What an incredible voice Robert Powell has. I wish as an actor, I could speak like that!

Absolutely marvellous voice, too bad such a voice is associated with elitism now.

Because nobody ever played a role better than he did Jesus! For me when I think of Jesus Robert’s face is there.

The 78 version is the closest to the book but all 3 fail to include the workman mending the road who played a good part in the book also no female was ever in jb's original tail

Since I had only seen him in 'Jesus of Nazareth', playing Jesus, was shocking to see him in '39 Steps', smoking and drinking!

LOL!!! Me, too! I'd seen the '35 & '59 versions before I this one -- I reallllllllly like this one! -- and just watched the 2008 version last night. This is such a good story, it's destined to be done AGAIN.

The 1959 version was actually closest to the original story. Not that it makes much difference On Screen... at least So Hitchcock believed...

But Do watch the '59 version. It is much like the Hitchcock version in most parts. Hitchcock was So enthralled with the visuals that he left the Real story behind. It didn't make a bit of difference to the viewer - a mystery is a mystery. And the "MacGuffin" (as Hitchcock put it) didn't really make much difference. It was always the Visuals to Hitchcock and Damn the Story... But the 1959 version was the closest, most accurate writing and production to the original. It is also much more of a story than Hitchcock's. Watch the '59 version for yourself and you will see.

I have a question! In which movie or TV event Mr. Powell did a very impressive performance where he played being a detective that helped a woman running a gas station nearby a road . Woman has a young daughter often playing around the gas station . Now at that time a child abuser had already raped a few young victims so the situation was critical and the detective used the child to catch the child offender! Very thrilling story well played! (woman had dark long curly hair very attractive)
One thing I can remember exactly - the child was offered by the raper some sweeties in form of snake-like objects!
I saw this film a few time here in germany maybe late 80ties/early 90ties but did not found any the exact title of this screen novel!
Please help to locate this specific item , thanks in advance!
Sorry for my limited english , yes I am german and live nearby hannover town .
Would make me happy to see this film again in full length!
