What mojang could easily do instead is just require servers to have a “adult_content:true/false” setting for servers and warn players when they join. And boom, if some parent gets annoyed their child is playing with guns, mojang/Microsoft can easily say “hey, we gave a warning, and the server is set to true for adult content, so you can’t get mad at us.”
Overall the biggest problem is that there is no stated set of rules, but only unclear suggestions. This makes some moderators either misinterprate at best, or distort the rules to make some servers fall into the category of "Breaking the EULA" because of their personal biases at worst.
@luke thomas bro when I say "don't do anything bad" to 50 people are they all gonna think if the exact same thing? No - it's too generic and allows for crazy misinterpretation. For example, I could tell a smoker and someone who stands against smoking to "not do anything bad" and the smoker is gonna smoke because from their perspective it isn't bad whereas the other person clearly aren't going to smoke a cigarette because, from their perspective, it's bad. Do I need to lay it out any more clearly?
Welp if all else fails and mc goes down this path we will just have to support hytale and hope that we can bring all are favorite mini games and ect there
Fun fact the first thing you see when clicking on the multiplayer button on a new instance of minecraft is "Caution: Online play is offered by third-party servers that are not owned, operated, or supervised by Mojang Studios or Microsoft. During online play, you may be exposed to unmoderated chat messages or other types of user-generated content that may not be suitable for everyone."

9:40 The ironic thing is, as said in PheonixSC's comment section, crossbows are legally considered firearms in several countries across the globe. The server owners need to get some lawyers from both the EU and the US because this is bad.
But woke leftists think Firearms 'guns' are immoral and they have a social duty to ensure kids don't think they're cool. Mojang was never considered the good guys more people are just becoming aware of how draconian they can selectively be about their Eula, things like this have popped up since the days Notch ran the company, infact he sold minecraft because of the backlash of one such Eula enforcement, history has shown time and time again that Mojang is like this, they are normally super lax about their Eula but suddenly out of nowhere they crack down hard alienating large portions of their community and then go back to being lax while they rebuild good will.
@@The_Gardara A LOT of people considered mojang the good guys. I remember arguing with people who would always defend mojang, or pushing the blame onto microsoft entirely for minecraft's problems.
There's a Minecraft splash text that reads, "Also try Terraria!" Terraria has 37 different guns (20 of which are hardmode exclusive) in the vanilla game. Therefore, Mojang is advocating for a game with a similar target audience that includes firearms IN VANILLA GAMEPLAY. Just something to think about.

This wouldn't be the first time Mojang's been getting away with breaking European laws. I heard that Mojang's own telemetry is non-compliant with GDPR.
I don't think my issue with post 1.12 dogwater optimization can be traced to EULA, but Good Lord I'd be rich if I have one dollar for every problem regarding EULA.
@@LiEnby Don't the multiplayer screen show something like the servers being third party and mojang not controlling them? when you enter it for the first time.
Mojang has been on a steady decline since they were sold to Microsoft. The decline seems to be getting faster with the chat reporting and banning of guns.
Notch added suicide bombers into the game and he didn't care about it being cruel, and he even made an achievement about dropping a pig off a 50 block cliff with a carrot on a stick. Mojang now won't add any real life mobs that can deal damage because they think it will cause a bad influence. As if that will happen, it will probably make those kids be more careful
the potential discrepancy you pointed out at the end between the people writing and enforcing the eula is one of the main problems i had with the chat reporting from the very start, because what would wind up happening is either people getting false banned by a faulty algorithm (because making a perfect system is impossible for a moderation task), or the sheer amount of people that would need to be hired to look over the reports would almost certainly have some personal bias one way or another and make decisions that may not entirely comply with the already-sketchy-and-overreaching guidelines much like what is shown here
Mojang employee plays Terraria, has a heart attack (there are guns, sharks, and guns that are also sharks in the game) But yeah it's really concerning that Mojang seems to care more about pixelated guns than, you know, literally exploiting children for money from gambling. Every year they just prove themselves to be the enemy of the Minecraft community more and more
I've just about had it with the lack of communication between levels of these companies, and what sucks is all it takes is one person in the middle to not care enough. It pisses me off
It WAS mentioned in the video that they excepted their own weapons from their ban, and fantasy weapons like laser blasters. But yeah, it's all soo retarded
it's not about weapons. the employees are leftists and liberals, they're anti gun period, and think they have a moral duty to ensure kids do not think guns are cool.
I've got a feeling there's something bigger, as the excuse 'it's to protect the children' or something along those lines is never just that, there's always something else going on
The gun thing is so dumb, fake virtual pixelated guns wont hurt anybody. All of this reminds me of a good quote: "Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak just because a baby can't chew it." - Mark Twain
They ruined competitive servers. I understand some we're pay to win but they completely removed the possibility of winning money for being on the top of the leaderboard. That just makes less people wanting to play. Also them blocking servers for "p2w" even though its not, just shows that the employees at mojang don't actually play to see if its actually p2w or not

