wonderful song!
@@SongOfEire I think we may even have a copyright. But, because it was written on ‘spec,’ they didn’t feel they should have to ‘pay.’ We’ve gone round & round about this, but it requires big league attys to fight these thugs! Yes, Thx!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe x MLB San Francisco Giants Catcher #28 Buster Posey winning 48 races on Toad Harbor Downtown SF,CA
@cetteferge Instant classic. I appreciate the legacy he left behind with this song. I wish they played this before every game.
I have huge respect for the Giants. Backs to their walls, they are 10-0 in elimination games since 2010 after winning against CHI last night. My main team's the Jays, but I have huge respect for them after beating CHC in Game 3. Here's to hoping they do it again tonight!
i so remember these times as a kid listening to the Giants games on ksfo in san francisco.
Giants Fans when the Dodgers meet us at home in Oracle Park it's War
Defend the Phone Booth! GO GIANTS!
RIP Lon Simmons.
Douglas Berry # Well missed
I love this song!!! I always get it stuck in my head
The Giants won the pennant! We are going to the world series baby!!!!
Go Giants! COVID-19 be damned!
Yes sir!
I love it. That's my team!
When I was 6 years old back in the 60's, dad would have his cheapo AM radio listening to Russ Hodges, while working in the back yard. He would occassionally whoop a holler when some guy named Mays or McCovey went yard.
I don't live in San Jose anymore, but the theme song here hit a chord.
Good Luck
btw, I have that album at the 34 second mark.
Thanks for this! It brings back great memories. One picky note: The term is "based on" and not "based off." We need our bases correct in a baseball post....
Finally noticed this post and corrected the syntax. Thanks for pointing that out!
I was there for the one in this song and I just saw this latest one!

You know whenever the Giants hit home-runs, the television broadcast plays this great tune.
Just the start of the instrumental version.. I always wait for it.. great memories. thx
Go Giants Rip Willie Mays
Am told the telecasts play an instrumental version of this tune during a home run. Would like to hear that :(
@redcleric Thanks so much!
@ap11girl You can download it from the Bay Area Radio Museum's web site. bayarearadio (dot) org in the "KSFO, Sound of the City" section.
@twoweektrial Yeah, me too since my father wrote this tune in the 60's! We have the original sheet music and 45 rpm of this tune! Too bad he was never paid by them!
And what the heck Candlestick park ain't the stadium either but what the heck, pacbell/sbc is nice place to watch 'em.
'Cutch' with a walk off!
# Never Quit on your favorite Baseball Team
best fight song ever. LA has something else to be jealous of. =)
I love hearing this prior to the commercials on CSN following bye-bye baby (or adios pelota if a Hispanic player hit the home run.)
@Keeper1st (You can't strictly "download" it, but rather you can make your computer record itself while playing it, which is easy enough to do -- Volume Control, Properties, Recording, select your Wave Out. It's a better-quality recording than the ones you'll find on RUclips.)
Makes me proud to be a Giants fan :') . Torture never felt so good.
As good as it gets...!
Love that Fencebusters Card!! THUMBS WAY UP!

Allyn Ferguson
Another division title is just three out away!
Go Giants!
Giants Win it all!
@cetteferge - all honor to your Dad, this fight song is the best, and always has been- they should use it today, revamp the words, and pay your father's estate as he deserved in the first place... it would be only right...
AT&T, too.
Someone needs to re-record this with AT&T Park and KNBR instead of Candlestick and KSFO.
KSFO probably owns the tune.
+caliscribe The song is fine the way it is, there is no need to tamper with it.
Absolutely NOT!!
caliscribe now oracle
@@robinenos607Nope, they don’t. We do.
