Fantastic room!!!! There was so many things I liked about it, but my favorite thing (besides that beautiful receiver) was your dad’s console furniture. So great to have something personal like that and to be able to use it perfectly! Dug that wall treatment behind, we were looking into using those type of panels for a home project. I agree 100% on not liking the tightly spined records. So hard to deal with and you get lazy so records get lost and forgotten in the shelves. Such a nice room!!! Cheers, Jon

Search for 3D wall panels (basket weave). They have a wide variety. The panels look great and it really did help reduce the harshness of high frequencies. Fantastically presented Corey. I really appreciated how detailed the equipment info. I remembered the Pioneer reel. As soon as you mentioned your uncle I remembered the Tandberg. I think the Reel To Reel' players are the coolest looking equipment to display. Beautiful Jeremy Thom blueprint. Now I saw Ozzy with Randy but I do not remember that stage setup. I saw them in May of 1981 if I remember right. Those crates came out really nice. I am a proud owner of the Record Stores Across America book. I was honored to receive one. You were the first one to do a series like that. May I add that the house looks amazing. So neat, clean and comfortable. My kind of place. This was one of the best music room tours that I ever saw. Very nice space Corey! I really love the crates that you added the legs to. I have about 5 of those and I might have to borrow that...LOL. I took down about 10 ash trees that last few years, they were a lot smaller than your tree but that is a super cool coffee table. Also what you you did with those crates is outstanding. I think ash wood smells really good burning in the firepit. I used the website "mixbook" to create the album. Hey Corey, ...what a wonderful room ! Everything so simplified, clean lines and well thought out with no wasted space. The equipment is definitely the focal point in the room and I really like the idea of the sound absorbing feature on the wall behind the stereo along with the tree cookie from the old house as well. Hey Tom! Thanks man, you've seen a few variations of my music room too. This version I find myself enjoying listening to music much more and wondering how to make improvements much less. I can't recommend the DW's enough in the price range. It was either those or pioneer elac on stands. I really like the benefits of floor standing speakers and the Omens blew me away...and still do. Great bass response, voice, seperation, soundstage, heck you've probably read up on all that and have heard them too but I do recommend the clairity caps and rubber footers if they are going on wood floors. Really nice job Corey , I have a lot of similarities with my room it’s just not really complete yet . Hoped to have it kinda set up for Christmas but it just won’t happen. I put together a quick system just so I can rock out while I’m buttoning things up . I’m using wood from my yard as well for sound delusion and I have old soda crates to the left of me while listening. Congrats and enjoy.
Thank you Bill, this room went together pretty quick because most of it was from the old house. It was easy to leave gobs of books and records boxed up for a more "clean" look. There is one special addition I'm waiting to be repaired and the room will be complete (insert evil overlord rubbing hands together). I love the old soda crates. I have a Vernons one in storage. Send some pictures when your room is complete!
Okay, I'm stunned. You're the only one that knows what that (SEL 200) is LOL. I just love that receiver and I have the original spec sheet framed for that as well. It was just too small for this room so it will go in the office. I'm not familiar with your channel so I'll head over and check it out soon.
VERY different LOL! Your room is stuffed with collectables and media from top to bottom. Typical of someone in the business and a lifetime passion for collecting. I'd love to get out there one day to visit, listen, and team up for a VC video.

It sounds like they've gotten plenty of use over the years and they look practically brand new. How heavy is your coffee table from the tree cookie? It looks awesome. That book you put together is another wonderful touch. Same with those decorative wall panels. Vintage and modern, clean and bright! Heck of a room!
Thank you so much!! I'm proud of the room but very appreciative to have such a cool space to enjoy music. Man that thing was well over 200lbs when it was first cut. My wife and I had to roll it into the garage. I let it dry out for 1 year and it was a little lighter. I was able to flip it on my own when sanding and staining it. Once the legs were on it just took 2 people to move it. A few opinions on the table is that it's about 180-200lbs.