My worry is that this is going to affect the modding scene, and not just the gun mods. Yes, they could go after Crayfish's, and Timeless and Classics, but when do we stop? Will they go after something like Ice and Fire? Mods that are based off of real IPs made by fans? Things like, (in my experience) New Tardis Mod, and Dalek Mod? And what about tech mods, I mean, some of the stuff that is kinda referenced in mods like Mekanism, or Create is not "safe" for children. When does Mojang finally realize that they, #1, cannot moderate everything, and #2, if they want the game to thrive need to allow freedom of expression and/or creativity within the game. Yes, its their game at the end of the day, but how far do they take this?
Microsoft AND mojang employee culture is that they all have the same liberal ideology. There is zero real conservatism. Thus, they are having freedom without restraint to foist their beliefs on the players "for the greater good". Just like they made gun emojis into squirt guns when leftists got hysterical. Every community needs a balance of ideologies. mono-ideologies result in this kind of behavior. And yes, it is political. I am not simply bringing politics into the discussion. From banning hate speech to banning gun references, this has all been liberal politics. We can cry about conservatives when games begin banning blasphemy.
Yo I'm about to download all the gun mods at least the good ones like tech guns and Vic's modern warfare and I am going to hide them in a folder. And if I miss one I'm just going to use the way back machine
They literally shouldn't be able to do this. You paid for the software, you pay for the server. They're degrading the decentralized nature of it all and are essentially slowly taking ownership of these servers.
They're in their right to shoot themselves in the knee and watch us create something else apart of their game and tell them to buy a giant ass server and host it for free like they want us to And I tell you they would fucking not. They would market the everlasting shit out of it when they realise they gotta feed electricity and mainteinance to that massive lad
I feel like letting your child (5-9 probably) go gambling in minecraft is a worse influence then letting them play doom instead. Guns in video games usually aren't very harmful to children, and letting them use guns in video games will probably teach them that guns are dangerous (with a bit of guidance)
Everything third party will be eventually banned, even for single player. Java players dont pay microtransactions to Mojang, so they want to get rid of them cutting all sources of new content. They will force them to move to bedrock or stop playing
That wouldn't be such a bad idea. On public servers I see so many skins of naked people it's not even funny anymore. But Mojang would most definitely implement it wrong.
I immagine q new directive. Skins with any pixel of red on them will result in the account being deleted. Red is a symbol for negativity and its not nice to spread negativity.
That would be so damn satifying, if mojang breaks laws and the EU basically goes "If you continue like this we WILL block the game here" I can 100% guarantee those e-mails are comming from "mojang" in the US. Mojang in sweden seem to have compitent people working there

