Part4 - Catamaran houseboat cruise on the Hiwassee River. It didn't go completely as planned.
A cool and cloudy day on the river. We didn't reach our intended goal, but sometimes you have to go with the flow, literally.

Part3-Cruising downbound to the mouth of the Hiwassee river. Houseboat Adventure on Tennessee Rivers
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.2 месяца назад
Locking through the Melton Hill dam early in the morning, we make our way south, back down the Clinch to the big river. We anchored overnight in the beautiful FooShee Bend area of Watts Bar. Next morning, we meander down river and lock through Watts Bar Lock, then take a little side trip up Sewee creek for lunch and a walk. We continue down river to the mouth of the Hiwassee spending the night ...

Locking through Melton Hill dam early in the morning gave us an entire day to get as far up the Clinch as we could, around 35 to 40 miles. Returning down stream on the following day, we anchored out a pleasant and quiet cove just above Melton Hill dam where we would be set to make the two day downstream run to the mouth of the Hiwassee. #houseboat #houseboats #tennesseeriver #tinyhouseboat #riv...

We're embarking on the Little Tennessee river on Tellico Lake. In this video, we travel down river to Fort Loudoun Lock and Dam. Locking downbound, we'll take the Tennessee River downstream on Watts Bar Lake then head up the Clinch River to get staged for locking through the Melton Hill Lock in a couple of days. Lots of large thunderstorms threaten, but with luck, we thread our way through the ...

Hurricane Ian is currently exerting a significant influence on weather conditions in the Southeast, introducing a refreshing shift in temperatures. We faced a severe early morning (1:30am) storm from the west that kept us alert during the early hours. Luckily, we managed to reset the anchor and finally got some sleep around 3 am. Hi Doug, that's a pretty good haul in a pontoon and alone at that. We wanted to start in Celina but I couldn't get my boat down that skinny steep ramp in Wolf Creek. Downstream at Roaring River, it was shoaled up from recent flooding in Kentucky so we had to settle for Granville. We're heading up Knoxville way here a few weeks. That's the only part of the Tennessee we haven't had the boat on (except below Kentucky dam).

    What a lovely little camper boat! It looks like you have a small outboard from e-propulsion as well, in addition to your 70-horsepower engine. I have one like that on my little boat in Stockholm, Sweden. It's not fast, but it's nice nonetheless. And quiet. Too bad that the season is coming to an end soon.

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing Месяц назад

      Thank you! So far, the Spirit has been a good motor. My only gripe is that you can't angle the tiller arm up and out like you can with most outboards. The tiller gets in the way on a small boat where you need to sit near the middle. I probably need a different dinghy. The season here doesn't end until late October, but we do get some fairly warm days during winter for getting out.

      The original motor was Nissan 90 2-stroke. The motor ran okay but having experience with Yamaha motors we wanted a Yamaha 4-stroke, just because it's smoother, quieter and newer. You can't launch on a steep ramp. There's a couple or ramps around here I can't use because I'm afraid it will flood the motor before it floats.

      Hello, Anthony. In this boat, no, but we've had some close calls. We did run the foot of the motor into the mud once, however. We set my depth warning on our sonar at 5 ft. , Even though we have an 18inch draft (24inch if you include the motor foot), this gives an ample "head up" since we are usually just puttering along at 5-6 mph.

      Thank you for watching, Lawrence. That house on the point there probably gets lit up when those large tows come through at night, though. Other times, it would be a pleasant view.

    What is incredible is how many times your on anchor and there are no other boats around you. It seems like your completely in nature with not other soul around. Most of the time I do not even hear man made noise.

      Hey Lawrence. We try and travel early or late in season for that reason. Also, having a boat with shallow draft opens up more opportunities to get up small streams and coves, away from most traffic.