Awesome, awesome space. Love the vinyl shelves, interesting reasoning about keeping the records spaced out. Does look more accessible and appealing for display that way, I've done something similar with some of my shelves (not all, because, too many records lol), the only thing I'm a little concerned about was possibility of some warping from the LP's leaning a little because they are not packed in enough to stand up straight very well. Keeping them as straight as possible and probably worrying too much. The Downbeat mags are a cool touch, you know I walked into one of my local shops the other day and they had a box of old issues just like that on the counter that they were blowing out for a quarter or a dollar each or something. Should have grabbed some I guess. Very chill space to relax and enjoy your music!
-Woah, I'd have bought the whole box (downbeat)! I guess they "go for" $6-$9 that's what I paid. -Good call with the angle of the records in the bins. I try to keep them leaning as little as possible. I appreciate you letting me share the listening room with you. Nice room! Very nice P-51. Super clean build. My Dad was a P-38 mechanic in WW-2 so tend to favor the twin boom but the Mustang was (and is) a beautiful and deadly design.
The new listening room looks awesome Corey! I didn't realize you moved - did you stay in town or move outta state? Loved all the attention to detail with lighting your equipment (and color matching it), leaving room to flip through the shelves (that's my problem too - I never want to wrestle the album in or out), and the coffee table - a signature to your old place and the memories there. Really cool. Great 707 and yeah, pioneer made some great equipment in the '70s. I love my 909! Really awesome to see it all!
Thank you Brad, after much discussion and searching the city and surrounding areas...we moved about 2 miles away! Quieter neighborhood, private backyard, better fit for us over all. That is a Clear Audio table made for Marantz. The cartridge it came with is delicate. Mine got damage from leaving it on the record at the end too long. I fell asleep for two hours while it spun on the inner groove, now it looks like it is coming out of the shell toward the inside, instead of straight. I don't have channel separation issues or inner groove distortion yet but I think I should maybe buy a blue cartridge and send this $850 cart in for repair. I have a Pioneer SX 980 that I want to go through. I have not had time to watch the vids and order the parts. Currently I use a pair of Emotiva mono blocks as power. I tried their pre amp but thought the sound was great for current day music but way too bright for records from the 60s=90s. I got a very large Kenwood KR8010 receiver to use as a pre amp and now love the sound from both digital and analog. Thanks for sharing your video!!!!!

One does not simply create a room like this. Nothing's accidental. Everything has sentimental value and a story to tell. Everything just fits together. It almost feels like it's a nice bonus if it also sounds good :) Well done! By the way, how do you preserve the "cookie" with the bark intact? Doesn't it want to come off after a while? I am no woodworker, but if I'll ever dabble in that, it would be for a project like this.
Very intuitive comment. Well said. I'm not a woodworker either but this project involved a rough piece and no angle fitting so that helped! I knew going in that the bark will eventually fall off but I wanted to keep it on as long as possible because I liked the way it looks. Once the cookie was ready for staining, I used Arm-R-Seal on the top as well as lathered it all over the bark. I just drenched it with a brush. It's 2 years old now and spent 1 year outside (all seasons). The bark has held up amazingly and only a few little pieces off the edge have fallen off. At some point when the bark comes off in chunks I'll just remove it, sand and stain it again. Not a big deal and it looks like it may last a few more years. Go for it!

Another tape head! Thank you. Having space in each cube has allowed me to shuffle, slide and flip though much easier. I just had to add more shelving and box up some common 70s records I don't play often anyway. Good luck!

I used to own a Dual CS-5000 table. The thing I liked about it was the headshell had a dial for adjusting the cartridge over hang. Normally over hang is adjusted by the tone arm height which is a very difficult thing to perfect. I would strongly advise anyone that has a sensitive ear to utilize a headshell with over hang adjustment. Over hang is what affects the EQ based on stylus angle. The slightest adjustment when playing a 180 G album really adds enhanced fidelity on the entire spectrum.
Probably the table I would buy if I was in the $1.5k range - lovely. I think your amp choice is solid as well - they are undervalued compared to the vintage Sansui or Marantz. The book is a nice touch!
That is one great music room, congratulations. About the tree "cookie" table-- what treatment did you use on the side/bark part of the table to preserve the bark and keep it from drying up and falling off?