@@sekinnnnn1121we are planning to do exactly that and remove our donation store if/when Mojang goes after the server. We can't even take donations that give nothing in return because Mojang still counts that as commercial. Just know that Minecraft servers cost thousands of dollars a year to cost and we are extremely lucky to be able to afford that without direct support from players.
If you miss it, help support the development of an alternative Yggdrasil authentication API. We have the means to not be censored by Mojang or Microsoft by forking away from their control ecosystem. This is at least true for legacy java clients with the potential of freeing more current versions of the game through modding. Mojang has royally screwed over alpha customers by imposing all these rules that are not contractually permitted under the terms of sale. Banning players for breaking "community guidelines" for example is not a thing that exists in my contract. Giving a third party the ability to report my account resulting in the potential of an automated ban is also not permitted. Banning blockchain technology? Mojang is not entitled to enforce that. Banning pay to win? Same. Bad language? Again, same. We don't have to like these things or play on servers that have them, but Mojang does not have the authority to impose censorship and conformity and has continued to operate in breach of their contracts with early adopters by ignoring their rights as customers.
@@peppermintpig974 Spot-on accurate. This is the equivalent of Netflix trying to dictate the required amount of lighting and speaker setup you have in order to watch their content. People simply saying "it's in the EULA" like this it is gospel. One can write whatever they want into an EULA, it doesn't automatically mean that is legally enforceable. Plenty of much more robust contracts and legal documents have been thrown out by courts and deemed nullified due to things just as this, there is an entire field of law practice devoted to it.
@@ForeverZer0 It is as you say. It's like Netflix dictating speakers and ambient conditions prior to watching a show through their service. They keep adding new restrictions without any regard for the agreement we entered into. The EULA isn't gospel per se as it can be conditioned by state or national law. However typically the terms you agree to at the time of purchase have a more solid foundation, one way or the other. When I purchased the game I was promised access to all versions of the game as well as add-ons. Mojang later on declared that it would not include versions of the game developed for other platforms. While I can be persuaded to purchase additional copies of the game to support such development, the four corners of the contract do not allow them to deny access and to weasel out of the terms because they are the ones that drafted the agreement and the other party (myself) is lawfully entitled to interpretation in the ambiguity of the agreement. And ultimately it was never my intention to take advantage of Mojang. Sadly they have taken advantage of me and we're in a situation where self-help seems like the only way we can attract their attention to the issue. This has led to another infringement: Microsoft and Mojang are holding back content I am entitled to for free behind a paywall. They claim you are required to purchase minecoins, then you can purchase add-ons with said coins. No avenue has been provided for alpha customers to get that content. Another policy that Mojang proffered at the time of purchase was that as long as they existed as a company that Mojang would provide authentication/server support for the game. This has been infringed through the forced migration.
@@iDontProgramInCppit's not simple enough to just say that. If Mojang is being zombie controlled by Microsoft or not, their departments are still going to be called "Mojang". First of all, TYVM for covering the issue surrounding our gun servers! I am still in disbelief of how Mojang can classify pixelated guns as adult content. Roblox gun games (Phantom Forces) can get an age 9+ rating just by removing blood. Why isn't Mojang letting us do the same? Since Minecraft is rated 10+ there's be no issues, right?
it’s still dumb because any reason they’d have for not allowing it in a monetized server can also apply to a free server, and it’s not like Mojang is losing anything from allowing these servers to exist, besides maybe potential entitled parents as customers.

The strangest thing is Mojang trying to make Minecraft entirely for kids, Minecraft has just as large of a player of adults as kids. It'll be hard and I dont know it'll be done but maybe some kid of age gating for servers can be done? This of couse will be quite bad as adult servers can rise but Mojang should really think of better ways than just banning servers.
Ahh yes, the game where NO ONE can tell you what you can or cannot do. I understand making the base game itself kid friendly, but Minecraft has a very large adult player base and the no guns rule is basically a middle finger to all of them. Good job Mojang, you pissed off the people who have the wallets.
The only reliable time/way Mojang can check for "bad" servers is during the authentication process when you're joining a server, but this only works when you're playing with an account logged into the Mojang server, so just by playing offline/warez you should bypass this entire process because the server doesn't care if you own the account or not. Lack of authentication in offline mode is why plugin like AuthMe exist.
Same things happens when a f*scist regime is getting into power. I mean, Minecraft EULA isn't as important as laws of a country, but the pattern is similar.
Yeah, they dont own any of the features, items, sounds, anything you have coded in yourself. They only own the base code of minecraft, yet they act like they own everything, including the players.
About the entire gun thing, wouldn't It technically make It fantasy enough If the servers did something like valorant, where even though the guns are realistic, they have fictional names
Guns that are fictional yet work like real guns. The issue we have is that the enforcement team doesn't even seem to know what they are enforcing, vagely following what the irrationally added rule may or may not mean. The solution is to scrap the entire thing.
The issue some communities in other games and minecraft try to use the term "donation" to make the item 'unable to be refunded" it breaks the law in the US at least and other places.
I love the features that have been added to Minecraft since the Microsoft purchase but I think the game probably would have been better off if Notch never sold it.
I'm honestly not sure about that. Notch isn't exactly the pinnacle of modesty, morality, and good practices. Also, it would've been ruled over by one crappy person instead of several crappy people with a few good ones sprinkled in to somewhat balance out the idiocy. I'd say having several people is better than one person if most of them are going to be piss-poor at their jobs, or as people.

