Thanks for doing this one. I had mentioned it in another comment what an amazing song it is. I love your insight into this one. It is very deep but a very powerful song. I hope you react to Amour at some point too. It builds throughout the song like this one does.

I second that. You understand the lyrics better than many Germans. Great reaction. Thank you.
Also btw, imho one of the most underrated rammstein songs.

Highly underrated song from Rammstein. Though different layers of the lyrics this song holds a grip on my heart because I used to listen to it alot after a breakup. I then went to a period writing poems after talking to a techer that recommended it to get an outlet instead of keeping it all inside. I were later told that a student that read one of them said that she were going to commit suicide but it helped her from doing it. My heart melted at that moment. (The poem were insipired from "Morgenstern" by Rammstein).
If I were ever to listen to another band for the rest of my life it sure would be Rammstein!
However, I really like your content and that you really dive right in and tries to understand and break down the lyrics and what they mean. It's hard for even us hardcore Rammstein fans to know what it all means and it's such a delight to see someone new to "study" the lyrics due to the fact that we as long time fans just kinda have rolled with it for so long. It's nice to get a new set of eyes and even I have some "aha" moments by listening to your thoughts.. :)

Firstly, sorry to hear about the breakup, I know how much that sucks.
Secondly, thank you for the kind comment, really do appreciate it.

The water is a juxtaposition against the flames. He is the water, she is the flame. Therefore he knows he can never be with her because his water will put out her flame. In his mind, he's not worthy of her and can never have her so he sees himself as water never being able to have her, the flame. So therefore, he burns in the water, which is another brilliant metaphor, the burning being his rejection, which burns him.

Again, I have a bit of a different take! I see this as he's turned his past as an Olympic swimmer into a woman. He went to a east German/soviet swimming school and was meant to go to the Olympics but was banned and then had to quit from an injury so swimming was like the woman he couldn't have. He drown himself in fire from shame and guilt after with Rammstein. But he can't be both a professional swimmer and our Till anyway so I am glad it happened. Maybe I'm way off but either way I love him so much lol.

I don't know if you know it, but Till was an Olympic swimmer in his early years. Only the boycott of the GDR prevented him from taking part.

Did you say: Du hast dir schön den Mund verbrannt. = You burned your mouth nicely.
Great analysis! Yes, she is "out of his league". I see him as a fan who adores a music or movie star. At the beginning he describes how he knows the most intimate secrets of his star. He's not even interested in what everyone already knows (the breasts), but looks into every "nook and cranny" of the star's life to be even closer to her. He even describes how he meets his star and "possibly" shook her hand. Maybe at an autograph session. But this encounter was cold and very short. She didn't really realize how much he adores her.
I love this song text from Till.

We've all felt that desire and sadness that the person your admire is out of reach. Thank you for reacting to this. I think you would really enjoy Till collaboration with zaz for "Les Jardin Des larmes." It even has enough captions set up for it

As a German I think I understood that you sad in Afrikaans. In German there is a saying "Du hast dir (mit etwas) den Mund verbrannt" It means "you have burned your mouth (by doing something)". Is that what you just said?

I think you haven't reacted to "Ein Lied (a song)" from Rammstein yet.
That's a very unique and quiet one directed directly at their audience/fan base.
    Check it out bro :)

It's definitely a story about stalking. It's about the guy, who knows that you will never get the girl he wants, maybe because she's beautiful, and he isn't, maybe because she's rich, and he isn't, maybe she has a higher social standing or role and he hasn't. The fire and water are definitely a metaphor for that as well as a metaphor for his hot desire/lust and her beauty and and emotionlessness towards him. "Glatt wie ein Fisch" (slippery as an eel {adj} [idiom] - glatt wie ein Aal [Redewendung]) means superficial perfection with a shady core (blaming / hate-loving her) and could also mean he can never hold her, or she is unreachable. But it could also mean that he grabbed her and did something to her, while "kalt wie Eis" (clod as ice) could describe her feelings for him as well as hinting towards murder. Although definitely sxu al it is very poetic and well thought through. I think "sunken in sparks" means he has only eyes for his burning lust an and her as sparks emitting flame described desired something between her legs, and isn't able to think about what he is doing (to her). The "just" swimming after her signalizes he has no common sense on no-gos or is gaslighting himself.

I don't like the translation of 'glatt wie ein Fisch'. I think 'glatt' should be translated as 'slick' rather than 'smooth', the idea being that he's trying to violate her but the woman shakes him off and escapes.

Awesome!! Thank you so much for diving deeper into Rammstein..Thank you for not just playing thier music or just playing the videos with the most likes etc. I always like to say that what is it with most people?? Who think that Rammstein has only ever performed in either MSG or in Paris?! Which are amazing but damn thats all i ever see most react to...What about live at Rock Am Ring 2010(which IMO is just as good or even better than MSG) at Big Day Out Festival, Hurricane Festival,Völkerball, Hellfest, Aus Berlin, Wacken etc.. So love watching your reactions and i look forward to each and everyone..thank you 🙂❤

Love this song, pretty dark as usual.
Though, the smooth as a fish and cold as ice line is describing the touch of the lyrical I, since it embodies the water part in this analogy.
Relly like your working through the lyrics.

To me the reason why she is cold as ice is because she is already dead at this point. This could be another every-day horror story from the newspaper: A woman got raped and killed at a lake. Rammstein often seems to take the perspective of the culprit to desribe the madness. There are so many men that feel insecure and most man have the phsical potential to overwhelm a woman. Often they try to find wierd excuses. Like fire and ice do not match, that is why it happened, like a force of nature. But the sad truth is some sick loser can not handle his desire, which is triggered so hard that he is burning in the water. It is brilliant how the song take the turn i expected, in just one line he describes that the worst has happened: "I put my hands on her", then she was cold as ice.

My reaction is well to me it means in the beginning he is admiring her and really likes her but thnks she's somewhow out of reach..whether its true or maybe its just what he believes? She's so beautiful she'll never notice me..to then i believe he finally finds the confidence to make a move which he does but is IMO done rather aggressively(he was already turned on) i can picture them in the water and I'm thinking he's younger and you know how boys are..he probably swam after her and grabbed her maybe yanked at leg..etc. Trying to get her attention as only a young inexperienced boy knows(speaking here from personal experience as the female) and of course that freaks her out and she gets mad and tells him to stay away from her..so now he backs away and in his mind he was right "she will never waste her time on me" when maybe if he'd approached her in a more friendly manner she might've just said yes to him?

If you like German bands whose lyrics have a deeper meaning i would recommend Subway to Sally. I love their lyrics and the intrumentation is very special. unfortunately there are hardly any reactions to this band on youtube . Maybe you can check this one out. Good interpretation of the text. The song is about a peeper or Stalker who is chasing a woman. Till was an Olympic swimmer when he was young and still swims a lot today. That's when he got the idea for the lyrics.