You did a fantastic job on this room! You really did! I am now a subscriber, bec I love the sound equipment I grew up with. I'd wished I would have kept my Lafayette LR 9090 after discovering it was actually a Setton receiver, alas my Dokorder 7700 open reel is gone. Too often in the old times (1970s) the tit for tat jealousy between name brands was horrible. I shall not enter that realm. I love your set up. The Pioneer receiver, excellent, and Marantz, who did not make their own turntables, some were excellent, some were not bad. For example as I see the Marantz 6100 turntables being bid up to 300 to 400 dollars, this was the same exact turntable as the T-2000 which you can buy for under 100 bucks still. Moi, for turntables, I love the Duals from the 80, yes the ugly ones. The CS 608 and 708qs with the ULM tonearm were well done, and the carts were excellent. Dual turntables are still going at a discount. I, too, will be replacing my open reels, with a Pioneer deck, one day. The 707, or the 909, are excellent. As to a cassette, my preference was always the CT-F1250 by Pioneer. As to receivers, I am restoring a Marantz 2270 from the mid 70s. Ahhh the Marantz Blue. (I even have that funky pink Superscope 8 track player - no kidding - bec it's pretty to look at and I still have some old noisy 8-track tapes :-) ) Now to speakers. ESS Heil air motions, were excellent. The heil air motion transformer was a perfect mid and tweet. The cross over was generally between 1500 and 2400 HZ depending on woofer size. The transformer reproduced perfectly from lower mids all the way up to 23K Hz. Now sometimes with the ESS speakers, the woofer may need replacing, and improving. My pref is Pyle as a woofer. Other great speakers, no longer overlooked, are the old RSL 3600 which beat the JBLs at the time. Roger Sound Labs, then in Burbank, CA, sold more 3600s than JBLs at his store front. He made and designed his own speakers. After the head of Warner visited Roger's Burbank store to buy JBL speakers, and listened to the 3600s, guess what he bought, instead. Within a year, there was not a recording studio in L.A. that did not have a 3600 series as mixing speakers; yes they were that good. Gosh I could talk about this all day and night. But, man, I love the LEDs you put in, very classy, and the record storage, like wow.
Oh I was going to talk about cartridges. I still have mounter to head shell for an s-tonearm is an Audio Technica quad cart, old shure carts, and even a pickering. So I bought a cheap T-4000 turntable, under 100 bucks, turntable and am playing around with old quadraphonic records I still have. Yes from the 70s. As to Lafayette, which I have mentioned more than once. They were a competitor to Radio Shack However, most Lafayette's electronics were average, occasionally, those who manufactured for them, made excellent electronics, Setton being one of them. Their higher level turntables were alright, aka the T2000 and T4000s. When you do your research, you can pick up excellent state of the art equipment for a very low cost, as people do not know about these classics. I was not a fan of the S-tonearm as they needed a counter weight to compensate for the shape, but having owned one and still having the headshells, I do have one S-shaped tonearm turntable, the T-4000 mentioned above. Gosh, I am stoked about this stuff.
I love your enthusiasm for vintage! Thank you for the compliments, we work hard on our music rooms and it takes years for it to come together so I know you can appreciate it. So far I've listened to Sherwood, Marantz, and Sansui, but the Pioneer has the sound I prefer. You are correct, Marantz does not make their own turntables. This one is made by Clearaudio. I've owned a Dual but didn't care for it but I know many prefer them. I hope to land a Pioneer 909 one day but for now the 707 is just right. I am not as experienced with speakers. I've had a pair of vintage Klipsch Heresy I's and although they brought great emotion to the music they sounded mid-rangy and the bass just didn't satisfy my ears. I owned a pair of 90s Cerwin Vegas AT12s that performed really well but these Zu Audio Omen DW's are my first step towards high efficiency and hi-fi. They sound amazing. I'll have to do some homework on the ESS Heil. I have experience with Shure IV, Pickering, AT, Ortofon, and Virtuoso. I don't have the equipment to play quads but that certainly sounds cool! What's up Billy! I ordered the all the pin legs on Amazon. I bought them over the course of a few weeks so I wouldn't get hit at once. The table has the shorter ones to hold more weight and won't tip over. We have an Ikea less than an hour away. I was trying to figure out how to put the two shelves together and then it hit me to put the 1x4 in the corner. It came out really nice.