IMO, Microsoft and Mojang should have NO HAND in which servers are banned or not. This is just as bad as chat reporting IMO, just a different audience for the terms.
I am most disturbed by the "kid-only content" part. My server has a deep lore that is not just the typical and boring "good guys X bad guys" with a good ending, sunshine and rainbows. It's more like a Game of Thrones story. With history spanning over 1300 years, conflicts, murders, intrigues and more... There is moral dilemma, arguments, shady decisions and even if you have a "good guy", he still might be a murderer. And now I should be scared that based on this, I might be forced to close my server. Just because it's not kid-friendly, because it was never ment to be. There is literally a story in the lore about a mage that forced a baby into a girl's womb by magic. A story with a brutal massacre where a few assassins ambushed a group of soldiers, they literally cut each other into pieces and only one, that betrayed all, was left. All this is not literally present on the server, but it is mentioned and you can find it in the history or talk about it with characters and NPCs. It might seem sick to some people, but it's art and history. Nothing was always nice in our own past... So fuq you, Mojang...
These arbitrary rules our Mojang and Microsoft overlords have and are setting in place are absolutely ruining Minecraft. So many things now I can't do in my own spawn world (that no one will see) that I don't want to play my favorite game anymore! 😭😔
Moderation is a very imperfect art. Mistakes will always be made, and as long as a platform is willing to own up to mistakes I can forgive a lot. But MS has been so incompetent and inconsistent, and with the whole chat ban thing even on single player and private servers, that it’s clear they have a long way to go if they want regain community trust. I’m even fine with them changing to not allowing “real” guns, but they need to offer a clear alternative that FPS servers can go down before they invest in making changes.
At this rate, I’m convinced that Mojang is just a soulless husk (no pun intended) whose body is being used as a puppet by Microsoft to use the Minecraft name for easy money.

