I have a very similar fibre optic tree. I replaced the original halogen bulb with a 12V LED and left everything else as is. I havent done anything extra (changing motor or LED) as its not worth the effort since the tree is only out for a few weeks in december. The only part in yours that is really damaged is the colour/pattern disc. Dont throw it away, you can repair it by gently heating with a hair dryer or hot air rework station on lowest setting so it can be flattened out again.
I have almost the same thing , it originaly had a GU10 halogen , i just put a LED GU10 in it and put a resistor in seeries with the cooling fan to make it quiet
I'd say that there is probably lots of people with the exact same tree stuck in their loft......me included. Be nice to get mine working again but god only knows where the psu is! A small project to do and 11 months to do it in :)
Is the fan replaceable/fixable when it stops working? My tree is shutting off or tripping out after an hour or so. Would a small fan blowing into the unit work?
@@frenchtons9380 the fan in my tree is easy to replace because it uses a standard 12v dc fan that is attached using screws. I also swapped the halogen lamp with an LED version, and that worked fine too. Things might be a bit different on your tree, so you will have to open it up and have a look.
LOL...Yes, but...like with so many things that land on a repair table, you don’t always know what you’re up against until you get into it. Mine started with the base falling off and one “leg” breaking in the fall...no big deal; glue fixed it. THEN, I plugged it in and realized the lightbulb filament ALSO didn’t survive the fall. Okay, so a pack of those from Amazon at $6:00 and Voila...we have light once more! And now...we find the little motor that turns the light wheel is shot! LOL
I have one with plastic base WITHOUT any screws. The top does not turn either ... to try to open up to change the light bulb? There are 3 slits on top that a screwdriver might fit into, but then what? I think this one is UNOPENABLE.... now what can I do??
I had a tree much like this one, the plastic base was cracked and the tree would lean to one side. It was also noisy as you could hear the motor running.
What do I do to remove a glued base of a winking merry Christmas tree; so, the on and off switch can be fixed. Or, do you know, who I can call to fix it in Wichita, Kansas?
I would simply dump the existing innards and grab a few dozen slow colour change 5mm LED's, and grind the tops flat, then mount them all into a circle and fill with clear epoxy. Then fit to the underside and fix the top section, then put in a 5V buck converter and a bridge rectifier and capacitor to feed them with 16VDC. that way no motor noise, and the lights will change in a varying pattern as well, and will look a lot better as well. You could put in a few fast cycle ones as well to get twinkling effects in a section which will probably look good, but limit the fast ones to around 5 tops. A few up lighting ones on the top cover through the holes ( with a switch) to provide base illumination, though there you would probably want to have a set of 3 colour leds instead and a controller to dial in a colour instead.

I love it!!! I have a tree very similar to that one, I can't wait to see what you do with yours.

I know - and probably have a few about the house that would do the job but would love to find the original one.....keep it as authentic as possible.
No fan, no thermal cut off switch and a MR16 halogen lamp, this sounds like a good recipe for a fire.
Tommy Oz mine has that stuff. It’s 47 years old and never blown up

Good video. So many breakages I would’ve thrown it away. I look forward to seeing the finished article.

I still have one of those, it runs on a 12v 10w halogen
I like these kind of video JW

What about installing a wifi colour changing led lamp or spot?
I can not get the base apart no screws or screw holes at all. I have two other round graphic cards I want to try.
My motor stopped spinning. Can I fix it.
How do you open the base to replace the bulb?
On this one, twist the top and lift off.
Others may be different.
where can I get the plug ins i have 2 places to plug in
Does anyone know where I could get a replacement motor??
Ebay or Amazon and similar places, search for 'TYC-40'

They really loved that tree, eh? Just couldn't accept it's death
I shattered the top of the base of my optic tree stand, I wondered if there was anywhere to buy a replacement base?

For a moment there I thought John had taken up gardening.

For an item that is only out for a few weeks a year in December, is doing all that really worth the time and effort.
I disagree with your definition of 'simply' 😄
Hi, how did you color the plastic plate?
Sharpie marker pens
Anyone know of a company or someone in the UK who can repair bases? I have one that's just died. An e-mail address would do. Thanks.
I knew I get 1st one day, other than the egg and spoon race
I can’t believe they’ve stopped selling these, my mums old one has broken and it was the first year without it. Nightmare
Melting inside screams structure fire risk, pitch it in the bin
turning motor detail please jerry in cyprus
Search for TYC-40 on Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress or similar.
There are various speeds, shaft lengths, fixing types.