Wow...don't know what your day gig is,but if it's not in interior design you're just throwing money away! Everything-from the lighting to the coffee table and your one of a kind photo book-speaks of a personal approach to music listening that is joyously all your own. A beautiful job. I will,however,have to "steal" the "elevated-box-on-pIns" idea. I will soon be able to flip thru some lps without crawling on the floor like I'm digging in the crates at some flea market(not there's anything wrong with that)! BTW,for some early Freddie Hubbard,check out his "Hubtones",if you haven't already. His "You're My Everything" could well serve as a theme song for this room. Thanks for sharing...and keep swingin'!
Thank you! I'd love to see the crates on pins idea take off. Be careful if you have the peaches crates, they are just a little too short (on the ends) and the LPs can get a crease on the cover if you don't add a cardboard stiffener. Those Zu Audios are a massively fantastic sound for the money (their tweaked version of the Denon DL 103 is a very good cartridge for that particular price point, too). Very excited for you bro. Fantastically presented Corey. I really appreciated how detailed the equipment info. I remembered the Pioneer reel. As soon as you mentioned your uncle I remembered the Tandberg. I think the Reel To Reel' players are the coolest looking equipment to display. Beautiful Jeremy Thom blueprint. Now I saw Ozzy with Randy but I do not remember that stage setup. I saw them in May of 1981 if I remember right. Those crates came out really nice. I am a proud owner of the Record Stores Across America book. I was honored to receive one.
You were the first one to do a series like that. May I add that the house looks amazing. So neat, clean and comfortable. My kind of place. This was one of the best music room tours that I ever saw. You really did a first class job with it. Way to go Corey~

I took down about 10 ash trees that last few years, they were a lot smaller than your tree but that is a super cool coffee table. Also what you you did with those crates is outstanding. Hey Corey, ...what a wonderful room ! Everything so simplified, clean lines and well thought out with no wasted space. The equipment is definitely the focal point in the room and I really like the idea of the sound absorbing feature on the wall behind the stereo along with the tree cookie from the old house as well. Hey Tom! Thanks man, you've seen a few variations of my music room too. This version I find myself enjoying listening to music much more and wondering how to make improvements much less.
I can't recommend the DW's enough in the price range. It was either those or pioneer elac on stands. I really like the benefits of floor standing speakers and the Omens blew me away...and still do. Great bass response, voice, seperation, soundstage, heck you've probably read up on all that and have heard them too but I do recommend the clairity caps and rubber footers if they are going on wood floors.

Really nice job Corey , I have a lot of similarities with my room it’s just not really complete yet . Hoped to have it kinda set up for Christmas but it just won’t happen.
I put together a quick system just so I can rock out while I’m buttoning things up .
I’m using wood from my yard as well for sound delusion and I have old soda crates to the left of me while listening.

Thank you Bill, this room went together pretty quick because most of it was from the old house. It was easy to leave gobs of books and records boxed up for a more "clean" look. There is one special addition I'm waiting to be repaired and the room will be complete (insert evil overlord rubbing hands together). I love the old soda crates. I have a Vernons one in storage. Send some pictures when your room is complete!

Okay, I'm stunned. You're the only one that knows what that (SEL 200) is LOL. I just love that receiver and I have the original spec sheet framed for that as well. It was just too small for this room so it will go in the office. I'm not familiar with your channel so I'll head over and check it out soon.

Thank you so much!! I'm proud of the room but very appreciative to have such a cool space to enjoy music. Man that thing was well over 200lbs when it was first cut. My wife and I had to roll it into the garage. I let it dry out for 1 year and it was a little lighter. I was able to flip it on my own when sanding and staining it. Once the legs were on it just took 2 people to move it. A few opinions on the table is that it's about 180-200lbs.