4:03 I'd argue that selling unbans is a good idea on paper, but a bad idea in practice. On paper, like you said - if you cheat, you get banned, then you can pay to get another chance. In practice, though, this gives a monetary incentive to server owners to ban players, then just direct them to the store. Kids that don't really understand the value of money are more likely to take mom's credit card and punch in the funny numbers to get back on their favorite Minecraft server with all their friends. Plus, it means that cheaters with deep pockets can just pay again and again to get unbanned. Server owners can claim they're doing something about cheaters, showing bans, but that doesn't mean anything when the cheaters can just give the server owner some money and be back on the server to cheat some more. As for the practice of Mojang banning Minecraft servers, honestly I think it was a bad idea that should never have been implemented, and should be disabled. It's the same problem with chat reporting and global bans, really, just from the perspective of players. Just like server owners should have the ultimate say in (and ultimate responsibility for) who is and isn't allowed to play on their server, players should have the ultimate say in (and ultimate responsibility for) what servers they connect to. It'd be one thing if this was being done on Realms servers, since those are owned and operated by Mojang and just rented out to players - it makes sense that Mojang should be able to decide who and what is and isn't acceptable. Community servers, though, aren't affiliated with Mojang outside of running their game - usually heavily modified at that. Even Valve (through VAC) only bans cheaters, and they allow server owners to opt-out of that banlist with the understanding that they'll be allowing cheaters onto their server. Yes, there are servers who will try and exploit kids for money since they don't know any better - but at the end of the day, it's not Mojang's responsibility to stop kids from being stupid. That's on the parents. The biggest problem with it though, as you showed in the video, is the complete lack of consistent, defined rules on what is and isn't acceptable, which all but requires Mojang moderators to make on-the-fly decisions on what is and isn't allowed on a case-by-case basis, with no care for precedent. Assuming they're not going to completely stop blocking servers (which they should), at minimum they need to lay out *exactly* what is and isn't acceptable commercial usage of a Minecraft server. Letting their outsourced moderation decide on a case-by-case basis isn't fair to anyone, and giving preferential treatment to the biggest servers (like Hypixel) is morally bankrupt, if not outright criminal in some jurisdictions. Thankfully, the issue of blocked servers is far less severe than the issue of global bans, since bypassing blocked servers just requires a Fabric mod (at least for now). Global bans are another issue entirely - Mojang has weaponized their authentication servers (which is how you're banned even on pre-1.19 versions). When you're banned, Mojang is essentially revoking your receipt to show you paid for Minecraft.
Servers are not public organizations. It is comparable to breaking an internal rule of an arcade (but not something illegal) and paying to get unbanned
@@sekinnnnn1121 No it's neither. It clearly breaks the conditions for charging for access to a server, i.e. everyone must be charged the same for access. A ban list is maintained by a server, and people can be banned for arbitrary reasons. Therefore paying for an unban is actually a form of paying for access, which is not allowed if the same barrier is not there for everyone. And don't come with an argument like "yeah but everyone has to pay to get unbanned". That's the problem. Getting banned can be arbitrary, and it would allow the admins to blackmail players into getting unbanned - and Mojang would likely be held liable for allowing it. If you wanna run a real-world business in Minecraft, you have to respect the real-world rules. The opportunity to make money off a private server is a *very* unique privilege, not some right.
I feel like Mojang/Microsoft needs to do a full rewrite of the EULA in order to make it easier for players and server admins to understand what is and is not allowed, as the current situation just causes more headaches for clientele
Hate to break it to you, but practically every EULA for everything is exactly like Mojang's. In theory, the vagueness gives them wiggle room to quickly deal with things not explicitly stated but very much in breach of the spirit of the rules. Especially important if people find a way around the EULA that breaks laws. These days, it's used to arbitrarily ban whoever does something that annoys insufferable & inconsistent self-appointed moral arbiters.
They wouldn't care about the backlash at all, because it doesn't affect their revenue stream, and that's all Mojang and Microsoft care about. Why keep a community happy if it doesn't give you more profits?
I have never before seen a company that would be so intrusive about server contest people make. Hell, i dont even know a company that would dictate what is or isnt allowed on someone's server by gatekeeping them from being able to connect to. I feel there will be some breaking point at some point and people will be looking for ways to ommit the code server bans or use. Tho idk how the server bans work

