As I listen to Slavko, S57DX in Slovenia, which is 6300KM away, I was wondering if I could make a contact using the IC-705 with only 5 Watts. I attempted contact for 11 minutes, and almost gave up. I have increased the speed so you don’t have to wait that long. QRP can be extremely fun… if we are patient enough.

Antenna: No Tuner, 16 feet vertical (MFJ-1979 with 3 sections collapsed) with the WRC Silver Bullet 1000 which is not really used on 20M but is used for 40M,80M. There are 3 Radials approx 12 feet. Everything is adjusted with the RigExpert AA-600 before transmitting.
Tripod: Manfrotto 055DB
All equipments used fits into a backpack.

Silly question maybe...what settings are you using on your waterfall? My 705 is definitely not that colorful or smooth scrolling.

My best is 5300 Kms, contacting RA6CA from Chennai India with 4 watts SSB from a Yaesu ft817nd. It was challenging, but we made it in 3 attempts. 73

Thanks Robbie, Interesting, I have tried with +4 Bass and +4 Treble but could not confirm if it really does a difference. I have yet to find someone to do tests with these settings and the TBW. At QRP power everything counts!

My best DX was on a Radio Shack 10m mobile at 10watts SSB into inverted V at 15feet on field day. From South Central Michigan to San Juan Puerto Rico, 1,990 miles/3,202km. I was using a car battery for power, so I was able to get extra points...low power, battery. Made a few contacts out West too. Great DX contact on your 705, thanks for sharing. 73 de N8WJQ/EN72jj

Very good set up for the ic 705. I use a shaving brush to clean the small dust particles off my rig that show up on the camera. My rig a kx3 gets a clean after every SOTA summit.