Awesome, awesome space. Love the vinyl shelves, interesting reasoning about keeping the records spaced out. Does look more accessible and appealing for display that way, I've done something similar with some of my shelves (not all, because, too many records lol), the only thing I'm a little concerned about was possibility of some warping from the LP's leaning a little because they are not packed in enough to stand up straight very well. Keeping them as straight as possible and probably worrying too much. The Downbeat mags are a cool touch, you know I walked into one of my local shops the other day and they had a box of old issues just like that on the counter that they were blowing out for a quarter or a dollar each or something. Should have grabbed some I guess. Very chill space to relax and enjoy your music!
-Woah, I'd have bought the whole box (downbeat)! I guess they "go for" $6-$9 that's what I paid.
-Good call with the angle of the records in the bins. I try to keep them leaning as little as possible.

Nice room! Very nice P-51. Super clean build. My Dad was a P-38 mechanic in WW-2 so tend to favor the twin boom but the Mustang was (and is) a beautiful and deadly design.

The new listening room looks awesome Corey! I didn't realize you moved - did you stay in town or move outta state? Loved all the attention to detail with lighting your equipment (and color matching it), leaving room to flip through the shelves (that's my problem too - I never want to wrestle the album in or out), and the coffee table - a signature to your old place and the memories there. Really cool. Great 707 and yeah, pioneer made some great equipment in the '70s. I love my 909! Really awesome to see it all!

That is a Clear Audio table made for Marantz. The cartridge it came with is delicate. Mine got damage from leaving it on the record at the end too long. I fell asleep for two hours while it spun on the inner groove, now it looks like it is coming out of the shell toward the inside, instead of straight. I don't have channel separation issues or inner groove distortion yet but I think I should maybe buy a blue cartridge and send this $850 cart in for repair. I have a Pioneer SX 980 that I want to go through. I have not had time to watch the vids and order the parts. Currently I use a pair of Emotiva mono blocks as power. I tried their pre amp but thought the sound was great for current day music but way too bright for records from the 60s=90s. I got a very large Kenwood KR8010 receiver to use as a pre amp and now love the sound from both digital and analog. Thanks for sharing your video!!!!!

I came so close to getting that Marantz TT but got the VIP Scoutmaster instead - probably would have been happy either way.
One does not simply create a room like this. Nothing's accidental. Everything has sentimental value and a story to tell. Everything just fits together. It almost feels like it's a nice bonus if it also sounds good :) Well done!
By the way, how do you preserve the "cookie" with the bark intact? Doesn't it want to come off after a while? I am no woodworker, but if I'll ever dabble in that, it would be for a project like this.

I'm not a woodworker either but this project involved a rough piece and no angle fitting so that helped! I knew going in that the bark will eventually fall off but I wanted to keep it on as long as possible because I liked the way it looks. Once the cookie was ready for staining, I used Arm-R-Seal on the top as well as lathered it all over the bark. I just drenched it with a brush. It's 2 years old now and spent 1 year outside (all seasons). The bark has held up amazingly and only a few little pieces off the edge have fallen off. At some point when the bark comes off in chunks I'll just remove it, sand and stain it again. Not a big deal and it looks like it may last a few more years. Go for it!

Another tape head! Thank you. Having space in each cube has allowed me to shuffle, slide and flip though much easier. I just had to add more shelving and box up some common 70s records I don't play often anyway. Good luck!

I used to own a Dual CS-5000 table. The thing I liked about it was the headshell had a dial for adjusting the cartridge over hang. Normally over hang is adjusted by the tone arm height which is a very difficult thing to perfect. I would strongly advise anyone that has a sensitive ear to utilize a headshell with over hang adjustment. Over hang is what affects the EQ based on stylus angle. The slightest adjustment when playing a 180 G album really adds enhanced fidelity on the entire spectrum.

