  • After a year of restoring this old 2003 Catamaran Cruiser, it's time to shake it out and see what needs to be done and learn the ropes of houseboat operations before our 1000-mile river journey on the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers late this summer.

    Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video. What a great hassel free boat. With no marina, haul out charges.

      Thanks, Andrew. Yes, you avoid some of these charges but at the inconvenience of having to launch. Still, for me, I feel better with my boat at home as I can maintain it better and it's more secure.

      Thank you, Irish! It is indeed calming to be out on the water. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I plan to post some videos soon from our recent trip in September, traveling down the Cumberland River, and up the Tennessee - about 1000 miles. Merry Christmas, and have a great New Year!

      You could, if I was an old single guy I think I could live on a boat. I have some young grandkids so that would probably keep me "grounded"

      Valid point. I do show the inside in a couple of other videos (briefly)but don’t go into any details. I’ll prioritize that and get something up soon.

    I have been looking at a 13 foot houseboat. I know it is a little small but it floats and the price is right.

    Very cool boat! What does the inside look like and how long is it? We have an 80ft Sumerset houseboat and it has been so much fun taking it out to islands. We’re going to check out your other vids to see how your river trip went 😀. Sounds like a lot of fun!

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing  Год назад +2

      80! Wow, I bet that's 14ft beam? Ha, makes our little boat look like a dinghy! I haven't put anything up yet on your trip, but I hope I can't get around to it soon. I thought I'd put up a couple more videos about some of the mods/upgrades we did to increase our chances of having a more relaxing and trouble-free trip.

      @DeepHouseboatLife Год назад +2

      @@justkeepgoing We'd love to see the mods y'all did or any vids from your trip! I bet others would, too. Ha ha, yeah...sometimes that 80ft-er can be a pain to navigate. Having a smaller boat like y'all's would be fun for exploring places that a houseboat likes ours can't necessarily access.

    I did not know anything about Catamaran Cruiser. How does the Catamaran take rough waves and can you get up on step? I need to look to see if you made a vlog on performance and handling ability of your house boat.

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing  5 дней назад

      Lawrence, The catamaran takes rough waves fairly well, up to a point. If the wave get over 2-3 ft, depending on the frequency of the swells, they will break over the deck. The hulls a displacement type so, no, they will not plane. The boat tracks quite well but with the large area of the cabin, wind can be a factor. Nothing scary though, at least on the small lakes and rivers we travel. You won't go anywhere fast in this vessel, but you will go in comfort.

    I'd do the Great Loop on that boat 🚢

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing  Год назад +4

      Greg, from my experience on larger lakes and high wind, I wouldn't want to get this boat offshore. It's a great little boat on rivers and small lakes but there just isn't enough freeboard to handle large waves. If you could stay inland on the Loop, it would probably work.

  • @RLoose9494
    @RLoose9494 Год назад

    What’s your range (gph) ? We are looking at doing some of the great loop out of Oklahoma

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing  Год назад +1

      Hi, Robert. The best economy cruise is at 6mph (5.21 knots), or 5 mpg. It equates to 1.2 gph on my Yamaha 70. In a recent trip we managed about 4 mpg due to the challenges associated with wind and current. With a 40-gallon tank we theoretically have about a 160-mile range, but we would always top off when we were down around 50%, depending on how marinas are spaced of course. You could do some of the Loop (plus a nice trip down the Arkansas). I wouldn't want to get offshore with one of these though. These are nice little boat in protected waters. We've met a lot of "Loopers" on the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers, some on their second loop!
