Funnily enough I was one of the personal trainers surveyed in this study. I answered that I had no idea what happened but I ended up asking the same question as Dr Eades, why don't we consider the weight of food in managing body weight? I even wrote a blog about it as something of a hypothesis. So cool to see others, especially the calibre of Dr Eades, come to the same idea!

Love Dr Eades! Well, he is Prof Westman’s teacher, so how can I not?

    Great interview
On august of 2022, I published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology a mathematical demonstration that shows that CICO is FALSE
“The energy balance theory is an inconsistent paradigm” (Arencibia-Albite, 2022)
On 2020 I also published that a mass balance model outperforms CICO in predicting body weight fluctuations
“Serious analytical inconsistencies challenge the validity of the energy balance theory” (Arencibia-Albite, 2020)

1:02 Here in Germany low carb and ketogenic products start to appear in the supermarket - but I am not so sure if I like that too much. Problem is that the producers cheat on us with these labels - i.e. selling Maltitol laden products as low carb sugar free while those spike blood sugar at least as much as regular sugar. Or cheating with the "net carb" stuff, adding some fiber they can subtract and therefore have a nice label, but (un)fortunately our bodies keep accurate account of what we actually eat and do not respect any labels. So sometimes of course I see hauls from the U.S. and I am kinds envious for 3 minutes about all the keto-this, keto-that products but when I look closer into the ingredients, it is as "processed" as the regular processed food and I am sure this has downstream effects. Sticking to a whole food low carb or keto diet without all the surrogates for the old lifestyle might be the better longterm choice.

Brilliant !! Love it, yet another reason low carb diets are so effective.

I've been banging on about this for years!
The use of calories to describe anything to do with human diet is moronic.
Calories are units of heat, calculated by burning the subject materiel.
Our bodies don't use heat to break these materials down, we use enzymes, mastication, highly acidic chyme, peristalsis and other chemical means to break down these items into the constituent molecules that our bodies require for our homeostasis.
No simple application of heat is used in any of these complex biochemical and physical processes.
A unit that describes food value as a heat equivalent is therefore both futile and moronic.
It seems obvious to me - if I am wrong, someone please let me know how.

Im an overweight 26yo female and i find that i DO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT MY PROTEIN. My intakenin general when i eat until satiety is very high bc im very very hungry! All the time. Ugh. So i wish there was a better way for people like me, who have a naturally high appetite to loose weight. Im completely lion diet now and ive actually gained weight! In order to off set i had to micromanage my protein intake ontop of resisting carbs!! Its sucks. And after almost 3 weeks. Ive seen and felt no changes. So disappointing

Pick protein foods that are low fat.

Have you tried increasing fat instead of protein?

Fat is essential. I'm shocked he said it isn't. He's plain wrong. There are numerous fatty acids that are essential to human life.

That one confused me as well. My best guess is that the actual amount of essential fat is quite small. However, if fat is to be a main energy source instead of carbs, we need to go way beyond the essential level, of course.

It's not the weight of the food you consume, but the weight of the food that you store. No matter how much carbs you consume the body will store only a small part of it. Excess carb energy will be converted to be stored as fat -- a process that also requires energy use.

So, I am trying to understand this discussion. A vegan, to maintain weight, verses a carnivour maintaining weight. The vegan breaths out twice the carbon. Therefore has double the carbon footprint and is a threat to the planet due to climate change. 😂😂