You did a fantastic job on this room! You really did! I am now a subscriber, bec I love the sound equipment I grew up with. I'd wished I would have kept my Lafayette LR 9090 after discovering it was actually a Setton receiver, alas my Dokorder 7700 open reel is gone. Too often in the old times (1970s) the tit for tat jealousy between name brands was horrible. I shall not enter that realm.
I love your set up. The Pioneer receiver, excellent, and Marantz, who did not make their own turntables, some were excellent, some were not bad. For example as I see the Marantz 6100 turntables being bid up to 300 to 400 dollars, this was the same exact turntable as the T-2000 which you can buy for under 100 bucks still.
Moi, for turntables, I love the Duals from the 80, yes the ugly ones. The CS 608 and 708qs with the ULM tonearm were well done, and the carts were excellent. Dual turntables are still going at a discount. I, too, will be replacing my open reels, with a Pioneer deck, one day. The 707, or the 909, are excellent. As to a cassette, my preference was always the CT-F1250 by Pioneer. As to receivers, I am restoring a Marantz 2270 from the mid 70s. Ahhh the Marantz Blue. (I even have that funky pink Superscope 8 track player - no kidding - bec it's pretty to look at and I still have some old noisy 8-track tapes :-) )
Now to speakers. ESS Heil air motions, were excellent. The heil air motion transformer was a perfect mid and tweet. The cross over was generally between 1500 and 2400 HZ depending on woofer size. The transformer reproduced perfectly from lower mids all the way up to 23K Hz. Now sometimes with the ESS speakers, the woofer may need replacing, and improving. My pref is Pyle as a woofer. Other great speakers, no longer overlooked, are the old RSL 3600 which beat the JBLs at the time. Roger Sound Labs, then in Burbank, CA, sold more 3600s than JBLs at his store front. He made and designed his own speakers. After the head of Warner visited Roger's Burbank store to buy JBL speakers, and listened to the 3600s, guess what he bought, instead. Within a year, there was not a recording studio in L.A. that did not have a 3600 series as mixing speakers; yes they were that good.
Gosh I could talk about this all day and night. But, man, I love the LEDs you put in, very classy, and the record storage, like wow.
Oh I was going to talk about cartridges. I still have mounter to head shell for an s-tonearm is an Audio Technica quad cart, old shure carts, and even a pickering. So I bought a cheap T-4000 turntable, under 100 bucks, turntable and am playing around with old quadraphonic records I still have. Yes from the 70s.
As to Lafayette, which I have mentioned more than once. They were a competitor to Radio Shack However, most Lafayette's electronics were average, occasionally, those who manufactured for them, made excellent electronics, Setton being one of them. Their higher level turntables were alright, aka the T2000 and T4000s. When you do your research, you can pick up excellent state of the art equipment for a very low cost, as people do not know about these classics.
I was not a fan of the S-tonearm as they needed a counter weight to compensate for the shape, but having owned one and still having the headshells, I do have one S-shaped tonearm turntable, the T-4000 mentioned above.
Gosh, I am stoked about this stuff.

So far I've listened to Sherwood, Marantz, and Sansui, but the Pioneer has the sound I prefer. You are correct, Marantz does not make their own turntables. This one is made by Clearaudio.
I've owned a Dual but didn't care for it but I know many prefer them.
I hope to land a Pioneer 909 one day but for now the 707 is just right.
I am not as experienced with speakers. I've had a pair of vintage Klipsch Heresy I's and although they brought great emotion to the music they sounded mid-rangy and the bass just didn't satisfy my ears. I owned a pair of 90s Cerwin Vegas AT12s that performed really well but these Zu Audio Omen DW's are my first step towards high efficiency and hi-fi. They sound amazing. I'll have to do some homework on the ESS Heil.
I have experience with Shure IV, Pickering, AT, Ortofon, and Virtuoso. I don't have the equipment to play quads but that certainly sounds cool!

What's up Billy! I ordered the all the pin legs on Amazon. I bought them over the course of a few weeks so I wouldn't get hit at once. The table has the shorter ones to hold more weight and won't tip over.
We have an Ikea less than an hour away. I was trying to figure out how to put the two shelves together and then it hit me to put the 1x4 in the corner. It came out really nice.

Be careful if you have the peaches crates, they are just a little too short (on the ends) and the LPs can get a crease on the cover if you don't add a cardboard stiffener.
