I think gambling with crates on servers is fine as long as the only way you can get the ‘keys’ is by completing in game quests, or doing stuff in game without spending any real money
Minecraft when servers have guns: we will ban you. Minecraft when servers are p2w: nothing ro see here. It is sad to see that minecraft is focussing more on unneccesairy things than preventing people from being scammed.
Now imagine the kind of damage people could do to these servers if something like Bedrock exploits were capable of occurring in java (ya know the minecart + command block thing) I don't think it'd be as simple as a roll-back to fix someone deciding to nuke a server w/ something like that.
Snapcraft isn't bad these days. I think SalC1 did an entire series on it. They still have crate keys etc, but you can get those through voting, playtime rewards etc, so you don't have to buy the keys. Only money I've spent on there was to by the VIP rank so I could Silk Touch my spawners to move them, and I didn't even need to do that as a day later I got a voucher from my daily vote keys which won me a voucher for the power to silk touch spawners lol.
almost every server does backups every few hours, you cant do actual damage unless you get on a dupe for hours all over again after they roll back to the old save
Some dupe strats revolve around during a fuck ton, hiding the items for weeks or months, and then distributing them. Even if they backup it won't get rid of the items
I think it’d be wise to dupe in moderation and slowly ruin the economy over time. Then rolling back would result in a huge loss of builds, and everything people cared for. It’d truly hit a server hard
@TorchCTI Alright thanks for that info. I wasn’t aware of these plugins and wish I had them when I ran my Minecraft server, since some people found a dupe vulnerability and went to town.
Hundreds of people comment this thinking they're geniuses. In reality, they're being stupid. They're content creators. The main purpose is to create content. Is it fun to watch them slowly give people items over the course of months? No, of course not.
I feel like lagging out a server is much better, less of a hassle then dupes, just as much panic from the more trying to figure out what the heck just happens to their server
i was wondering why a little bit ago why a server i had played on had changed so drastically... (for the better) the community of the server patched the holes of the p2w nature before that. they were nice.
I found and used a donutsmp dupe for ages but was banned after it was discovered. Basically you could sell an item on the /ah for a negative value, then buy it on an alt and gain money instead of loosing it.
Duping is not enough. We need to see genuinely server-destroying exploits and attacks being used against these servers. Lags, crashes, destruction, etc.
I would love to send a notice to Microsoft on Twitter or something asking why they encourage underage gambling. Then when they say they don't, respond with lists of screenshots of the different servers shops showing the crate spinners and flashy effects, explaining that these servers are using roulette wheels to decide an item to give to players which you pay for spins of to receive unobtainable items and flashy cosmetics. See how long they can ignore it when it starts getting spammed at them
I dont think theres any excuse for pay to win mechanics. They could easily go down the wynncraft route and make their loot boxes only contain cosmetic items, but that actually takes effort
With the new EULA change, they made it obvious that you’re aren’t allowed to sell in game content or out of game content to give a advantage or anything that isn’t available to a regular player. It means that none pay to win and pay to win purchases aren’t allowed if they give anything that is remotely exclusive, although Microsoft probably won’t do anything because they know that java server and content creators create way exposure for them on social media. So I don’t see why they would take legal action on your server to shut it down when you’re doing more for them than for yourself. Great video and genuinely like the information you provide. ❤
The "EULA" has been wildly misinterpreted for years (which is also Microsoft's fault), I'll make a video in the future talking about the truth of p2w more, but in the meantime my video called "Mojang threatened to block my Minecraft server" provides some context on how the guidelines are actually applied to servers
I don't exactly condone p2w servers but still think they should have the freedom to monetize however they like (besides stuff like gambling, if the server is meant for kids)
Hundreds of people comment this thinking they're geniuses. In reality, they're being stupid. They're content creators. The main purpose is to create content. Is it fun to watch them slowly give people items over the course of months? No, of course not.
Used to play on a server called Aspiria few years ago, totally pay to win, ranks of like 100$, fortnite like season passes, op crates, the highest rank would give you free op loot with like all enchants at 10, fly and godmode. Got bullied off it because i claimed abandoned buildings (they would unclaim after like 3 months of not playing) and were mad that i was bricking their server with like 70 hoppers because it couldn't handle my storage system
Well you say you can’t do long term damage, I say there’s always a way (a legal way) just takes some thinking a hard work, I don’t think there’s a P2W server out there that you can’t crash, keep up the good work.
"selling entitlements that affect gameplay provided they dont ruin other players experience or give competitive advantage". isnt this literally the definition of "no pay to win"?
The main issue is this: 1: Kids are gullible, and parents aren’t giving a damn on what their kid is doing, and giving the kid their credit card. 2: Money makes the world go round 3: No one cares as long as they get money. No matter how immoral. People today just don’t give a damn. No morality. No common decency.
You're way too forgiving to these servers, if a server needs predatory micro-transactions to stay up then it shouldn't stay up. There is no such thing as a "good balance" between pay-to-win purchases and cosmetic ones. There is a reason the kinds of monetization in these servers are considered exploitative. People genuinely get hurt by these kinds of practices, and regardless of whether or not they "need" to have those micro-transactions to stay afloat, the consequences are still felt. Personally, I lost a lot to a LOOONG term gambling habit I picked up from TF2 back like 10 years ago, and children even younger than I was fill these servers. It may seem small when you think of it as just one random minecraft server, but it's not just one minecraft server, its a trend. At best, players are given a worse experience because they are competing, not just in pvp, against people who have made purchases. At worst it creates an eco-system where players are manipulated into paying money they can't really afford by the constructed gameplay loop that all but requires them to pay to make progress. Either way it's monetized in a way that disregards the user experience, the players, it's dishonest for any server like that to pretend like it matters to them how good it is for the pockets it picks.
There is such a thing as a good balance and you seem to have a childish mindset if you don't understand that. Servers are expensive. Where else is that money supposed to come from? You HAVE to sell things to some degree, otherwise the server will die. I don't support P2W, but your view is unrealistic.
What I see from this is that the server ironically grew in size, thanks to the fact that you were inadvertently promoting it on your end. When something is said to be really awful, people will want to try it out themselves. This also leads to them becoming hooked on the server. So basically, you kinda took the liberty to attract players for them at no cost, except for providing a minor speed bump in the economy.
It sucks seeing a lot of the OG videos, and then going and doing almost the exact same thing to servers that I wanted to make changes, and seeing that at the end of the day it didn't matter or change much :/
lol I just realized I used to play your server originally after being the first server I kind of chose at random when I first downloaded tlauncher... Pretty funny and crazy to see just how much it changed.

