Jeff Bridges has done a lot of good work in the last 10-12 yrs. I am very impressed - loved the movie. John Goodman, I have always loved his movies. John is a very good actor , O brother, where art thou ! John goodman stole the show - lol !
I’m probably looking too deeply into this. But the dude obviously avoids everyday problems and takes it easy, even when the barman brings up Donnie’s passing. He talks about it very briefly and purposefully turns his attention towards Sam Elliott. Even when someone dies, he’s still taking it easy
i saw another vid of this scene with subtitles, and they wrote 'bear' not bar....?? the bear eats you... makes more sense, but doesn't sound much like bear... ruclips.net/video/CaBBxSLZEic/видео.html
For those who haven't read the book, "The dude and the zen master" its written by Jeff Bridges (the dude) and Bernie Glassman (Zen Master), highly recommended. It really ties the room together, dude.
Can’t believe how popular and great this movie became. I never would’ve thought that first time I saw it so long ago. Then after second third time I couldn’t stop watching it.
first time i slept off..lotsa ins and outs following the story....then it became a ritual to watch it for a few minutes every day to keep the mind limber . the dude abides.
Although everyone in the film was great, Jeff Bridges is an American Treasure. Watching him in so many films throughout my life (over 5 decades), I feel like he is a member of my very small family. Thanks for always being there Jeff!
I'm sure that everyone here knows the story of how the Coens made Sam do this scene over and over simply because they loved Sam's monologue and just wanted to hear it again and again. What a great film! I highly recommend that you all watch "The Big Sleep" with Bogart and Bacall. Hell, you all know that.
Had to come back because in this morning’s sermon my Preacher read some verses where it says “abide faith, hope, and love” and with his accent I couldn’t get “Faith Abides” out of my mind 🤣
Watch the movie for the third time or so and you’ll see that during most of the movie, the Dude is pissed off, annoyed, anything but abiding. It’s one of the Coen twists that make these movies so watchable.
I'd like to think the Dude did get paid once all this was over. I mean Maude, despite her eccentric nature did seem to really like him. And in the end, she did technically promise him 100k. I mean after everything he did for her and everything that did in fact happen, I like to think she liked him enough to keep that part of her word. But that's just like.... my opinion, man.
and the dude would just slowly use that 100 grand just let it sit in the bank barely using any of it... except for a new rug ofcourse, that old one really tied the room together man!
I think Maude knew in her heart there needed to be another dude. Isn’t that the most honorable thing a woman can do is give her man a son to keep the legacy alive.
Blue Flame, Your comment is written in the same pentameter that Sam uses here in the ending narration. I would sound good along with the Dude abides, I'm going to insert it during my Sam Elliot voice over Demo, If you Don't mind. Credit is all yours..
The blessing of a weird old cowboy to the laziest man alive. A weird blessing that I received. A millennial slacker who impressed a Montana rancher by getting $300 from poker. The rancher was pissed, but he did envy my lazy lifestyle and good luck at the cards. I hope he found his retirement. And I hope to play another round of dealer's choice with him in the hereafter.
I have watched this scene dozens of times and not one time did I ever feel bored. Hats off to the actors, director and scriptwriter. The Big Lebowski is by far one of the best comedy movies I have ever watched.
Probably the most profound scene in the movie. For he who doesn't shoot at all, doesn't miss the target before him. The root of the word "sin" is "to miss". It was originally an archery term.
The three Great male voices of cinema, (not in any particular order.) James Earl Jones. Morgan Freeman. Sam Elliott. Honorable mention to Harrison Ford. (I love his smooth talking voice.)
You know. All the stress in life that we endure - seems too much to me. It’s good to know there the Dude that takes her all easy for all us sinners. If not for such people the amount of stress would be too overwhelming for the Earth
Sam Elliot didn't have much screen time in this film... but that's what makes his role in this movie memorable... he is just normal, every day, smooth-talking cowboy
It's good knowing he's out there. The dude.. Takin her easy for all us sinners
I know I take comfort in that. Helps me sleep...
Me too
Well... the dude abides, man
It’s takin’ ‘er easy. What? You ain’t never been to Texas er nothin’? Damn Yankee.
@@malvolio01 well that’s like your opinion man
The Dude is the only person who talks of himself in the third person without it being creepy or annoying. In fact, it's endearing.
If he talked about himself in the 1st person, I'd be creeped out and annoyed.
Remus was first. Remus read the Volstead Act.
I do it often and when questioned, I show them my Dudist Priest ordination card
Sam Elliott is a national treasure.
You got that right!
Lebowski, Road House, Tombstone....
All not the same film without his ... whatever it is... quan is probably the closest word.
He has one of the best voices in Cinema... Maybe 2nd only to Morgan Freeman.
Fuck yeah
He will always be the other Ron for me.

All one take. That guy in the back had to make two perfect strikes while these legendary actors performed that amazing dialogue

Over the line!
in an interview with the cast, they said that the guy in the back is a master bowler and was the one that taught the actors how to bowl properly.
“You know, strikes and gutters, ups and downs”
brilliant.
I'm gonna start saying that now
This closing monologue really ties the movie together, am I wrong?
Fucking A!
Yeah, but, HA!
All The Dude ever wanted was his rug back.
Kinda sounds like you're out of your element
Has the whole world gone CRAZY?
There's something magical about this scene that makes me smile every time I watch it.
THE DUDE ABIDES
Yes its symbolic language talks about life, purpose, afterlife, hope, congruence. It touches every heart still open.
One continuous shot all the way thru the end including the strike rolled. The entire movie was filmed like theatre. Brilliant and hilarious.
Yeah I hear you. Dont know why but it does.
The whole film has me feeling warm inside.
All the Dude ever wanted was his rug back.
Well, it did put the whole room together
It’s “ it really tied the room together.”
"and this guy peed on it"
“Donnie, please”....(lights a smoke)
Misha Stone there’s a lot of strands there. In old duders head.
He has the coolest voice.
Julia Ryan he sure does.
I've seen this movie countless times and I just noticed the Dude is wearing a black arm band for Donnie. Notice something new every time I watch it.
Jeff Bridges should have won best actor for this movie.
And John Goodman should've won best supporting
1 AlaskanAssassin Amen
It's one of my favourite performances. I think it's one of the greatest performances. This movie is just not oscar bait.
He should have won 'Best Actor' for Fearless(1993).

apparently it was great for editing, dubbing and continuity
It takes four hundred years to grow one like that.
You always say that but will you take care of it? Clean up after it and take it for walks every day?
You can't see your lips move when you talk, anyway.
Dead Flowers is a perfect song choice for this scene. Just the feel of the song.
I started listening to good country after this movie.
Yea the one stones song everybody forgets about.

Sam Elliot really knows how to keep you locked in right man?
When he says “catch ya later on down the trail” as he runs his finger along the brim of his hat and winks is probably my favorite part of this scene.
