Using the IC-7300 at 0% TX Power and FT-1000MP at 5W

- Testing low transmit power on HF 20M between an IC-7300 and a Yaesu FT-1000MP. The distance is relatively short (544 KM) but this one I got on video for you to see. These tests usually reveal that the most important item is the antenna, not the power. Technically the IC-7300 still outputs approximately 700mW at 0%. For the antenna, I was using a 33 foot MFJ-1910 Telescoping Fiberglass Mast with an Icom AH-4 AutoTuner. Thanks to AJ2I for providing his video and very nice QSO.

I have confirmed with external RF watt meter, IC-7300 and IC-7610 0% setting outputs 0.4 to 1 W. It was good QRPp QSO.
Thanks, yea it's amazing, when there is low noise QRP can be very viable.
fantastic video Franck 73 from kb2uew you numero uno
Thanks Alvaro! 73
That was very cool being able to see and hear the QSO from both end edited together. I'm interested in QRP, but not necessarily field use (but your "go box" I think you called, is quite a way to try different things in the field, i.e. in your car). I've been debating between a IC-7300 and a QRP-only rig, and the 7300 seems to provide so much more bang for the buck with the built-in antenna tuner and the spectrum scope. What other radio do you have in your go box? 73 de W5PAZ(/HC) Gary in Ecuador
Hi Gary, it was unexpected to have AJ2I filming this on the other end, the Go-Box has an IC-7300 and IC-7100, the SDR output to the Laptop can be achieved with both. I have since un-assembled the Go-Box, now using a new Go-Box with a single IC-705, see the video in my channel. Thank you for the question and comments! 73 from Quebec!
Absolutely superb Frank, hope some of the new comers to radio watch this to encourage them in the UK with their 10 Watt power limit....well done 73 enjoy your radio and stay safe de G0VCW/QRP
Yes low power is amazing, the important point is the antenna and the location, 10 watts can go very far. Thanks for your comment and 73 from Quebec!
I'm a 100W barefoot kinda operator, but I am constantly amazed at US rag chews etc with guys using 1kW-plus to talk a few states over. I mean, yeah, you can do that, but . . . why? So uncessessary. I don't consider it good operating practice. Great video and demonstration!!
The 1st time I went that low I just could not believe it. With a few watts and a good antenna we can do a lot. We should use what we need to make the contact, nothing more. Thanks for comment! 73
What's your antenna please?
A MFJ-1910 33ft, at the base there is an Icom AH-4 AutoTuner
Thanks for the video, great job guys! If ever we could go back to the good ole times when houses were not flooded by the crap switching power supplies.
