Once Jonalyn Lavarias escaped an abusive relationship, she spent a month in a shelter for survivors of domestic violence. She found grounding and healing in her own yoga practice and used her experience as a yoga instructor to help other survivors. Jonalyn Lavarias is a Filipino-American who grew up in Eagle River, Alaska. She has a BBA in Finance from the University of Alaska Anchorage and worked in accounting for 11 years in the oil industry, healthcare and non-profit businesses. She also worked on a commercial fishing vessel and for a hunting guide company for six years. In 2017, she drove her truck south to the Lower 48 on a solo road trip, making her way to the East coast. She is a Certified Yoga Instructor and a survivor of domestic violence with a mission to help people heal. She currently teaches Trauma Sensitive Yoga to the Savannah, Georgia community at local high schools, women’s shelters and hospice facilities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
WOW, I felt much more relaxed after participating in your breathing exercise. I’m sorry to hear about your story of abuse. Your talk is exceptionally moving. Keep sharing with the world.
A wonderful and moving talk, Jonalyn. I hope your suffering is over now and that you'll continue to find the strength to forge on with your life. You're such a beautiful young woman that any man who is lucky enough to share your life should naturally feel the urge to PROTECT you and not to beat you. Thank God you're still alive. I'm English but I live in France, and here statistics show that a woman dies approximately every 3 days at the hands of her partner (husband or just boyfriend). Some cases are so horrendous that I sometimes think that capital punishment should be brought back specially for men who kill women and children. Just one remark on a completely different subject: you share the same first name as one of my favorite singers who is Filipina like you and has one of the top 5 most beautiful voices in the world of singing. She sings under the name of Jona, but her full name is Jonalyn Viray (you can find her on RUclips). ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Thank you Kevin. I appreciate the kind words. I am in a better place now.
@@practicewithjonalyn I'm very touched by your reply, Jonalyn. And I hope that the terrible experience you went through won't prevent you psychologically from finding true love one day. And don't forget to look up your namesake singer. Jona sings perfectly in English, but unfortunately I don't understand when she sings in tagalog. Listen in particular to her cover version of the Dionne Warwick song from 1963 'I'll Never Love This Way Again' - it's absolutely incredible and proves that she has one of the most beautiful voices in the world.
,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…..
