That was why many, many, many, years ago MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving was formed)
Because under the laws at that time, a drunk would get off of multiple DUI's that could or had caused deaths and permanent injuries.
It was just excused as being drunk meant you weren't responsible for your actions.
      Almost the same as insanity.

Not back to back. I have no sympathy for this guy at all. Not with his track record. He deserves everything he has coming to him.

I wish we were as strict on driving under the influence as Germany is. There is zero tolerance for anyone under 21, or a person who has their license for less than 2 years. Levels are as follows. Professional drivers BAC is .03% or higher, in conjunction with another traffic offense or accident, .05% otherwise. For cyclists it is .16%, with the same penalties as other vehicles.
Penalties start at 500 Euro and 1 month suspension, and all fines are based on your disposable income. Anyone over .11% Min 500 Euro, and up, based on your disposable income. You will then have your license revoked for 6 months. After that time you do not automatically get it back, but have to reapply and retest. In certain areas you must not only reapply, but get permission to get a new license. That permission comes if you pass a Medical Psychological Assessment.
For a second offense, or more, the penalties double, triple, or higher. One of those penalties is to never again be allowed to get another license.
They are a lot more serious over there about DUI than we are. They can do this because of their public transportation system, and the fact that many people live near their work. As a smaller country, it is far easier to get around without a license, but to me that should not matter. It is your own choice to get behind the wheel.
Sorry I am teaching, but this subject gets to me.

I sincerely miss Judge Bryant. I know there was a group of commenters that were particularly hsrd on Judge Bryant's style. These defendants are nit in front of her court for courageous acts of charity and kindness. Her version of "tough love" is what some need. She does put me in mind of Judge Stevens and Judge Boyd in Texas, she just has a different delivery and voice inflection because of the area in which she is elected. It takes real compassion to get that deep into a DUI case. She could have signed and moved but she did not. Her reasoning was correct, moral, and appropriate. If there was any doubt, he was essentially standing in front of the Judge and just 2alked out of the courtroom mid sentence

17 years since his last DUI (2005, 2022)? That seems like a really long time between to have such a rant by the judge.

The time between doesn't matter. This fuck head keeps drinking an driving and not being held accountable.
And when he turns someones kid into a speed bump, nobody is going to give a shit that there was a 10 year gap between his drinking and driving exploits. All they are going to say is, why does this guy keep getting let out of jail when he keeps drinking ans driving and getting caught.

Bryant's rant is a desperate attempt to bait the Defense into interrupting her. It's shameful.