i was a melon smp player and i want to say a couple of things about the server: 1. the old management was the one who ruined the server put in its p2w state 2. the old owner did a complete reset to the server and killed half of its player count than the old owner sold the server 3. the server is shutting down (sadly)
I like that you have respect for the P2W aspect that almost every server has, i think there's a super fine line between exploitation type P2W and P2W so you can continue to run the server. I don't think the average person knows how much it costs to upkeep a server, especially if its a larger one.
The only way to impact something like this majorly is to hit the wallet or with the law. If you found the owner's local authorities, you could make claims of them encouraging underage gambling or running an online gambling system targeting underage groups. If I were to run a server with a P2W or buyable aesthetics system, I'd put a plethora of signs and notices that only players 18 years or above can gamble or buy these systems, with obligatory links to Be Gamble Aware, rules where you may be banned if you're discovered to be underage, and an age verification system for the website if possible. I'd make a priority of tackling underage gambling.
Upload another video on how much servers earn, but also try to give an estimate on how much they must invest, and how many costs they have to keep it running please.
@@TheMisterEpic It's true that obtaining precise figures on server earnings and costs can be challenging, especially without the cooperation of server owners lol. I didn't really think this through before commenting, but I wouldn't mind a part 2 of you having a look at how much certain Minecraft servers earned monthly. I am sure many people would be interested in even more server data similar to this. It doesn't necessarily have to be about how much they earn, etc. It could also be about player involvement, server tips, how to advertise (not in an extreme way, such as purple prison ofcourse lmao), server performance, and more... Out of curiosity, is there a way to add crates to a server, but make the keys 100% earnable, and not paid for? Maybe even a craftable item with rare items you can get through actual play. I want to do a small very modded minecraft server mostly for members of the discord for a species I own and a few friends, and crates look like they could be a ton of fun, if they are earnable through game-play. I don't wanna make money with a server, but I do want to have a lot of fun with friends with a server and add lots of fun goals to work towards. One of the ideas that I had was maybe find a way to tie the Identity mod in with a crate you earn, and that could be a way to earn new forms as you find keys in the world. There's a mod that can refresh loot in chests, and I might see if there's a way to randomly hide chests throughout the world (Refreshing) so that there's always more to do... though I need a coder for that and that's hard to find. xD (Also considering Origins as well with lots of different origins to play as) I don't want it to even really be a public server, just a small server for a bunch of buddies with a few fun functions.

