Another cool fact not many people know is that Nissan were planning on putting a VQ35DE instead of the RB26 in the R34 GTR and there is actually a single prototype (RWD only) with a VQ in it haha
That's really interesting man. I glad they decided to stick with the RB26DETT instead! In fact, I would have been wrapped if the R35 had an engine based off the RB platform. Almost like what Ford did over the years with it's 6cyl's which resulted in the mighty Barra, but a Nissan RB update... Although the R35 ended up with a monster of an engine anyway, I just would have liked to see what Nissan could have done with the RB platform
I may be wrong here Andrew, but in the R33 GTR manual it states that there is two methods of changing from 4wd to 2wd. One is remove propeller shaft of course. The other is to remove air evacuation connector, depress brake pedal 5 times within 10 sec after placing the ignition switch to ON position. The warning lamp for 4wd will now flash twice per second. This method has been used for cars on dyno in Japan and other places.. When checking on internet forums, there is even guys who have confirmed that there is no preload on the front wheels with the car in the air on hoist. I have tried this method myself on my R33. I have also wired a switch on the connector so it is easier to use.
In 2012 I was fortunate enough to visit Global Auto in Japan, where they treated me to a drive in and photoshoot of 1/18 V-Spec II N1 BNR34’s ever made, which was bone stock outside of NISMO side skirt extensions, rear bumper extensions and blue TE37’s. When you have an experience like that, it kind of makes every other GT-R you experience feel kinda meh!
The pair of test wires under the dash in 33 and 34 for rwd dyno testing and bleeding the atessa hydraulic are very under utilized/ known about. It's in the manual that that's its purpose. Also puts the abs in 2 channel

Another interesting thing is that Silica Breath was incorrectly translated from Japanese and should actually be “Brass” - Bu ra su ended up being translated to breath.
There might be different versions of the attessa in the r32 gtr, because the one I'm used to driving doesn't need to be turned off to switch back to AWD, you just need to come to a stop for a couple of seconds.
Great video, a lot of new information has been gained.... The origin of the Godzilla name blew me away the most, I've always been on the understanding that the name was coined from the Group A days.
this is awesome, the godzilla fact was super cool also mad respect for not using color + trim to determine rarity, the corvette guys that do that are just clowns lmao
There is still ways to put a R33 GTR in RWD. Used to do it to mine and never had an issue.. there is a plug under the dash ( orange/yellow plug ) unplug it, start the gtr, tap the brake 3 times and it’s RWD. Never had any issues even going back into AWD.. for R34 GTR, we just pull the fuse out from the engine bay fuse box and it was RWD.. never had issues doing it also.. I just wouldn’t recommend doing for dyno runs, burnouts, no problems haha
well, the reason R32 GT-R is more of a godzilla for me is because it was the first GT-R that really exploded on the tracs/magazines/gran turismo and were really nice and good cars and were the fundation of the the r33 and r34
Great content! But a little more research into the disabling the 4wd on R33 GT-R would if been good so people have the correct information before they go pulling shafts. The factory service manual on page 18 shows the instruction on how to do this process correctly and is used by Japanese tuners when dynoing. I built a custom atessa torque split controller that would enable this mode during startup when you flick a switch. It simulated the correct process from the manual and worked very well on my R33 GT-R. There are so may more features built into these GT-R’s and their ECU’s that were so ahead of their time. Nistune has come a long way to keeping things looking stock and having modern control over the ECU. Obakemono! What a name!
The spelling thing is probably because NissanUSA has it listed as GT-R on their website. At least for the R35 that’s how they spell it. Not sure if the Japan site has the same for the R35.
It’s been GT-R since it’s release in 1989