Or the fact there’s an advancement with eating everything even if it’s literally poison. Or the fact there’s also an advancement for inflicting yourself with all of the potion effects, regardless of whether they are harmful or not.
And once again mojang power trips like crazy, further killing off what little goodwill the community still has. If only minecraft had a competitor with more decency...
I think the main intention of Microsoft is to kill off the Java version by pointing out one or the other reasons while not explicitly terminating java version , until we all be subject to their Minecoin sick Bedrock, because why would we buy marketplace maps or skin , when we can get them for free in Java. I don’t like where this is going.
After much study on this subject, I believe this is their plan. They want to get more mod developers working on bedrock plugins, but they still have problems encouraging users to use bedrock because of the bugs. Once they iron that out java will be killed off I believe. That way they fence off and gatekeep who can create mods. Banning firearm mods was a foreshadowing of their goals via policy. I will be contacting the FTC over their blatant fraud, so watch for my future comments on the subject since I need help promoting the issue and getting other customers, particularly early adopters, to file legit reports on their violations.
These issues have degraded my love for the game as a whole as it feels less and less like that game about exploring creativity expression and fredom and more about what gets the most money and controversy im so tired of mojang letting these things slide I get it’s not entirely the devs fault but still. (I won’t even get into why Microsoft as a whole is a issue)
Mojang 1.21 update: 1. Removed axes since kids can kill people with them. 2. Made villagers and pillagers unkillable since killing them is murder. 3. Made all blocks unbreakable as breaking blocks may entice kids to harm the environment. 4. Disabled pvp entirely. 5. Made all mobs unkillable since killing them is damaging nature. 6. Removed swords and bows. 7. Added 'loot block' that allows you to get a random block by paying with emeralds. 8. Since blocks are unbreakable emeralds now must be bought with minecoins. 9. Added minecoin shop that allows you get a random amount of minecoins per spin with each spin costing 1$
Countless servers have had to shut down purely because of the EULA, designed to make servers impossible to make money, just so Mojang can force players to use their realms. Shame on them.
@@svetlananikolaeva8039 Mojang doesnt give an absolute fuck about you. Community management is atrocius and that is on mojang. Development is an absolute chaos and that is on mojang. Mojang would be the same without microsoft
Honestly, I think that someone powerful at Microsoft is hiring a team of server "finders" that need to find and block a number of Minecraft servers per week/month that supposedly "violate" Minecraft's EULA (probably the same person that forced chat reporting to be added lol). That would explain why some servers get blocked and some don't.
If you're an alpha customer, reply with your sales contract and let them know there will be serious consequences for violating your first amendment and contractual rights.
The trouble is that server owners, even as a group, couldn't afford to out-lawyer Microsoft into getting a clear determination on these things. So even if Microsoft/Mojang doesn't have a leg to stand on, well, they'll just ban you and there's no way you can afford to take them to court.
IMO, the solution is two prong: Constant social media protest, and filing legitimate FTC reports against both Microsoft and Mojang. I'm almost done drafting a letter but I am waiting on feedback before I send it. And if all else fails, the non litigation route is based on developing alternate authentication solutions so that wrongfully disabled access or deleted accounts from customers in good standing can resume enjoyment of the game and break free from Microsoft's obsession over controlling it all (valid for all early adopters without a revision clause to create these tools), and get to pushing back when frivolous lawsuits arise.
I think they kept everything vague because of how complex it is to determine if something is Too p2w and that, which would work well if that was what they used it for but now they're just using it to ignore p2w and do whatever they want. also I feel like just changing the textures and names of guns wouldn't really effect the community that much, people will still play it if it is the same gameplay
4:00 I agree that conceptually paying for unbans makes sense, but... The only server I've EVER been banned from intentionally bans over the smallest possible things and sold stupidly expensive unbans. I was banned by a moderator for "rude behaviour" when I was talking to them normally, and they didn't even have a moderator tag! I thought they were just a regular player. Permanently banned because I "had the wrong tone". $50 to be unbanned. I never played that server again, but I'm sure they got rewarded for each ban they issued.
The gun thing reminds me of a laser tag place I went to some years ago where someone tried to name themselves “sharpshooter” was refused but changed it to “sniper” and was totally fine because “there was no reference to shooting or guns
Unbans are a dangerous thing to sell bc it could encourage servers to ban players for the slightest rule offense and then have them pay up to continue playing

I'm pretty sure that when Mojang said "gambling" they meant real money gambling.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely
Minecraft was good because the rules were decentralized and it depended on the server you played on.
emphasis on "was"
Unbans could be compared to paying to get out jail, Which some people debate should not be the case.
Servers are not public organizations. It is comparable to breaking an internal rule of an arcade (but not something illegal) and paying to get unbanned
@@sekinnnnn1121 wait. You could do that?
yeah paying to get unbanned has always seemed fair imo because you can pay to bail out of prison depending on your crime in some places
@@fituuu agreed. But some people still dislike it because it means the rich is freed from crime.
Thankyou for continuing to make amazing content.♥
Remember when you could do anything you wanted with Minecraft? I miss those times, and desperately want to go back.
Can you imagine the backlash they would get if they actually blocked Hypixel?
Mojang will sadly get backlash in that case, not Microsoft. But either way, it will probably be unbanned after a couple days/hours in that case

@@svetlananikolaeva8039 its mojang making these decisions, stop apologizing for them

It's insane the amount of comparisons and analogies that can be drawn with RUclips itself when it comes to these issues. It's just déjà vu

Banning anyone that has played over 20 hours and unban costing 50 bucks
