This is how you want your music served up. Raw and real. Boss.

I remember seeing this video in late 77 or early 78 on TV. It was nice to see it again after so many years!

It's probably too late to influence your purchase but for anyone else reading this Foxton only used a Ricky for live performances. He used a Fender Precision for recording.

Students of mine that are studying music recently brought forth an interesting theory in our classroom: was The Jam the first great mod revival band of the late 1970's, or was it, in fact, the last of the first wave of mod British bands dating back to the mid 1960's? Interesting argument.

I've wondered about that same question; The Jam were sorta stuck between the Who/Kinks sound of the 60's/70's and the later Punk/New Wave era of the 80's. They never really fit in, which, to me, makes them even more cooler.

I'm outsider of the whole subculture of bands of that era. Besides wearing suits, they were pretty much punk. It's the same issue with New Wave bands. Is Blonde and Talking Heads really new wave? They performed next to the Ramones at CBGbs. Shouldn't they be consider authentically punk. My Sharona by the Knack is considered new wave but they wore suits but I guess you have to be British. Then it goes down with Ska bands like Madness and the English Beat shouldn't they be second wave mods, like The Who and the Kinks or should they be considered second wave ska? They hardly sound anything like Desmond Dekker and Reggae is the real leap forward after ska. Is the culture club reggae?

While they obviously had many influences, they weren't punk, new wave or mod revival, just a great rock and roll band that appealed to young people at that time. Stop tying to put art in boxes.