MisterEpic great banger video once more and btw the youtuber SB737 has a minecraft server that has crates, kits and more just telling you if you want to make a video about that
I think the problem is that these dupes aimed to cause destruction within around a week or two at best and were done by outsiders who had zero trust within the community. Sure, you destroy the in-game economy until the admins do a rollback, but you haven't damaged the community's trust in any way which is what actually keeps the server alive; in fact, you only strengthened it because those who survived can say the successfully repelled the 'invaders'. A better way to damage P2W servers with a dupe is to slowly build trust within the community and then get big names in on the dupe while keeping it on the down low. Then, when you have enough of the big names participating in your duping scheme, leak the names of those in on the dupe and get them all banned from the server or cause a huge drama storm. It would take possibly years to do, but the damage to the server's community would be irreparable.

I love how you always upload at midnight for me
I think gambling with crates on servers is fine as long as the only way you can get the ‘keys’ is by completing in game quests, or doing stuff in game without spending any real money
p2w server videos are always fun to watch
Minecraft when servers have guns: we will ban you.
Minecraft when servers are p2w: nothing ro see here.
It is sad to see that minecraft is focussing more on unneccesairy things than preventing people from being scammed.

My theory is that they're getting a kickback, like those P2W Bedrock servers they promote.
Now imagine the kind of damage people could do to these servers if something like Bedrock exploits were capable of occurring in java (ya know the minecart + command block thing) I don't think it'd be as simple as a roll-back to fix someone deciding to nuke a server w/ something like that.
Why shouldn't a rollback be possible)
How do I do this
Snapcraft isn't bad these days.
I wonder if doing this consistently could cause some actual damage, yet that would be very time consuming
The problem is finding dupes
@@moofurg I didn’t think about that, cus every time you would need a new type and it would take dozens of dupes to cause harm
almost every server does backups every few hours, you cant do actual damage unless you get on a dupe for hours all over again after they roll back to the old save
@@Ozryl I mean good point. They’re content creators.
I feel like lagging out a server is much better, less of a hassle then dupes, just as much panic from the more trying to figure out what the heck just happens to their server
I remember the good ol days when you would spend diamonds on some redstone/command block machine to gamble. God I miss those days
TheMisterEpic uploading again right before I'm going to sleep
Even if you're not gonna defeat the problem, the best we can do for anyone is make them aware of it. So I support the honest ambition.
9:05 Video clip from Team AVO on ChaosCraft. Good vid!
i was wondering why a little bit ago why a server i had played on had changed so drastically... (for the better) the community of the server patched the holes of the p2w nature before that. they were nice.
sounds like time for round 2/3 for some of these!
yup
“Well known smp” I have never head of this outside of your channel
See how long they can ignore it when it starts getting spammed at them
Was actually cool having you guys dupe on fantasy🤣
I dont think theres any excuse for pay to win mechanics. They could easily go down the wynncraft route and make their loot boxes only contain cosmetic items, but that actually takes effort
nice work epic, cant wait to see what you do next in the duping series ;D
*when you get banned on 10 accounts due to an IP/Constant ban*

