This is easily one of my favorite Rammstein songs, the emotion in Till's voice and the amazing guitar riff just gets me going.

Und Minz und Maunz, die schreien
    Gar jämmerlich zu zweien :
    „Herbei! Herbei! Wer hilft geschwind?
Im Feuer steht das ganze Kind!
    Miau! Mio! Miau! Mio!
Zu Hilf’! Das Kind brennt lichterloh!“

This song is based on an old and cruel german children‘s story called „Die gar traurige Geschichte mit dem Feuerzeug“… in my opinion Till‘s version is about the illness of pyromania: pyromaniacs think they love the fire and the fire loves them… but when uncontrollable fire has no love…

The lyrics are from a German Kid's book written in poem style. You might even know this book, because it's been published in many languages. "The Struwwelpeter" by the Frankfurt psychiatrist Heinrich Hoffmann in 1844. The name of this story is "The really sad story with the lighter."
Till did leave his fingerprint in the lyrics , as poet as well.
Love the song. With love from Germany 🤘 😎

I think the sickness is pyromania. "The fire loves me", because she's fascinated with fire, but "the fire loves me not", because it's lethal. It's a famous story about a girl playing with matches and burning down the whole house and herself.

As children here in Germany, we sometimes took a daisy and plucked the petals one by one and said: "He loves me... he doesn't love me... he loves me... etc.". Whatever was left at the end was valid. That's what the song is like, I think.

I have heard its about depression and suicide. The song says every time she's alone she's drawn to the fire.."why don't i get healthy" depression "it reaches for me, i dont resist" suicide... The fire loves her could be because it's killing her? And she wants to die...the fire does not love her could be regret? But its too late? The ending where she climbs up to the sun could be a release of her depression?

Rosenrot may be more of a b-side album with many unique sounding tracks, it is still great in it's own right. This is fantastic song.

The sickness of the child might be depression and the fire it is playing with self-harm or potential suicide. Because the fire seems to serve as an escape from the sickness and the death of the child through it in the end is portrayed as salvation.
"The fire loves me" because it takes away from the numbness of depression, but "the fire loves me not", because it will kill the child.

      I like that. :)
I also thought it could be many things. Like e.g. a woman in an abusive relationship.
Her mother may have had similar relationships ("wie es oft die Mutter hat getan").
Now she plays with fire being with a man that hate-loves her, until one day he finally kills her in a violent episode.
She's drawn to him even though she knows she's in danger staying with him. She knows about her emotional dependency to him (sickness) but can't help herself eventually ("immer wenn ich einsam bin, zieht es mich zum Feuer hin").
But this simplicity in describing concepts is one thing I really love about Rammstein. It's easy to interpret in many ways.

I think with the illness he might simply be referring to his addiction to fire (pyromania).
He loves the fire and might think that the fire loves him too, but then gets burnt and realizes that the fire doesn't love him.

For me it’s about kid’s curiosity- they always ask stuff like why is the sky blue - in this case curiosity, playing with matches, doesn’t end well.

    • @ITN_Global

      Yes, quite plausible

  • @tl04r
    @tl04r 2 года назад +3

My rather simple interpretation would be that the child is lonely and sad because of an illness, maybe it doesn't have many friends. So, it likes to play with fire when it's alone. When the fire jumps from the match to its clothes, the naive child thinks that the fire must be loving it, like a pet that jumps towards the child. But then the child realizes that the fire actually hurts the child, so the fire actually does NOT love the child after all.

As I see, Till tried to show what is happening when you're at first get in love with someone, but sickly, At first you feel loved, but soon you realize that all your world is being burned and destroyed and you realize that no, this sick love is not a good thing, I'm dying. This love is killing me. Why he used the "little child" character? Because you feel and act like child when you at first get in trouble with a sick love. Parents gone - I think it's a link to something 18+ or something near to that. I can't say exactly.

I always thought he said dich instead of mich so like "the fire loves me, the fire loves you not" ... like the voice in his head tries to warn him, I guess it doesn't really change much but I think my version is much more dramatic 😏

I think it's about drugs or some other kind of addiction (maybe pyromania?).