I don't exactly condone p2w servers but still think they should have the freedom to monetize however they like (besides stuff like gambling, if the server is meant for kids)
i wonder if the new eula enforcement will burn these ptw servers
new?
Atleast here in Germany we already have that for years
Hi I love your videos I watch every new video you upload and im subbed. keep up with the good videos.
1:34 OMG THE BROTHER OF DOGSTEVE, DOGSTOVE!!!!
Doing damage to servers-> dupe, wait a week, distribute through accounts, wait a month, everyweek distrubute some throughout the server
Unlikely to work, once you have been caught once, your dupe stash and duped items are as good as gone
Mojang when P2W servers: I sleep
Mojang when pixelated guns: real shit
Well you say you can’t do long term damage, I say there’s always a way (a legal way) just takes some thinking a hard work, I don’t think there’s a P2W server out there that you can’t crash, keep up the good work.
Finally got to see a video right after it's upload
Oh no its a filler episode 😭
"selling entitlements that affect gameplay provided they dont ruin other players experience or give competitive advantage". isnt this literally the definition of "no pay to win"?
The main issue is this:
1: Kids are gullible, and parents aren’t giving a damn on what their kid is doing, and giving the kid their credit card.
2: Money makes the world go round
3: No one cares as long as they get money.
I don't even play Minecraft. I haven't played for 8 years. But man, I love watching you stick it to those P2W server owning SOBs
I can assure you that my videos do not contribute in the slightest to any server growth beyond a minimal spike the day or 2 after I upload it
@@TheMisterEpic Not accusing you of anything! I still find it interesting that the servers grew in size after a brief economy nuke. Take care :)
Melon smp is actually shutting down next weekend, so somewhat there was an impact 😂
i wish all the servers that are p2w just shut down or thier player base just leaves them
“Learn what p2w is and stop ruining kids fun” got me laughing hard 😂
It sucks seeing a lot of the OG videos, and then going and doing almost the exact same thing to servers that I wanted to make changes, and seeing that at the end of the day it didn't matter or change much :/
lol I just realized I used to play your server originally after being the first server I kind of chose at random when I first downloaded tlauncher... Pretty funny and crazy to see just how much it changed.
You can't play it on TLauncher. What's funny and crazy is that you'd lie about something that simple lol
@@Ozryl I'm not... I used to play using Tlauncher and that was the only server I had in my list from when I played back then. Maybe they don't let people using tlauncher connect anymore, but they definitely did at one point
@@damegataco TLauncher is cracked, the server isn't... how would you have joined?

Hundreds of people comment this thinking they're geniuses. In reality, they're being stupid.
They're content creators. The main purpose is to create content. Is it fun to watch them slowly give people items over the course of months? No, of course not.
i was a melon smp player and i want to say a couple of things about the server:
1. the old management was the one who ruined the server put in its p2w state
2. the old owner did a complete reset to the server and killed half of its player count than the old owner sold the server
3. the server is shutting down (sadly)
That 3. is a good thing. It's gonna save some parents credit cards.
the amount of money spent on the server shop includes vouchers that players can win by being topvoter for example, you have to take that into account
I'd make a priority of tackling underage gambling.
well you gave them free advertising
Upload another video on how much servers earn, but also try to give an estimate on how much they must invest, and how many costs they have to keep it running please.
That's kind of impossible, the only way I could find that out is by asking the server owners, who won't tell me
@@TheMisterEpic It's true that obtaining precise figures on server earnings and costs can be challenging, especially without the cooperation of server owners lol. I don't mind you uploading whatever you want though
You have more subs now than the population of Wyoming.
Mojang literally can't make P2W against their TOS because their own Bedrock Edition servers are P2W, at least last time I played they were.
Purple Prison has a channel that shows up first when you look up things like “lava rising server ip” the videos are titled “lava rising minecraft server ip” and the ip is literally just purple prison.

Real love to grind-to-win servers that have coins in game you can get from gringing for creates and other stuff
There's a mod that can refresh loot in chests, and I might see if there's a way to randomly hide chests throughout the world (Refreshing) so that there's always more to do... though I need a coder for that and that's hard to find. xD
(Also considering Origins as well with lots of different origins to play as)
I don't want it to even really be a public server, just a small server for a bunch of buddies with a few fun functions.
Why wouldn't it be possible? I do not understand what you're asking lmao
Mista White just needed to open a Minecraft Pay2win server. None of that car wash stuff.
Lets be honesf. You could so tons of more danage with a long term plan and less important items been duped. Thats how setverd decide to have a "new season"

Unfortunately the only way they are going to change is if they're forced to, should Microsoft get off their butts and actually clean up the server community properly and not, you know, have a for profit mindset.
So you gonna do Activision next since there lobby’s get easier on cod with the purchase of packs?
If I'm being honest, p2w crates are fine as long as u can get those keys without paying

MisterEpic great banger video once more and btw the youtuber SB737 has a minecraft server that has crates, kits and more just telling you if you want to make a video about that
I remember when purple prison first opened I made a server review on it in like 2013
ruclips.net/video/6e-RHjpWz3I/видео.htmlfeature=shared 9 years ago I made this oh lord 😂
It would take possibly years to do, but the damage to the server's community would be irreparable.
u would spend years to do that? 😂😂😂
